Wanted to give this new salon a try and I'm so happy I did! The prices are super reasonable for being in the heart of downtown Walnut Creek. I haven't gone out much for a long time due to Covid, so I was a bit nervous about going to get my hair done. They are totally abiding by Covid protocol, I felt safe and sanitary the entire time. I had an appointment for a cut and all over color with Tracy Mills. Here are some pros and cons: Pros: - Tracy: Tracy was sweet and accommodating. I appreciated that she spent time with me at the beginning of the appointment to try to understand what I was looking to accomplish with the cut and color, and she gave input when trying to decide the best color option. She also made some adjustments at the end with the cut to try to correct some layers that weren't blending well. - The salon: Nice space with kind of an industrial vibe and a colorful spray painted mural to keep you occupied while in the shampoo chair. Cons: - Cut/color: Despite the effort to try to decipher what I was looking for out of my cut/color, both just missed the mark. Color: I had 6-week old highlights that I wanted to cover with a demi-permanent color so that my hair would be darker overall, but still maintain some of the dimension from the highlights. This is what my usual stylist has been doing on and off for months. What I ended up with was a very dark all over color that doesn't allow the old highlights to show through at all and also didn't cover the previous line of demarcation, so kind of a lose-lose on the color. Luckily, it'll wash out over time. Cut: When Tracy initially handed me a mirror to check out the cut there was a very choppy layer that was much shorter than the layers at the bottom of my hair. Tracy was receptive to my feedback about it, and took some length off the bottom to try to blend it all together. I'll say I still wasn't super happy with the way it was laying either in the back or at the sides after the adjustment, but Tracy was out of time since her next appointment had shown up. She told me to basically see how it looked at home and come back if I needed an adjustment, but she also knew I had travelled for the appointment and that coming back wasn't really a viable option. So I left with a cut that I think she knew wasn't really entirely right, but she just couldn't spend more time fixing it. Also, having to take so much length off the bottom to correct what seemed to be an error was not really what I wanted to do, but it was better than having a random short layer in my hair. I'll also just note that I have somewhat fine, wavy hair and simply asked for a trim and some shorter/blended layers to help give me good volume and shape. It doesn't seem like a challenging request but maybe it is. - Parking: Street parking / meter feeding - Drinksss: I know this shouldn't matter to me as much as it does, but I feel like drink options are kind of part of the 2+ hour-long salon experience. I was only offered water and it was frozen solid so I couldn't drink it. All in all, the cut and color were not great but not awful either. I don't think I'd recommend coming here or come back myself. read more

I normally do not write reviews, but I felt this was worth it for Naomi. I always have a hard time finding and trusting great hair stylist, but I saw the great reviews written on PREP. I just came in the salon as a complete mess, 5-minutes late because of parking, and I had the bad case of COVID hair. However, when I arrived, Naomi greeted me with kindness and made feel that I was in good hands. She carefully listened to what I wanted and as a end result, it turned out perfect! It was my first time getting haircut with Naomi, and with the amount of trust and kindness she has given me, I cannot wait to have my hair cut again with her. read more

I had my haircut a few weeks ago at Prep. I went to Target right after my appointment and was in the restroom there; a lady came of a stall and said "you're hair looks so cute"! Just a wonderful find, Lydi was amazing! My daughter hasn't had a hair cut since Christmas before Covid, so 1.5 years of damage needed taming. Lydi was so patient and helpful, even did a deep conditioning in addition to the cut and had lots of helpful advice for us. Really easy to talk to, my normally very shy daughter happily chatted for 2 hours. Loved that we were offered drinks (I was seriously considering that mimosa!) and the atmosphere was very casual and fun. We'll be back to get some bleaching and maybe color, I want my hair done and a friend is also excited to visit. Sometimes, the stars align and magic happens. That is what happened today, I had the day off and decided that I wanted to go and get my washed out hair color revamped! Of course I jumped on yelp to find a local salon to support and PREP was extremely responsive. They were able to get me in within an hour! I was seen by Sareena today and I HIGHLY recommend her for all of your coloring and cutting needs! My experience was 100% all around satisfactory! From the complementary sparkling water to the delightful conversation to the clean facility I couldn't have asked for a better way to spend my afternoon today. I told Sareena to get creative with my hair, she is after all the stylist and I am but a canvas for the creative work!! She did a really beautiful job blending the colors and she even added some really amazing smoky grays to the tips. I would have never thought to do that! I could not be happier with my cut and color done today by Carmina! I have never felt so comfortable with a new to me hairstylist. She definitely is a true artist and loves her craft. Naomi literally always does exactly what I want, she great at communicating and takes extra time if it's not right. She makes you feel very comfortable and never gets annoyed for explaining what you want even if it's convoluted. That's usually how I feel at most places, but not here. I always feel I can explain myself and she attentively listens. I've never had someone do my hair as well as she does and my hair is NOT easy to do. It's half blonde/strawberry blond-ish and half black, it's not easy to avoid getting the black onto the lighter part. She has been in the business for many years, and it shows. She knows exactly what she's doing, and she's pleasant to talk to! I never leave reviews but I went out of my way to write this one because I've seen her twice now and she never fails to amaze me! I was a returning customer. The first time I went in Monika did my haircut and it was lovely. This time I was helped by another staff member and everything was wrong. The deep conditioning wasn't done properly, my hair looked frizzier than before I came in, the haircut was kind of ok but she could have definitely paid a little more effort. The blow dry though was awful. I asked for a straight style and my hair was just a mess, I didn't even look like I went to an hair saloon. I have long hair and it took her 10 minutes top to do the whole head. A fairly poor service. Not coming back. read more

I was visiting the Bay for a wedding this past weekend and needed to get my hair done! As it is wedding season, so many salons were completely booked but PREP was able to make a last minute appointment for me which I was so thankful for. Naomi was my stylist and boy oh BOY, was she the loveliest surprise. She clearly demonstrated her expertise in describing how she wanted to tackle my hair. She absolutely did so much more than I could have asked for on such short notice!! I absolutely loved the blow out she gave me and received so many compliments on it. On top of that, she made sure to make the style last into the evening (which is very impressive for me because my hair always falls). She also is such a kind and sweet soul.
