You gotta be a pretty dope spot to get a five star review. This is one of them. [[HIGHLIGHT]]You can easily miss this place because there's not a big sign jetting out from the door frame or on the sidewalk.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]As soon as you reach you get pulled into a time warp and end up back in the late 80s-early 2000s. There are video games such as sega genesis, pac man, cassette tapes, vinyls, a DJ on select days and times, movies playing, posters and a contagious energy that will get you hyped ... and that's before you get the coffee![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They partner with dark matter coffee, do-rite donuts, bennison's bakery & cafe tola and so you're getting good quality beans. With that they make your usual lattes and americanos but also speciality drinks such as the two we got: Vanilla peach latte - which is the first time I got those two mixed together and thought it was well balanced. Neither one overpowered each other. I was hesitant on the peach but gave it a unique twist. Creamsicle latte - which had orange and vanilla. This one we got cold and it was super refreshing. I'm not a creamsicle guy but I digged this one. It wasn't creamy and a little light on the strength of the orange which I think is what I liked most about it. Other flavors they had include: blueberry lavender latte blueberry pancakes latte which has maple syrup and blueberry banana pancakes latte which has maple syrup and banana almond joy which has almond coconut syrup with chocolate It's Black owned. Street parking is avail. Felt decently okay to walk by during the day. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I came for a quick drink and spent a little over 75 minutes here before I dragged myself out.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]
I am always on the hunt for new coffee shops. When I saw so many people talking about the banana pancake latte, I had to try it. Concerned it would be overhyped, I was pleasantly surprised when it exceeded my expectations. It's delicious. Imagine a coffee banana bread in liquid form. The staff was super nice and even with a decent line they crank out drinks fast. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The space is cool, with different areas to play vintage video games. There's also an outdoor area in the back.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] This will be in the rotation now and I'll be craving the banana pancake latte, but also want to try one of their dozen other flavors (looking at you blueberry pancake latte).

So much cool stuff to check out-- so please take your time doing so. Extremely cool third space.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Baristas were also very friendly. My partner and I got their blueberry pancake latte and a mango mocha-- super unique drinks so I'll give them props there. Not my fav coffee ever but I did not hate it. We also got their Maple Bacon donut that was so freaking good. Overall, super cool concept and would visit again.

It was the perfect amount of sweetness and the flavor was tasty. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They also have old Nitendo games where you can play them on the couch which was nostalgic and pretty cool.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] If I'm ever back in Chicago, I'd definitely try more specialty coffees from their menu!

[[HIGHLIGHT]]I sat at the front and had a perfect view for people watching.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]They have a big bin of dog treats out front and a place to tie your pup while you pop in for your drinks.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I ordered a flat white with soy milk. It was perfectly balanced and a bold coffee flavor. The barista did well on the latte art! I will definitely be back!

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Standing Passengers has a unique interior with 3 tvs for watching movies or playing video games of your choosing, as well as, quiet corners to get work done.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The staff is incredibly kind, very laid back and they work well under pressure. I came in at a slower time but then a line formed to the door and they handled it efficiently. They don't accept cash which is the only "problematic" issue.

This place has such a cool vibe! Some friends and I stopped by for some morning coffee & tea during our girls trip. The eccentric decor is what really drew us in. Inside there's a few tables & couch area but it does tend to get crowded quickly. Their menu featured the usuals as well as some signature lattes and breakfast burritos. To drink I had an iced dirty matcha. I enjoyed it. A super solid start to the morning!

Our newly discovered favorite Saturday treat! I've seen Standing Passengers many times driving or walking to Eckhart Park. We finally made a stop in and have been coming for the last few weekends since. We've tried a couple great ones like Caramel Toffee and a Lavender combo where the other flavor slips my mind, but do not think it still wasn't delicious. At first, we ordered a couple hot varieties, but with the weather warming up, a barista recommended an Iced Chocolate Banana Mocha and we haven't looked back since. Absolutely delicious and very nostalgic for me! They put care and craft into every drink and we love making this stop a part of our routine. They also offer lunch items they make in house with a great selection. We haven't tried them for lunch yet, but we'll sometimes grab a taco that they serve from Cafe Tola and they're always great. They are stacked for $6 each. We really like the Machacha (shredded beef), Chorizo, & Veggie. The hot sauce has quite the kick and we'll use a whole one for one taco. Flour Power also has a collab with them where they serve meatball sandwiches. I'm looking forward to giving one a try eventually. All in all, absolutely recommend. Great vibes, free wifi, and a beautifully spacious outdoor patio with wonderful people and service.

Came to yet another coffee shop on Chicago Avenue. It kind of combines a coffee shop with an arcade for one of the more unique businesses around here. Standing Passengers also has a public transportation kind of theme. As for the coffee, it's good. There's also doughnuts and other pastries. Because there's so many other coffee places around here, I never had noticed it before. It was only by looking up coffee that I was aware and decided to come in. This is kind of a small place. Even so, it's bigger than it appears. There's the front with the counter and some couches and tables. In the back is a more private area. They had a list of seasonal coffee, and I got the Vanilla Mint Latte. It's about $6, kind of expensive. The upside is it was full of flavor. It's $3 for vegan doughnuts. They had apple cider and chocolate at the time. Fun place for coffee and games. It's also open later than most other coffee shops. There's also doughnuts that are okay for vegans. read more

[[HIGHLIGHT]]I came here to coworker with a friend and was pleasantly surprised by the nostalgic ambience and unique decor.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I also love the vinyl records for purchase at the front of the store. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There were plenty of seating options, but I would recommend coming before noon before they are taken up.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]There are also plenty of outlets and there is free Wi-Fi.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] When I was there, I got the hoagie and lavender vanilla latte and both were excellent. The hoagie bread was a little tough, but other than that it hit the spot. They have a cooler of water on the side, which I appreciate when you're coworking. The service was also friendly and helpful. I will definitely be back and if you're in the area it's worth a visit. read more
The inside of this cafe is so cool, a mix of neon color lights and retro gaming memorabilia. It's like being 8 again and playing video games in the kid next door's basement. The coffee was good but almost $9 for a 12 oz iced latte is criminal (incld tip). The upcharge for milk and maybe a syrup ( unsure if syrup flavor is extra) was a bit steep. It wasn't a bad cup of coffee by any means just more expensive than other places I've visited. Maybe because its West Town? If you stick to regular coffee I think the prices align with other coffee shops throughout the city. read more
Continuing my tour of Chicago area coffee shops, I was a couple blocks from Standing Passengers and stopped in for a drink. They had a lot of options--all of the standard coffee shop fare and in addition to that a LONG list of specials. I ordered a banana pancake latte (a latte with banana and maple flavors) and an iced rootbeer chai latte (yep, like it sounds). I've been thinking for a while I should try an iced chai and this intrigued me since root beer is my favorite pop, so why not try it since I like both? I learned that I think I'm more a hot chai person (even in summer). The iced didn't really do much for me. It tasted a little sugary but more than that the mouthfeel of an iced chai wasn't as pleasant. I think I just like a nice cozy warm chai and obviously iced wouldn't supply that. Comments were positive on the banana pancake latte too, and I was told the flavors blended well. The pastries and stuff they sell seem to be brought in from other vendors. As one might suspect from the name of the cafe, there's a bit of a CTA theme happening here. But in addition to that they are leaning into retro gaming which I thought was cool and quirky. You'll find several comfy-looking couches scattered about where folks can play famikon/original NES in one area or Super Nintendo in another. There's also one of those tabletop electronic games (I don't know what to call it, but it looks like a small desk with a joystick on it to play the game under the surface of the table). In service of the retro theme you won't play these on a flat screen, but instead be transported back to your childhood (for some of us at least) to play on a tube television. (I have to admit, it was a bit jarring to see one of those!) In addition to the game areas there are a few tables and/or chairs to just hang out and enjoy your drink. Parking is street only. I can't recall if Greenview required a permit, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't metered parking. However, metered parking is available all along Chicago Avenue and when I visited was pretty wide open (perhaps that was just the Tuesday afternoon of it all). Standing Passengers also loves your furry friends and had a container with doggie treats and bowl of water outside for their safety and enjoyment. read more

Standing passengers iced banana pancake latte with almond milk is so delish!!! They have do rite donuts and I got a pistachio donut which is a fave. By the time I went it was the afternoon so they were sold out of all of the cafe tola empanadas. read more
Nice little spot to have some coffee and play some video games. Staff is very friendly, coffee is good and they have a variety of seating. The day I was there though people were camped out and working and having zoom meetings. How do you have a zoom meeting in a crowded coffee shop? Go back to your apartment. So odd. They had breakfast tacos that were really tasty from Cafe Tola. Yum! I appreciate that they have local, high quality tacos instead of selling crappy frozen ones that they microwave. I'll definitely stop back if I'm in the neighborhood. read more

One of the better cafes I visited during my short stay in Chicago. These guys serve Dark Matter Coffee and carry Do-Rite Donuts in their pastry case, both of which make for a top-tier coffee/pastry combo. I got a Cortado with whole milk, which was just to my liking. Really smooth with no excess acidity. The baristas know how to pull an espresso shot. I also got a couple of donuts: Old-Fashioned and Meyer Lemon Pistachio. Both were fresh and perfectly cakey. I wasn't sure I'd have time to visit Do-Rite while in Chicago, so I'm really glad I could find their donuts here. Just bear in mind that I grabbed the last Meyer Lemon Pistachio donut around 8:30 am on a weekday. Early bird gets the worm! I spent my morning playing Super Smash Bros from one of their retro TVs, which is essentially the best way to start the day. I loved this spot's playful and relaxed atmosphere. Paired with a quality cup of coffee, Standing Passengers can't be beat. Don't walk, run! read more

I had my first chance to come here the other day in between appointments. I was taken aback by the dim lighting, especially due to the gray weather outside, but that's beside the point. The two guys behind the counter were super cool. I got my mocha with in 5 minutes and was deeply satisfied by the taste and temperature of the drink. Seating is interesting as most tables arcade style tops, so while you focus on your phone and laptop, you're also getting the bits of flashing lights out of the corner of your eye. While it can be distracting, it's also really neat to see these games being used in different settings. All in all, I would give 4 stars to this coffee shop. The vibes are happening if you like old school video games. Their outdoor patio is also very nice if you're looking for a relaxing coffee on a pleasant day. Their tacos are outsourced and decent enough. I'll have to try their pastries when I come back. read more

Really cute spot with tons of unique/antique decor! I ordered a coffee and a breakfast tacos. Wasn't impressed with the taco (biggie smalls) but the coffee was yummy! We also played with the old school gaming systems while we waited for our next spot to open! read more
Good coffee, tea, pastries, and even breakfast burritos! Love hanging out and enjoying the vibes of this cafe. There are multiple couches for people to chill on and even pick up a controller to play retro games on. The decor is definitely quirky with graffiti on the walls, random little trinkets everywhere, and cool blue lighting. read more

Needed to kill time before another store opened so I popped in here to grab a coffee. This place is adorably retro. They serve coffee and tea beverages and have a small amount of couches and tables for 3... But they also have games! A projector in the back played episodes of Rurouni Kenshin. One couch was in front of an old CRT TV hooked up to a Nintendo 64. One table for 2 was a two-player Ms. Pac-Man! FYI, they only accept cards. read more

Love supporting local coffee shops & the atmosphere of this place did not disappoint. The place felt very niche with N64 games & nicely furnished store. The coffee is on the price-y side, 2 coffees for $18.90. I enjoy their specialty drink menu & the mango mocha was definitely different fusion of flavors. If you're looking to get a coffee fix, a nice place to check out! read more
