This rating is based purely on the interactions I had with staff during my most recent visit, it has nothing to do with the quality of items or any such thing. My family and I shopped here frequently before the pandemic, but not quite as often lately. Always happy with everything we buy, and love the assortment of unique items that you just wouldn't find anywhere else. My in-laws even make it a point to shop there as well every time they visit from out of state. What I'm getting at is that we're fans. That being said, my most recent trip on March 19, 2022 was not the usual pleasant experience for two reasons. The first reason being the male staff member who stood by the frozen foods and cooed loudly and repeatedly like a dove. I am not sure whether this was done intentionally to make people feel uncomfortable or if it is a tic or habit, but regardless it made me want to get away from him and stay away. Which is unfortunate because this store gets flavors of Jeni's Ice Cream that nowhere else local gets, and I love them. The second reason was the female staff member who followed my son and me around the store, watching and standing closely by us while we shopped. I know thieves come in all shapes and sizes and physical descriptions, but honey, I am not one and neither is my son. So whatever her concerns were I can assure you she was entirely misguided and I was entirely offended. Also, if you're going to trail suspected shoplifters, maybe don't be so obvious about it. Just a little tip. (I just want to say, I know it sounds very much like a guilty person overreacting and being all outraged, but for what it's worth to strangers on the internet I can say with complete confidence that there is not even the slightest chance I would need to shoplift from a gourmet food store, and also that I didn't misinterpret what this female staff member was doing. It was VERY apparent, to an embarrassing degree.) Despite making the trip to the store to put together a couple food baskets for Easter, we ended up cutting our trip short and purchased just a few pieces of glassware and got out of there. Again, fabulous store, but staff need an update on how to treat customers and behave in a public setting. read more

Solid 4 stars...4.5 if I had that option. If they had a little bit better pricing than I would be in the 5 star range, but they do have great prices on their sale items. They have great gourmet food options (beer, cheese, olive oil, mustard, etc.) and friendly cheese mongers. This is a fun excursion for a casual Saturday. Casual Saturday plan: 1. Go to Premier Liquor. 2. Shop around there. 3. Sample around there. 4. Catch a winemind class if possible. 5. Try not to purchase the whole store. 6. Walk into Premier Gourmet. 7. Sample some more (this time food instead of drink). 8. Pick out some beer, gourmet cheese, olive oil, etc. 9. Peruse kitchen tools section. 10. Leave store inspired to eat (and cook). read more

Beer.....is why this place deserves 5 stars. Consumers Beverages would like to think it has a lot of beers. The Village Beer Merchant would like to think it has a lot of beers. Holy cow...this place is the mecca of beer in Buffalo. If you're looking for a new and exciting beer, this is the place to go. Buy it by the bottle or 6-pack. Their beer selection is in the HUNDREDS and sorted by country of origin. You can buy a bottle here for years and never drink the same one. I used to like going to Toys'R'Us....Now I like going to Premier Gourmet. To all the girlfriends and wives out there, this place is a must for a birthday or holiday gift. Between the food, the coffee, and the BEST beer selection in Buffalo, this place just does it for me. On top of bottles, their state of the art growler system that is worth some heavy money, always has great beers on tap, and at a very reasonable price. They offer variety for the deepest of beer drinkers, to those just getting into the craft movement. The staff is knowledgeable, and passionate about what they do in the beer section. Went to the new location over the weekend and have to say its pretty nice inside. I mean it basically seemed like the same great store except with a bit more modern look. One thing I am a fan of though is their new ability to fill growlers. They bought some crazy fancy taps that are unlike any other growler fillers I have seen. They put the growler itself in some crazy glass tube, shoot it with CO2 for freshness and then it doesn't over pour with foam either. No rubber tubes getting stuck inside your growler is supposed to help sanitation as well. All in all a great addition to an already great store. read more

A wine warehouse on one side, a gourmet "grocery" on the other. The wine selection is outstanding. Where else in Buffalo can you purchase 7-8 varieties of prosecco and at least 20-30 other sparklers? Next door is the gourmet grocery and kitchen supplies. Imported olive oils, pastas, small batch vinegars. Amazing selection of cheeses and importated meats. Microbrews. Attention chefs, foodies, gourmands, wine connoisseurs, beer enthusiasts, Giada wannabes, and prospective party-hosters: This is the place for you! I'm really only one of these things (beer enthusiast), but I will often go to Premier/Premier Gourmet after I finish Dim Sum at Peking Garden down and across the street. [Have any other Yelpers been to or reviewed Peking Garden besides me? I think it's the only local Dim Sum option in this region.] Permier Gourmet has a very good bottled beer selection. It's basically the same as what's available at the Village Beer Merchant on Elmwood, but PG lacks the growler-filling draft option. They DO list all of their beers (complete with up to the minute availability) on their website, which is a very nice feature. And their display of beers is a bit more organized (by country and region) than VBM. I also come here to buy the hard to find Underberg herbal bitters shots that I can no longer get at Tops or Wegmans. They even have some whimsical local artwork for sale. I've looked at some of their exotic foodstuffs, and it truly is an impressive selection. They have everything you'd need to throw a really kick-ass party in your home. Although, looking at the people who tend to shop here, perhaps I should translate "throwing a really kick-ass party in your home" into pretentious HGTV lingo and call it: "entertaining" in your "fabulous space." Incidentally, I sometimes watch HGTV too, but only to revel in the retired California gay couple's (not that there's anything wrong with that) reaction when they're appalled that their 900 square foot, tastefully decorated home isn't worth the $2.5 Mil they actually thought it would be. I am reviewing strictly for the beer section of the store. However! Premier Gourmet, which is attached to Premier Wine and Spirits, carries Beer, gourmet food and cooking accessories, cheese, chocolates, and other snacks. They have a large growler fill selection and one of the best selections of microbrews in the area. The thing that sets them apart from both Wegmans and Consumers (both of whom also have excellent microbrew selections) is the ability to purchase single bottles. Now, it isn't always cost effective to do so, but it is an excellent option if you're looking for a specific beer to try. The growler fill area is very nice and the staff have always been helpful to me. I have a Miir hiking growler that is a slightly unusual shape compared to other growlers, but it fits in their fill station and they've been good sports about getting it working. They have a point system for buying growlers, which is very nice. And, like I said, they have an awesome selection of local microbrews, and others, spanning most of the United States, a little bit of Canada, and quite a few other international locations. Their staff is knowledgeable about beer as well, so if you need recommendations they are definitely able to help. read more

Even though I was sad when Premier bid farewell to Kenmore, the expansion of the gourmet foods store into the behemoth that is Premier Gourmet more than eased the parting trauma. I could literally spend HOURS walking around this store! The craft beer selection (both bottled and on tap) is easily the best in the Buffalo-Niagara area. Plus, they break down four/six packs into fairly-priced singles, so you can grab a few different beers to try without over-committing. The cheese section is fairly expansive, with a good representation across the board (cheese board?) of various countries and varieties. I haven't had a chance to peruse the bakery selections extensively, but if smell is any indicator, it's pretty awesome, as well. Plus they have high-end cookware, cutlery, and glassware, as well as a great selection of spices, local dips, marinades, and sauces, and just about any locally-made delicious ice cream brand that you can think of., including my personal favorite, Lake Effect. I'm just starting to experiment with coffee brewing, so I'm thankful for the great bean selection they have here. Even though I grind my own beans at home, there are two on-site burr grinders if needed. I'm not sure how representative their selection is, but they have at least two dozen varieties with helpful, detailed profiles accompanying each. It's absolutely obvious that the ownership team of Premier has a passion and level of expertise in the culinary realm that is unrivaled in Western New York. Knowing that your cash is being used to bolster this sector in the area makes the steep prices (which obviously go hand in hand with high-quality products) a lot easier to swallow. read more

Having visited Premier Gourmet a couple of times over the holidays, I will say it's a place you'll want to visit. The wine/liquor store is separated from the food/merchandise portion, which I like, since I'm seldom on a mission for both. One of the reasons I visit is to find some hometown non-perishable goodness to send to friends living out of the area. DiCamillo Bakery, Watsons chocolates, Fowlers, the chicken wing sauces and mustards are all available. Plus there are some specialty ethnic food items that might ring your bell. I was gobsmacked to find Hatch chili peppers from Albuquerque in the Mexican canned section. Oh yeah!!! Fiesta happy dance. There are also Guittard super chocolate cookie chips from San Francisco. THE hands down best for cookies. There are many Red Mill brand items available if you don't live near a Dashs Market. The glitch is the higher than the competition prices. It's best to know what things cost before shopping here. The jar of Fluff costs double what I am accustomed to paying. (Pipe down, it's a guilty pleasure, fluffernutters.) There are plenty of artisan beers available. And lots of housewares, gadgets, cookie cutters, and Buffalo-abelia. Clothing and towels and glassware, oh my. This gourmet store is large, and it has a lot of great stuff. I really like the variety of options, and the fact that they are all in one place. From cheeses to oils to jams. I don't have to go to five different stores to get what I want. Then there's the beer selection, a wonderful collection of beers from all over the world, and also many micro brews. You can also get a growler! All in all this is a great place to visit to stock up on the specialty items any adventurous cook wants. If I lived closer to Buffalo, I would be visiting this place very often, but alas, it's a long drive away from me. read more

World Premier! I cant say enough about Premier Gourmet. I never knew there was so many different things you could drink! And the kitchen gadgets! And the chocolate! They even have goose-liver plates! Whoever heard of that? My only complint is that part of the store smells a little like fish mixed with coffee. They didn't actually mix fish with coffee, did they? I hope not. This is a great store with a lot of things you can't find elsewhere. It can be a little overpriced at times, and I've gone home with a wedge of cheese that has gotten moldy much too soon after purchase (I'm guessing these 2 are related) so that's why I've subtracted a star. But if you're entertaining and want to impress, this is your place! Always happy with the beer selections - husband drinks Belgian tripels and I drink dry ciders, so we don't have a ton of store options anyways and Premier Gourmet always delivers! They always have a good selection of growler fills too. A great place to find a gift for your foodie friend, or a coffee-lover. They have great oils & vinegars, too, but if you're really a junkie for those you'd do better at d'avolio / prima oliva or a similar establishment. read more

I came to Buffalo from Toronto just to pick up some good craft beer. This is the place to come. The selection is deep and varied and there's a ton of things we never see in Canada. I bought a bunch to drink and a bunch to cellar and if there weren't limits on how much I could bring home, I'd have spent triple or quadruple what I did. Amazing! I was here getting American craft beer to bring home, but for the locals, it would be nice to see a bigger International selection. read more

OK, so I just have to start with a clarification that confused me. There are two Premier businesses adjoining each other because of a weird NY state law that doesn't permit the selling of beer and wine in the same store (stupid, eh?) Premier Gourmet sells beer and other kitchen specialties. I was here for the BEER. Their selection is generally quite good. Fairly well-organized by country or state. Nothing too rare, but solid and broad. Prices are somewhat expensive for the states...maybe it's because they get so much demand from visitors from Canada like me. They have a growler filling station which stocks some great beers on tap. I wish I could have taken advantage of that. The SERVICE was a bit meh. The guy manning the beer area was none too interested in getting up from his desk to help me out or to engage me in conversation. If there were other competing shops nearby, they might have to up their game on this front. OVERALL, I was glad to buy some interesting beer and will probably be back. read more

When I want to try something different in the kitchen or find an unusual kitchen gadget, I head for premier, next to my favorite liquor store by the same name. This store is great for a nice deli lunch or picking up a few extra nice or foreign things for a meal or snack. Imports from all over the world, cheese, sausages, teas, jams, sauces, mixes as well as a huge selection of foods that only need to be warmed up or a chocolate mouse or cheesecake for after dinner. Teapots, pots and pans of extraordinary quality, gifts, candies from everywhere, I could go on all day and usually spend a good forty-five minutes shopping and just looking. Customer service is very good, although I miss the lovely gent from Leeds, England who taught me so much of British cheese history I never knew! Things in freezers, imported beers and, like I said, a liquor store to get lost in it is so big, next door. When you are not sure what you want, this is a great place for ideas and the deli will let you sample a few things if you want to. During Holidays give yourself some extra time as this place gets packed and and actually has people directing traffic in the parking lot so everyone moves along in an orderly fashion. read more

This is the most complete gourmet shop in Buffalo. It is attached to the Premier Liquor complex on Delaware Avenue, just south of Sheridan Drive. Here you can find all sorts of useful kitchen/food items. There is a section where you can buy pots and pans from gourmet brands like All Clad, Le Creuset, et cetera. You can buy kitchen knives (Wusthof, Henckels, Shun), Viking and KitchenAid mixers. You get the idea - high end kitchen tools and appliances. They have a fairly good selection of these items. I don't buy it often, because I mainly go here for beer, but there is a middle area where you can find fresh food items - meats, seafood, and cheese. There is a wide enough variety to satisfy all but the most obnoxious snobs. You can also buy various types of sausage here, wrapped and ready to go, and the stock changes frequently. Check out the sweets! They have a bakery where you can get some seriously awesome stuff. Adjacent to that area is where you can find your single origin organic coffees. I should also mention the gourmet food items section they have where you can find more or less whatever ketchup, mustard, honey, barbecue sauce, hot sauce you would ever want. Tons of gourmet condiments. They have dried fruits, mushrooms and nuts. You can also find food dyes, sprinkles, almond extract, and other baking type items as well. The part that's my FAVORITE is the beer shop. I honestly believe in terms of the selection there is no better store in Buffalo. I don't know of another place that carries Cantillon as frequently as they do. They have a wonderful selection of traditional Belgian beer and American craft beer in particular. I do have to say though that they have a pretty good selection of German beer as well (no Augustiner though). They have lesser numbers of UK, Italian and Asian beers. Why would I give this fantastic store only four stars? Well, it's a great store, but you get charged through the nose, no BS. I used to bristle seeing beer I knew I could drive 10 minutes away and find a lot cheaper. I'm betting it's the same way for the gourmet items but I don't go to enough gourmet shops to have a solid point of reference. So, take it or leave it, I think it's pricier than it could be. OK, we have changed our minds about Premier: We love the treats during the holiday season- especially the marzipan stollen and Cadbury chocolates from the UK. The free espresso samples are a wonderful treat. There is an impressive selection of beer here. They have a very nice cheese counter as well. However, we wish that they would provide customers with more samples. We always end up buying something new when we try a sample. We recently purchased a wonderful cheese here that was covered with espresso. We would still shy away from the desserts, but perhaps things have changed since our bad experience. I have found that Premier is a great spot for gourmet items, in particular cheeses and hot sauce. This was true before they moved from their Sheridan location and its even more true now. Plus, their beer selection is second to absolutely no one is Buffalo. I have frequently gone to Premier at their old location and now at the new Maple Road store as I love to cook/bake and can get some high end ingredients here. Also their beer selection is excellent! Everything from snacks, deli items, and coffee are featured. There is a large selection with reasonable prices. My mom is a fellow "foodie" and living in the Southern Tier, you can't get a selection like this. She loves to come here and browse all the aisles as I dutifully push the cart around following her! All of my previous purchases and interactions at Premier have been great, but the customer service my mom and I received recently has put it over the top. My mom had been wanting to buy a large proofer box for raising bread and making yogurt. This is a good $150 specialty appliance. Apparently even the manufacturer was out-of-stock online, but Premier was listed as a dealer. We stopped by in March to see if they had one. They said they had carried them, but hadn't reordered any new since moving stores. Kathy in housewares was going to the Buffalo Home Show and said she could order some more from her supplier and would have it for us. Since I live up here and could get it, she took my name and number. Kathy was even nice enough to give me a call later that week after the home show to let me know about how long it would take to get it. It was the same price as if ordering directly from company and less than other resellers. It finally came in and Kathy gave me a call. I picked it up and my mom loved it! She has been having a ball making homemade yogurt and looking forward to some artisan breads. Unfortunately last week, she noticed it was pretty hot and while the proofer was set at 108 degrees, it was overheating consistently by 20 or 30 degrees which doesn't work very well. Between them moving houses and me spring cleaning, I couldn't find the receipt if we needed an return through the manufacturer. I took the proofer with me and stopped by Premier with my info from my credit card to see if they could print me a receipt so I could maybe mail to together with it, or see if Premier wanted to process the return since it had only been 2 months. I came in and was again met by Kathy as well as another associate. I brought the proofer in with me for "proof" (haha). Kathy immediately remembered me and both of them quickly said without me even asking that they would give me a brand new proofer off the shelf and deal with the broken one so we didn't have to! Considering my mom was mourning losing this one for any amount of time if she had to mail it back, they have totally made her and my day. I was in and out of there in 5 minutes. Service like that keeps me hooked as a customer and continuing to support local businesses! read more

Great selection of wine and beer. But be careful when ordering gift baskets. I mistakenly ordered two to be sent to my friend out of town immediately called them to inform them I made a mistake. They told me it would be taken care of yet charged my credit card for both and sent them both out. I called them back again and they told me the only way they could refund my money was for my friend to send one of the gift baskets back. Very poor customer service on that end. Also was told that I would get a callback from the manager that never came extremely disappointed. read more

Fun place to kill some time and buy some niche items.

Alas, Premier Gourmet's days in this location are numbered. On May 1, the store moves to a new location on Maple Road near Niagara Falls Blvd. Long time owner, Janet Ostrow, has already departed. A big sale just prior to her departure has depleted much of the stock although notices posted throughout the store promise restocking soon. The departure is a tragedy for me. I live within walking distance of the current store. Often I visit it two or three times a week. Cheeses, beers, whole coffee beans, the deli items, the prepared food, the cooking items all in great variety conveniently located ever so nearby have been one of the joys of residing in Kenmore all these years. I won't just miss it when it's gone; its leaving will be a life style changer for me. And one other downer note: at holiday time the place (and its companion liquor store) is a zoo. Starting before Thanksgiving and lasting until New Year's Eve, the parking lot is manned by a contingent of attendants absolutely necessary to keep traffic moving. Things that are great: Beer and coffee selection. Kitchen gadgets are always fun to browse. There are some candies and snacks you won't find anywhere else. Things that are not so great: Attempting to get your newfound purchases out of the building. I've been going to Premiere back when they were in Kenmore. Since the move, the cashiers at the register are slow and their new point of sale system seems like a real pos. While they always seem to be trying, the employees have a difficult time navigating the menus of what should be a simple cash register. I've seen one screw up so bad she had to give up on someone's transaction and move to the next register over. At my last visit, the cashier stared at my id for almost a full minute trying to decide if I'm over 21. (I'm 33) To hold up the line even more, she proceeded to mark down my receipt all the places where I saved money. Thankfully, I have a full 12 pack of beer help me forget about how awful it was to purchase. read more

I had a horrible experience at Premier Gourmet in Buffalo. I came in to purchase some wine after a long day at work and my assistant was with me. They refused to sell my wine to me because my assistant didn't have his wallet. I took him home and came back alone to make my purchase however was denied service.I then drove back to bring my assistant with his id (we are both mid 30s) and they still refused to sell me a bottle of wine because his ID was 3 months expired. We gave 4 other forms of identification that weren't expired including a NY state issued EBT card and began to realize this was an issue of racism. When I requested to speak with the manager he allowed multiple cashiers to join in gang mentality bullying us to leave. I felt threatened, shamed and utterly disappointed in the entire city of Buffalo. I do not recommend shopping at this store: read more

Another underwhelming experience here today. In search of Gimme! coffee, I approached the service desk where THREE employees were available. Two of them were carrying a few small items at a time & placing them on a display table. With each return trip to the service desk, they would flick their eyes my way & studiously avoid me. (I counted 3 customers in the store: 1 in the bakery, 1 at the cashier, 1ahead of me at the service desk talking about a ball game). The manager (Joe?) was deeply Interested in said ball game. Ball game customer left. Joe turned to me and said: "Hello....um, Mary?" I let that pass and stated my need. After a LOT of dicking around, he handed me off to Matt, the coffee guy. Evidently, Gimme! coffee "didn't move", so they no longer carry it. Matt was very helpful in assisting me with my coffee needs. The star is for him. i don't plan on returning to Premier again. well, maybe once more to see if I'm mistaken for Mary (who must be one hell of a dame). This is my go to place for higher end beers, cheeses, ice cream (and other desserts), coffee, snacks and everything else under the sun. You can't forget the amazing alcohol selection on the other side of the store. That has all the spirits and wine you could imagine looking for. If you are a foodie looking to expand your experimentation in the kitchen, this is the place to go. With 20 different taps to fill growlers and probably the most extensive bottle selection of craft and import beers in the area, this is the place to grab a good beer (to go). They also have a deli and cheese shop, along with roasting their own coffee and a small grocery section with unique and gourmet foods. This place is amazing!! I've been here at least 10 times in my time living in Buffalo given it is right near my house. Their beer selection is great! I've often purchased interesting beers I've never heard of before. Their cooler is also great for picking up cold beer before a gathering. The kitchen gadgets and appliances are many. Although I've never ordered from their deli, I think I will in the future. I've ordered from the dessert counter and their freshly made lemon bars were DOPE!! The staff is fairly knowledgeable and helpful. One of their staff saw the many beers I had in my basket and showed huge interest in talking about them with me, while also recommending new beers to try. It's really an event when visiting Premier Gourmet. I could spend hours in there looking at all they have to offer. They have a small cafe where they make sandwiches and such, which I'd like to try some day. When checking out with single beers, it is a bit slow and inconvenient because the cashier is required to scan and input each beer. It seems as if their system is outdated/slow. That being said, it's the only flaw I've seen from my experience. I will 100% keep shopping here in the future and do recommend to anyone. read more

So, I love premier. My husband and I go all the time. We wait for tweets about the rare beer they get in. The reason they do not get a 5/5 and honestly should get a 0/5 in customer service is because of their beer geek Ethan. We saw premier had westbrook Gose in. We went at 515 and was told it was all sold out. Crap! Oh well, next time. However, when a good friend of ours goes in 3 hours later and gets said "sold out" beer... it's annoying. Customer Service is not something I expect anymore. Few Vendors of any products include this feature along with the worthless coupons. Lucky for me, Premier Gourmet offers great customer service along with their wonderful selection of products. Kelly, my salesperson actually walked around the store with her cell phone helping me make selections for my "Hot Chocolate Only" gift basket for my grandchildren & their parents to enjoy during :Movie Nights". I didn't want cookies, coffee or snacks in the basket, just different hot chocolate. She was absolutely fantastic! I'm sure my family will love the special basket, which by the way is going to NC. No problem for Premier or Kelly. After shopping on line all day, trying to find someone to make this basket for me, I found it in my own backyard and enjoyed doing it!
