And then they showed up and did the exact opposite. They didn't even bother to wrap my furniture properly. My dresser and my nightstand were rolled out on a dolly with just a blanket draped over the top -- the entire bottom fully exposed and unprotected. I have photo evidence. This wasn't a mistake. This was how they operate. One of their movers was missing for half the move, and the rest of the crew took 30 minutes to drive across the street. Yes, literally across the street. The level of carelessness and unprofessionalism was beyond anything I've ever experienced. When I confronted them with proof, they first admitted the crew took shortcuts -- then quickly flipped the script and tried to claim that throwing a blanket over a piece of furniture is their "standard practice." That's not a standard -- that's pure negligence, and they had the nerve to defend it. They refused to take accountability. They denied the damage was their fault. And instead of making it right, they offered me a half refund and called it a "goodwill gesture." This company is a scam. They cut corners, gaslight customers, and hide behind empty policies when they're called out. Avoid 801 Moving Company like your furniture depends on it -- because it does. So with the truck, fuel, hotels and food they both costed about the same. The Penske truck seemed cheaper but once you add up all the other stuff the cubes were actually a little cheaper. Also with the cubes I didn't have to take time off work, no stress of trying to figure out where I was going, traffic idiots that don't know how to drive and I knew my stuff was in professional hands. We put or stuff with U-pack storage which ended up being nice because we didn't close on our house for 2 1/2 weeks later than we expected. No blankets were used on the ground and furniture was not wrapped. The result is several awful tears and damage to my sectional. I did purchase insurance with them hoping I would not need it. The general manager JAMES tells me it's there right to try and fix a torn brand new 5000.00 couch. This has been going on for 3 weeks and still not figured out. I regret using A1 for my interstate move (which cost me almost $5000, so not a small expense for…read morethe sub par service). First, A1 is Wheaton Movers' agent in Utah. So while a huge part of my experience was with A1, a small part was with Wheaton. Second, I rely on reviews to make important decisions so I've tried to outline my experience in some detail below. I had pored over reviews before making the final decision on whom to use for the move. I started the process early by locking in the movers at the end of June for a September move. After speaking with Kris Middleton, I settled on A1 as he was quick to respond and seemed to be on the ball with his service. Boy was I wrong! After I signed the agreement, reaching him was next to impossible and required me emailing, texting and finally calling multiple times in order to reach him. The receptionist at A1 was never courteous and Kris was never efficient after I signed on with them. Additionally, he never even guided me in the direction of someone who could've been of more assistance. Now, the one positive was he was initially helpful when I needed to be flexible about my move-in date (about a week or so). After signing the initial agreement, I never got any official documentation from them besides a move estimate. I was concerned closer to the date when I hadn't heard anything from them so had to keep trying Kris to get any information. The movers themselves were one of the few bright lights in this process. I wish I still had the document with their names as I would shout them out. I did notice one girl being rough with one of my more fragile items (she threw it when she didn't know I'd come back in the apartment and was watching) but overall they were great! After the movers left, I got nothing from Kris until I finally called the office and asked to speak with Kristen since the people who came to move my stuff recommended her. She was great. Answered all of my questions, gave me the final amount I owed and confirmed when my items would get to me. I paid my amount in full and drove to my new home. A few weeks later when my items got to me the driver said he wouldn't be able to unload my stuff as I STILL OWED MONEY for my move. I explained I had paid in full and would not be paying a penny extra as it had already cost me almost $5000. He finally agreed to unload my stuff and to deal directly with A1. A few weeks later I got a bill from Wheaton Movers for $150 extra that I "owed". I called A1 as I never received a text back from Kris when I explained the issue. The person who answered was helpful, said Wheaton often tried this scam and that they'd handle it and get back to me. They never did. I had to call multiple times and email (due to the rude receptionist) and finally Kristen emailed me confirmation they had sorted out the issue. If you're looking for efficient, consistent service, look elsewhere. This place isn't it.

Our home was over 3800 sq ft, and Alpha predicted only 4 days to pack/move (Tues-Fri). I was highly skeptical it would only take 4 days but I'm not a mover, what do I know? That Tuesday Alpha showed up with only 2 guys, by the time they left around 4pm it had looked they barely scratched the surface. And when they left, they never informed me, which meant my garage doors were both open stuff strewn about, hopefully nothing was stolen. I had contacted Alpha's main office and spoke to a supervisor asking that the movers inform me before they leave at the end of the day, that way I can lock and shut everything up. He insisted he would pass the message along, unfortunately this would be a trend and Alpha would repeated leave without informing me. Alpha didn't show Wednesday until after 1pm, and it was obvious to my wife and I that Alpha would NOT finish by Friday afternoon. So beginning Wednesday my wife and I were packing, moving boxes, and loading while Alpha was in our home, and after hours once Alpha left. There was a silver lining to this because we were able to pack/load opened food pantry items, other liquids, and aerosols that otherwise might not have been sent. Thursday came and Alpha brought in an extra team so for most of the day we had 5-6 movers. And again, Alpha leaving at the end of the day and not informing me. Friday came and Alpha brought only 3 people, and by the end of the day--as expected--Alpha was not close to being done. So once again my wife and I packed into the night, and the next day, Saturday, Alpha arrived and finally around 4 or 5pm Alpha was finally complete. Then Alpha left without doing a walkthrough which by now I expected given Alpha's lackluster performance at that point. So on my walkthrough I found moving debris which Alpha left and one of my shelves that Alpha left behind, had a walkthrough been accomplished the shelf would've been identified. Had my wife and I not assisted Alpha, then the move would have inevitably bled into the following week which was when our family departed to my next duty station. So bottomline had we not helped, we would have been forced to change airline and hotel reservations which we had to book several weeks in advance. Alpha had also had a couple of temp workers who were clearly untrained. For instance, one of these temps would just throw loose things in boxes. My wife had to correct her that you don't lay bottles of shampoo on their sides and then pile lots of other things on top of them. At my destination I would discover a number of items missing, and unfortunately never recovered. It's possible the destination mover "lost" these HHG, of course it wouldn't surprise me if it was Alpha, given Alpha's overall level of workmanship. So again, if timeliness, professionalism, thoroughness, and your personal belongings do not matter to you, then look no further than Alpha.

I had some very heavy boxes (my mistake overloading them) of books and emergency food supply and they had no problem handling the heavy load up a flight of stairs. They were careful all around as not to damage my wood floors as they put down protection so as not to scratch or soil the floors. Very efficient and timely with what I had to move and will call on them again.
