I recently entrusted Premier West Gears with the installation of 5.29 gears in my 2020 Toyota Tacoma. Approximately six months after the installation, the gears failed, necessitating a second replacement. I paid them for a brand new set of REM polished gears and they took care of the labor. (Reusing my crush sleeve) The real frustration emerged when my truck broke down recently due to a missing tooth on the newly installed gears. My attempts to find a local shop willing to address the issue were met with resistance; none would allow an external company to use their facilities for inspection and repair. Desperate for a solution, I turned to Off Road Warehouse in Murrieta. Their mechanic conducted a thorough examination and discovered divots in the ring of the old crush sleeve. These marks were unmistakably the result of the sleeve being flattened with a hammer for reuse -an unacceptable practice. The consequences were severe. The gears moved incorrectly, leading to vibrations and the eventual grinding and loss of teeth. What compounds my disappointment is the response from Premier West Gears. Their representative, Carlos, suggested that I should have towed my truck over 100 miles back to their facility for inspection. They are combative and defensive over the phone and have been untruthful about returning my calls or responding to my emails. If Carlos was as responsive with customers as with Yelp I wouldn't be here spending all this time and money. Their unwillingness to stand behind their work because I sought assistance elsewhere is concerning. Had I followed their advice, I might never have discovered the reused crush sleeve. This entire experience underscores the critical importance of transparency, accountability, and ethical practices in the automotive industry. As consumers, we deserve better, and I hope my review serves as a cautionary tale for others. read more

I had my 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser geared to 4.88s at Premier West Gears in Riverside back in April 2026, and I'm very happy with the results. I arrived for my scheduled appointment at 8:00 AM and spent most of the day there along with three other vehicle owners. The staff kept us informed throughout the process and were knowledgeable about gearing options and what to expect after the installation. The 4.88 gear upgrade made a huge difference for my FJ. I'm running 315/75R16 mud tires, and the added torque brought the vehicle back to life. Acceleration feels stronger, the drivetrain feels much happier, and the overall driving experience is greatly improved both on and off-road. One thing to keep in mind: if you're running larger tires, you'll likely need a speedometer calibrator. After the re-gear, my speedometer reads about 10 mph slower than my actual speed. It is not easy to find a quality differential repair shop. Most shops that I called do not work on differentials. After getting quotes from several places, I realized the cost can be very high for this. It was more than I expected ($1,200 to $2,000) I found premier west gears and not only was the price competitive, they came to where my truck was. There were two guys in nice uniforms. I was a little worried to spend this kind of Money with a mobile service at first. After they arrived, I felt much better about it. I dealt with Carlos who explained everything to me before he started working. He also had a helper with him which made the work fly. The shops mostly estimated a whole day for this, but these guys did my job in a couple of hours. This saved me a ton of time and hassle not needing to bring my truck to a shop. I had my 2016 Toyota Tacoma SR5 4x4 brought in today to install my Nitro 5.29 Gears and the customer service was exceptional. They are one of the few shops that would do the install on a Saturday and using parts that i had already purchased. i couldn't be any happier with the service. It was quick, they had both front and rear gears installed in about 4 hours and contacted me 30 min before the truck would be ready so i could pick up the truck as soon as possible. Carlos/Miguel I was recommended to these guys by my friend Q to upgrade my gears to a 529 from the stock Toyota tundra gear ratio. With a 2500 pound camper and 37 inch tires. Was having trouble removing some parts from the differential. Decided to take to the professionals. Was looking for some local shops everybody kept giving an excuse that they couldn't do it one even said that i needed a whole new differential to install the parts. This is nothing less nor nothing more with the experience I had with them , They will waist your time , they will overcharge you , they make you go back and forth and still won't fix the issue, they are very limited in knowledge , they will ask you to drop the car to diagnose it and will keep it untouched for over 2 weeks, they will keep guessing and cost you money and will end up fixing the wrong thing, I gave them so many chances and I'm done , it's time to go to a real Michanic. read more

The work was top notch and couldn't be happier. For all the work that was needed the price was right and not overcharged. I needed a new axle and got the rear end regeared with a new LSD unit.
