    Sparking Matcha Lemonade
    Jessica D.

ASHER & JESSE'S CHICAGO COFFEE CRAWL '25 Ranked #13 out of 15 We stopped by this place after paying a visit at Kasama nearby! We were intrigued by their Hazelnut Supreme latte, especially with the combo of ginger but it sadly did not taste like much to us. My friend got their Sparking Matcha Lemonade and it was good!... until it wasn't. For some reason, it started tasting fishy towards the end of the drink. I would love to give them a second try and maybe try other drinks.

Came back and got a plain iced latte, and the whole time I was wishing I had gotten the drip coffee again. Not sure if it's always as good as it was when I came last time, but now I'm wondering and wish I had tried it again. Breakfast sandwich is still as good as ever. Great spot

Love the breakfast sandwich and coffee here. I would give this place 5 stars but, I feel like they have a problem with people with computers using the WIFI. I am always worried that I will not be able to find seating. My last visit there were 6 people with computers using 12 chairs (one chair for them and one for their backpack). It looked like 4 of the people did not order anything from the establishment and were just there for the WIFI. I am not sure what the shop could do about this and it is hard to believe that people who are not customers park there and take the seats of paying customers.

Popped in for a quick coffee and was very happy with it. I got the iced honey and cinnamon latte. Either oat milk. Really delicious. Isn't overly sweet. I also had a homemade pop tart. It has a blueberry filling with maple frosting on top. Super tasty, would get this again. The staff was super nice and made the coffee super quick. It's a nice space inside, good to come work, catch up with a friend or have a coffee date.

Prequel was next on the post market stop. When we walked in it was bright and vibrant. Lots of space too if you want to hangout. Saw the pastries right next to the register so you know we had to try some. We picked the apple strudel along with the blueberry miso butter cake. Apple strudel was not as dense as I was expecting with apple in every bite. That buttercream frosting was killer to pair with the blueberries. The cold brew was very light and chocolatey/caramely. Def got the motor going.

Super bright and cheery space from the moment you walk in - the art/decor is really oddly calming and makes this coffeeshop feel like a welcoming home. Walkable from my cousins place where I was staying and has great counter seating. Coffee itself was great - I usually only get black coffee anywhere I go, so I'm fairly easy to impress but theirs was bold and tasty. Definitely a great neighborhood spot!

Came to prequel cafe on a weekday morning to do some work with a friend and loved it! The ambience inside is bright, clean, comfortable and not too loud. The drinks themselves were great - not too sweet with lovely fall flavors, I could have definitely used a little more ginger in my drink but that's just personal preference. The staff were super friendly and helpful when choosing our coffee! Overall a lovely space in West Town and will definitely be back! Drink: 4.5/5 Price: 4.5/5 Service: 5/5 Ambience: 5/5

Was in the area for an appt and needed a spot to do some work. I ordered a cold brew and avocado toast. Both were good and it was nice to have the coffee served in a glass since I was staying. A good number of tables and many people working or conversing on a Friday afternoon. The front had a lot of light from the big windows. Staff was friendly. Will definitely be back when I'm in this area of town!

Upon entering you're greeted by the wonderful aroma of freshly baked pastries. The barista told me all are made in house. The decor is simple but nice - a more modern feel. I was the first and only customer there around 7am on a Sunday. I sat at the bar and watched out the window with my latte. With soy milk and tip it was around $7, which seems to be typical. The coffee was pretty tasty - smooth and not bitter. The only thing that held me back from 5 stars was the latte art was not defined. I appreciate a good latte art. I would definitely come back and I recommend!

Cute modern space with great coffee, pastries, and breakfast/cafe fare. The walls are lined with fun art (available for sale). What to get: cardamom brown sugar latte, honey cinnamon latte, avocado toast (with or without egg). I like bold but smooth coffee and they have that. The avocado toast was well-seasoned and beautifully assembled with a perfectly cooked hard-boiled egg (see photo). I'll be back to try more coffee/tea drinks and pastries.

    Pastrami bfast sammie on brioche

Really cute place visually. I ordered: 1 cold brew, it was good 1 pastrami bfast Sammie - I never like brioche for the bread because it's so bready. Basically I think it needed more grease because of the bread choice. The other option was a bagel again not a fan for a sandwich. Also too much egg but to each their own. It was beautiful The cookies are good, coffees are good

Came here to work remotely while i was back home in Chicago and the vibes are great. My latte was delicious as well and it's a great place to post up and work remotely or just grab a coffee.

Got caffeinated at Prequel in Chicago. The shop has a really cool aesthetic to it. Lot of good lighting and ambient music along with a decent amount of seating. Would be a great place to do work. I got an iced oat milk latte and it was pretty good. The oat milk paired nicely with the espresso (couldn't been a bit stronger) but overall was a solid drink. Would recommend!

The ube flavor is both sweet and nutty and the mousse topping was light and delicious. The main squeeze is lemon cake filled with lemon curd, cream cheese frosting, and a buttercream lemon on top. Both were incredible, but my favorite was the lemon! I loved that the lemon flavor was light, and the cream cheese frosting balanced it out really nicely. The space is so cute inside! It's also a lot larger than I was expecting. We grabbed a seat at one of the tables inside to enjoy our treats. I will definitely be back with my toddler for a cupcake date soon!

I actually don't like truffle or croissant but this was flaky, and the rock sugar (I think that's what it is?) on top is so addicting. the cream truffle filling was flavorful but not overpowering -- longanisa egg sandwich + hashbrown: 7/10 just wasn't a standout for me -- mushroom adobo: 8/10 it was flavorful - I would order again but not sure it's worth almost $20 for drinks, we both got the hot yam but my boyfriend got it iced and I got it hot -- it tasted better iced but it was still lacking in ube flavor. the coffee also didn't taste strong enough for me personally honestly I really wanted to like this place more but for almost $100 for everything and the long wait, I expected at least half of the items to be perfect but I felt like only the truffle croissant felt like a 10/10 for me I will say the staff was very sweet though -- maybe it's a better experience dining in, so I think next time I will wake up early to eat inside and hopefully be able to give a higher rating :-)

I was skeptical at first because it is a local chain, rather than a singular location. However, it lived up to the hype. Service: it was extremely busy when we came in. The line was almost out the door. They have a system in place for ordering and seating so it worked well and fast given how busy they were. We didn't have any questions on where to order or where to stand when waiting for a seat. The staff were friendly and helped us find a spot to sit at. Ambiance: classic cafe in a city. Loud chatter, but it's a vibe. Very colorful and fun interior with cool textural elements. We had a seat that was facing the street so it was fun to people watch as we sipped and ate. Food: amazing breakfast selection! We ordered the morning sandwich and barbacoa bowl. The morning sandwich had THICK scrambled eggs which were super soft and tasty. I could've used more salsa verde on it. The bread was barely toasted. I'd rate the sandwich a 3.8/5. It got the job done. The barbacoa bowl was "really good" according to my fiancé. A great source of protein, fresh ingredients, nice flavor, and great portions. He would rate it a 5/5. Coffee: I am a coffee snob so I am quite harsh when it comes to reviewing it. Their machine is a cute La Marzocco. Appropriate sized "for-here" glasses according to the drinks. Plus, they were really cute. Wide variety of drink selection from your standards to the more girly-drinks (if there is such a thing). We ordered a cappuccino and small hot mocha. Latte art 4.5/5, temperature 5/5, flavor 4/5. The espresso didn't stand out to me, very standard flavor profile. However, the chocolate in the mocha was delicious. It's more of a rich, dark chocolate. Nice thin layer of foam. Would recommend to try at least once when you're in Chicago! Glad to have stopped in.

We visited around noon on a Sunday, and after reading the reviews here, I wasn't optimistic there would be many pastries left. Maybe I should play the lottery, because luckily there was no line and a pretty good selection of pastries left. The staff were super friendly and there were so many unique flavors of baked goods. We decided to split several and opted for the blueberry cloud cookie, chai cinnamon roll, banana pudding croissant, espresso cornflake cookie, and potato focaccia. The shop was more of a small take-out operation, so we took the pastries to a nearby park to eat. Everything was absolutely divine! The group favorite was the focaccia- the creamy potatoes and cheese brought a rich flavor that was perfectly balanced by the fluffy bread. The chai roll was perfectly soft and delicately spiced, completed with that soft cream cheese frosting and gooey center we all like to see. My personal favorite was the banana pudding croissant- the dough was so crispy that I'm pretty sure others could hear the bite, and there was a generous amount of filling with fresh bananas and visible vanilla beans in the whipped cream. The espresso cookie was super soft- while I couldn't taste the espresso very clearly, I absolutely *loved* the caramel-coated cornflakes topped with sea salt. Super unique and would definitely order again. Despite their decadent appearances, none of the pastries were too sweet. Already plotting a return visit and can't recommend this shop enough!
