I open my hood because they broke the latch and didn't repair it. Along with a lot of plastic material under the hood. So I was left, needing to access the engine and not being able to. I drove it to a nearby shop and they had to use pliers to open the hood. They even stated that that should have been fixed. Clearly no one since J&L has accessed the hood as they wouldn't be able to even open it! And J&L Service Center was the last one access my engine. They denied accountability. Had they owned up to it and simply fixed it I would not be so angry. I understand things happen, that are often out of our control, however, they didn't inform me that it happened and simply sent me on my way with it. Dangerous and irresponsible. J&L .. I trusted you.

I went to get my car inspected at the Autosmith the other day. Not because I heard good things…read more(just the opposite), but because I was feeling lazy and the Autosmith is close. They inspected it right away, and found that I needed new springs in the front--they said mine were broken. Their two options to fix the issue would have cost me approximately $615 (the "cheap" option) to $665. Well, folks, Tracey Phelps doesn't have $700 kickin' around, so I got a second opinion. My boyfriend, Jake, took a gander at the springs and being a car guy, noticed that the springs WEREN'T BROKEN AT ALL. The paint was peeling off, but otherwise totally fine! He then told me that the Autosmith tried to rip him off in the past and that I should head over to Bob's Auto in Essex. All in all, it cost me $65 for an oil change and inspection at Bob's Auto, as opposed to ten times that at Autosmith for work that I didn't even need. I know Autosmith is trying to expand and pay for their new stuff, but can they give their neighbors a break? I can't afford to pay for your new shop, and neither can most of us in this cruddy recession.

I was glad to see they found an issue in my front end (go figure with the wonderful roads in VT) while doing the oil change. It cost a bit more than a free oil change, but was certainly reasonable and the service was very prompt. Thank you again and I would recommend anyone to try them out for fair prices and honest quality.

It was a little longer then planned but that's because of the tool issue and finding two ball joints for my year. Either way they always have treated me right an are honest. That's the most important when having a car serviced. I'd rather know I need this an that instead of them just overlooking it for my pockets sake. I prefer safety over money anyway this is the 3 year they have worked on my cars and I recommend them to anyone who asks. I'm not saying they're perfect because it doesn't exist at any shop it's impossible so I don't care what anyone says they have always been a great company. I changed the filter myself, but went back to them, explained the situation and requested they change the oil-soaked belt belt. They could not accommodate me for several days, despite their mistake. As I drove less than a mile to another garage, the serpentine belt broke, wrapped around the shaft, got sucked through the the front seal, filled the engine with rubber, and destroyed the engine. $7,000 for a rebuild; $10,000 for a new one. I have been a client of hometown for 8 years and my folks even longer. They've always treated us so…read morewell, fair prices, short repair times, honesty and integrity; however, they just lost a decade of loyalty to one incredibly unprofessional phone call. On September 20th 2024, I brought my 2007 Honda Fit to Steve to take a look at some service lights and a funny noise. He fully diagnosed it on the spot, told me I needed to bring it back for a new transmission and new brakes and that he'd call some parts companies and get back to me with an estimate. He never contacted me again. A few nights ago, 12/2/24 my engine started billowing smoke late in the evening and I emergently had my car towed to hometown after hours, thinking that as a loyal customer they may be able to get me in. Instead, I got a phone call from Steve telling me that they have never and will never work on Honda Fits, my car is blocking the plows (there is no snow) and that I need to bring it elsewhere. I asked for a recommendation, and he told me that no one will work on a Honda fit and he won't send me to one of his friends. I brought up the diagnostics he did, and he told me that when he did it "6 months or a year ago" (actual timeline = 10 weeks) that he did indeed call me back with prices, "or maybe left a message". So in one conversation he both admitted that he did work on my car and looked into parts but that he also has never worked on my car and won't in the future. I think I asked one more question and he told me my keys were in the cup holder and hung up on me. Great business, Steve!
