I took my golden retriever in for grooming appointment at 2:00. The price was $60. Not only did it take 5 hours but it cost more than double! Poor guy had no water during that time. A few days later I had to spend another $200 at the vet from a wound that was inflicted by the groomer who may have been rough on him. It was also infected so he also had to be put on antibiotics. read more

I brought my neighbors' dogs here for a bath and groom and the owner was excellent. She put both of the dogs in a large waiting, fenced in area and I left them in her capable hands. She called me just three hours later saying they were ready to be picked up. The dogs looked gorgeous when I picked them up. She explained that the dogs did a great job. I took 2 of my dogs there. They were flexible in making the appointments around my work schedule. They did a great job with the bath and deshedding-both dogs came back with very soft coats, and still no shedding after almost 2 months! I am going to preface this by noting that I am very hesitant to so positively review Pretty Paws because my poor mop, Desmond, needs grooming and this place is so adored that with regularity he has to go through some ugly hair phases before his glorious, pretty boy restorative sessions (that's my fault in not scheduling appropriately). He is currently feeling so damn sexy that I must, however, applaud, Pretty Pups. Desmond is not an easy dog. He doesn't much care for any touching of feet or any sense less than utter prince status. This staff is brilliantly professional. They coped with Covid in ways that were so responsible and thoughtful of our dogs' and their families' needs. They have a great system in place that actively and regularly communicates appointments, and they place dogs, including princes, in situations that are comfortable. I have no idea how Desmond behaves while he is there, but I am sure it's not with grace, yet he always has a smile on his beautifully groomed face when I retrieve him. I feel my dog is safe. I feel that they took extra measures to keep all of us safe. I walked in to pick up Desmond today and there were multiple dogs all recently groomed waiting for pick-up. All were jovial in this meticulous space. For those needing more limited contact, that exists, as well. The groomers and staff are accessible. It's an experience I want you to book, but also not, because I love Desmond having time at Pretty Pups. But, I also want that for your family. read more

I love this place! I've taken my dogs here many times and always leave satisfied. The owner seems very passionate about her job and professional. Everytime I have a special request she makes sure that she does it exactly as I ask and double checks that it's to my ecpectations when I pick up my dogs. The shop is very clean both in the grooming area and in the front section. It is a welcoming atmosphere. It was my first time at the groomers with my first pet that I have been completely responsible for. The two women running the shop were busy so I left my cat in their care for 50 minutes; when I came back I was taken back to the grooming area. The women were so nice and affectionate towards my cat. My cat is a very tolerant and patient cat, but she is very sensitive and will spook easily. The woman that groomed my cat was very gentle and reassuring. She did a wonderful job giving my cat a "lion cut" because my cats mats had gotten really bad and trying to brush them out was just not going to happen. I thought the price was very reasonable for the services and my cat looks so much happier than she did with all of the mats. I definitely recommend this place for kitty owners (I know there are not many places that will groom cats, so I was grateful that this place was so wonderful). We have taken our cat to get groomed here for the last year. She gets a bath and a shave (which is really a little trim) every time. This time the groomer called me to tell me she didn't want to shave her completely because of the cold weather. We discussed the options and she agereed to bathe her and trim her. When we picked her up we were charged $53 for the service. When we got her home she was only bathed and not trimmed. I called and talked to the groomer to complain and she said she thinks we should just bathe her, but if we REALLY want her trimmed, just bring her back in a week. I was furious! Our cat had been there for 4 hours and it's always on ordeal to take her to the groomers in the first place. We will NEVER go back. read more

My dogs have been groomed here about five times. Every time, the owner and workers act like they have never seen my dogs before. I never have a warm experience when I go here. While I have been satisfied with my pets' appearance whenever I pick them up, I am very disturbed by how long I have to leave them there. On more than one occasion, I would drop them off and would not get a call back that they were ready until MORE THAN 5 HOURS later. we drop our dog off for a 1:00 appointment. the female groomer/manager says it will be 4 hours at the most. no one called us, we called multiple times and no answer. we show up at 4:30 wondering what is going on. the male groomer said they haven't even begun grooming her!!!! she was sitting in a crate for almost 4 hours! he said it will be another hour. i asked why they never called us to let us know, he said we are so backed up we couldn't. the male groomer was extremely rude and dismissive. plus all the other dogs we saw when we dropped off ours were still there barking and crying. disgusting place. do not bring your pets here!!! if i could rate this place zero i would. read more

From the time I drop him with her until she phones me to come pick him up I can be assured that her premium service guarantees she spends that time with only him. And for that peace of mind it results in a minimal additional fee. An integral part of a guide dog's training is to not let their partner out of their site,. It takes additional training to get the dog comfortable being left with a groomer while their partner is out of their sight and control for about an hour. I've been going here for years, but after my last experience I won't be going back. I have noticed things changing over the last year or so but now I'm finally ready to try another place. My husband picked up our pet so he didn't realize what the cost was, but he paid $82 for a groom that normally costs us $55 (after tip). I was ok with the $55, but when we called to ask about the charge, they informed us that they charged extra for his hair being more matted than normal, which took them extra time. I'm sorry, but almost $30 extra for a 12 pound dog is absurd. That is like a stylist charging more for a haircut because there were more tangles in your hair than most people have. I just cannot afford to be shelling out this much money for my dogs haircut, so I unfortunately will have to try somewhere new. read more

I have always had a great experience here until the last time I came to have my Maltese groomed. I had been here many times in the past and it took one experience to ruin it all. I have never had anything but complements about how well behaved my dog is while being groomed (especially being a puppy). The last person to groom my dog said that she would be ready to be picked up around 3pm. I showed up around 3 to see the groomer grabbing my dog by the ears and shaking her head (not in a playful way). I yelled saying hey if she is not sitting all you have to do is tell her to sit... and guide her bottom down. The woman continued to be rough with my dog and i stopped her right there... and told her i wanted my dog now. I will not subject my dog to this abuse. I ended up taking her down to PetCo on San Mateo to be finished up. I paid the amount to be groomed and walked out. This is completely unacceptable. It only takes one bad experience to lose a customer for life. DO NOT TAKE YOUR PETS HERE. read more

Marilyn consistantly does a great job grooming our miniature Silky Yorshire terrier. Our terrier, Sage, is an old, snarky lady, who is a bit nervous at times. Marilyn is kind and gentle and no matter how messy Sage goes in, we get her back primped and pretty with a bow in just a couple of hours. Marilyn's prices are great as well. Terrible Service, kept my pet for 6 hours, did not finish job, left my dog with severe razor burns, red bumps, and nicked the area my dog urinates. When trying to call business for status on my pet during the service, no one answers phone, receptionist dresses provocative for a pet grooming business., but fails to do her job by answering phones, Have tried several times to contact owner to address my issues, and has failed to do so by phone and or email. I will never take my pets back. Business appears to be going down hill fairly quickly. Not enough groomers, and continuously overbooks appointments. Now I have to pay vet for razor burns, red bumps(probably from sitting in the kennel 6 hours)!!!!!!!!! and have to get antibiotics for infection. Never Again! Re-think before booking here. read more

I paid extra for the "no cage" experience and explained to the very unfriendly lady (owner?) at the counter that my dog was a bit high anxiety and a big baby. She barely said anything to me to acknowledge that or react let alone reassure and encourage us. She ordered us to fill out paperwork and took the dog into a corral type pen with about 3 foot walls that wasn't a cage - but he was still led away from us into this enclosure and he freaked out....he was in there upset while we stood there filling out paperwork. This whole time she said nothing and no calming or petting our upset dog. Why wouldn't she leave him with us as long a possible before penning him up? Then we left hesitantly and when we came back she was the same cold and unfriendly - no personality person. I asked how the dog had done and she said "fine, he doesn't like the blow dryer" and that was it. The whole thing with the cage free and deshedding was like $130 - ouch! Plus I tipped $20 for the workers. Overall, I did not get a warm caring feeling or any warmth at all. I would not take my dog back to this place after that experience. read more

We had an 8:30 appointment as did a couple of others. One person finally showed up at 8:40. When I checked in 2nd in line I left instructions on grooming our puppy as the Labradoodle she is. I was told it could be 4 hours. Fine, it ended up being 5.75 hours and that was after the lady said there were dogs ahead of me. I was second in line. When I saw the poor puppy she looked terrible. Way too much off her body and it was obvious they did not know how to groom a Labradoodle. Also, when I came in I saw two people working on one little dog as one cut, another was manhandling the poor little thing holding the two front paws high and struggling. I know that a dog can be difficult at times, but two women struggling with a little guy and not very gently-wow. I'm never going back there. I just went in to get my long haired cat a shave, (which is more like a trim at other salons). Online it states $60 for a bath, shave or brush, nail trim, and anal expression. I told the receptionist that I would like a trim, and clarified I did not want her bald. 2 hours into the appointment, I call to check on my kitty, no answer. Then, 45 mins later I get a call from Marilyn saying she cannot get my Kitty back into the cage. She also mentioned that she couldn't finish because my cat was fighting her. I asked her what she had done up to that point and she said she had most of the shave completed, I asked about the bath and she said "I don't like to bathe and shave the kitties, its too much for them." THEN WHY DO YOU SAY THAT IS PART OF A GROOMING ON YOUR SERVICES LIST? Wouldn't you bath the cat before the shave? Or even brush. I hurry over to the salon and find my cat enclosed in a bathroom closet in the back. She is terrified and as soon as Marilyn walked in, she hisses (very uncharacteristic of her). Marilyn excuses herself and my cat begins to calm down. She is very unevenly shaved. I will attach a photo of it, its hideous. I told her that I had no idea it would be shaved short and she said that is all that they do there. I am thinking, 1) because she didn't finish the promised service and 2) it was less than the four hour window 3) it was not what i asked for that she wouldn't charge me full price. I was completely mistaken, she charged me $83. I was so emotional seeing my pet so distressed that I just handed over my card and signed the receipt. I get back home and notice that she is tender on her paws, probably from the nails being clipped too short. I immediately call the salon back and call them out on their discrepancy. Marilyn is defensive and says that her price for that service is $75 and she spent "too much time" on my cat. Regardless, if that price was truly $75 ($15 over what is stated online) wouldn't that be for a complete service? All four hours, the bath, the brush and a complete trim. Marilyn does over to give me a refund for $15 but is making me come back to the salon. I won't. Just so you know, I looked at these reviews prior (my mistake) and thought that maybe they were exceptions, usually only upset customers leave negative reviews. I am telling any potential customer to read each of these reviews carefully. There are numerous customers that complain of Marilyn OVER CHARGING. They are accurate. There are several reviews that are unhappy with their grooming services, they are accurate as well. If you love your animals, you will not take them here to be groomed. I have taken my cat to Pretty Pets for grooming several times times over the past year. He was a stray and is very fearful of people he doesn't know. Marilyn has been wonderful with him. The first time he was terrified of the bath, so she didn't bathe him so as not to destroy his trust but rather brushed him thoroughly. Since then she has been able to bathe and groom him. The best part is that she takes him immediately so he doesn't have to be frightened by the other animals. Cat groomers are hard to find and this has been the best experience I have had. read more

If I could give this place less than one star I would. A year ago we took our dog in to be groomed. He ended up sustaining an injury which eventually forced us to end his life before his time. According to the owner he was "too old". I didn't know that you could not take older dogs to be groomed. They DRAGGED him and injured his hips. We took him to the vet and then took the bill back to the owner who then reimbursed us. She said she would reimburse us for the bills and we never took him back there to be groomed. Yesterday we had to euthanize him, he was twelve years old and could no longer walk due to his hip injury. Now the owner refuses to reimburse us and refused to acknowledge the fact that this had ever happened... until I advised her that I had recordings of our conversation from the initial incident. A year after the fact she wants to take it to her insurance and have them deal with it. As a business owner it is her responsibility to take it to her insurance company when it happens not way after the fact. If you care about and love your animals I would highly advise using this groomer. BTW the person who dragged our dog was never reprimanded and as far as we know was still working there when we spoke to another worker a few months back who witnessed him being injured. I am heartbroken over the loss of our dog. We had him since he was a 6 weeks old and he never had health issues. He was an active and healthy dog up until we took him to Pretty Pets Groomers. read more

I took my chihuahua to get her nails trimmed and the guy doing it wasn't nice or gentle. They offered to sand the nails down for a small extra cost so that they aren't rough, which i had never heard of so I said sure. While he was going to her nails with a dremel, my little puppy was making high-pitched whimpering sounds and crying the whole time - I didn't know that it was my dog making those sounds at first because I had never heard her make them before. When ask that he stop, he said he was almost done and kept going, despite her crying. She was acting so submissive when he gave her back. I can only imagine what they do in the back room with such a lack of sensitivity. read more

Worst grooming experience ever! The owner has a lot to learn about customer service. When the initial appt. was made she forgot to get my contact info so the groomer had no idea where to go. Thank goodness I called to find out where she was. Then she shows up over an hour after she says she's on her way, and shows up reeking like cigarettes. She was nice so I let it go but really? Did a TERRIBLE job cutting my dogs. They were uneven everywhere, she didn't even trim the paws on one of my dogs at all. I brought it to her attention and she had some stupid excuse which only led me to believe she wasn't comfortable doing it so I let it go, not willing to risk her hurting my dog. I contacted the owner the next day and she scheduled to come out to fix them in a few days. Then SHE shows up over an hour late. When I confront her about it she tells me that she has an hour window from the time scheduled which she failed to mention when she booked the appt. or on the Email confirmation she sent. I found that to be ironic since she only allowed the first groomer a 30 minute window, and they were both still late without even calling! I told her I just wanted a refund and was no longer interested in my dogs being done. She stated that her time frame was on the web site along with a no refund policy. Which would've been fine had I not booked over the phone. She allowed me to come in to the van with her to groom the dogs. She agreed the work was bad and had to re-cut them all over again. She stated that in order to make them more even she would've washed and fluffed them first (two are poodles) but didn't do it since apparently "fixing" does not mean completely. the paws still should have been cut shorter as I had made clear to both of them the curly hair mats up and yeast develops. She blended their bodies a little better but there were some things that apparently couldn't be fixed. Then she has the audacity to attempt a passive aggressive remark, however poor it was, on my knowledge with cutting curly hair. As if to imply I had no idea how challenging it was, which unbeknown to her I actually did because I've been cutting it on people for over ten years. I had already lost my entire last day in town to her and didn't feel I should have to state the obvious on how to do her job. So she apparently felt she did the best she knew how but fell very short on what a professional dog groom should actually look like. And on top of it all they both missed that one of my dogs was having a severe allergic reaction to bites from stick fleas which we found the next day. Our vet said he could not believe it was overlooked and no groomer he ever worked with would have missed it. I have been in the customer service industry for over ten years with clients from all over the world and would NEVER be this unprofessional or unethical. I don't know how she is still in business and can only assume its by preying on dog owners naivety. I strongly recommend to anyone looking go anywhere else but here. read more

We had an appointment today and a different groomer shows up at the door saying they had purchased the mobile grooming van Pretty Pets had been conducting business out of. Since we had a grooming relationship with Marilyn at Pretty Pets and hadn't received any for warning that she had sold the Mobile Grooming business, imagine my shock and surprise. I am disappointed Marilyn didn't feel our business was important enough to at least let us know she had sold the business and give us the opportunity to consider another service. Our two dogs were dropped off at 12pm and we were told they would be ready by 3pm. Called at 3:30 and was told they would actually be ready at 5pm. Called at 5:15pm and no answer. Drive over there and one dog is still sitting in the cage (hasn't been touched - 5.5 hours after being dropped off). The other had just been taken back for a bath. The owner, Marilyn H. (who likes to leave 5 star reviews for herself all over the web), then tells me that she does not know when they will be ready and that it is not her problem that her employees are new and slow, huh? I then tell her that I wasn't my dogs and a refund (I prepaid) and she flips out yelling at me saying there are no refunds after the dogs have been started. Finally left with my un-groomed dogs and no refund 10 minutes later. Pretty Pets should be avoided at all costs! read more

1st off....In other review webpages, the owner, Marilyn H. left herself very high marks (she gave her business 5 stars). That right there should tell a lot and accounts for her high rating. Beware that she overbooks, does not know how to groom, has lost 5 employees and is trying to train new ones when she does not even know how to groom properly. I used to be a loyal customer and then she went rapidly down hill. She lied to us several times and my dogs were tramitized by the last (very last) visit ever. I used to recommend her to people and what is more funny, I even stood up for her business when people would tell me their horror stories about their pet's experience. I guess she was lucky to have the best groomer I ever met but when he left......it went downhill from there. BEWARE! read more
