Okay it's been 10 years and it's time for an update. First of all, I pretty much stopped coming here for several years as I just didn't enjoy it at all so after striking out at two other grocery stores looking for puff pastry a few days before Christmas, this was my last shot before I threw in the towel. As I pulled in I had no expectations and if anything just figured it wouldn't be great based off of previous visits a decade ago. All that to be said, when I walked in I was pleasantly surprised by the updated look of the place. They've obviously put some effort into modernizing the store and it showed. I made my way over to where pie crusts are and voila, there she was, my puff pastry! Only a few left but I found it and was elated. Checkout was a breeze and while this store isn't as convenient to me as it was a decade ago, it's good to know it's around and that it does deliver when you are in a pinch. read more

went in to pick up some pork chops a couple weeks ago. while I was on my way to the self checkout, a cashier emerged from behind her register and physically blocked my path to the self checkouts, and insisted on checking me out. she said she didn't want me to "have to" use the self checkout and did not elaborate further. very distressing to be forced into an encounter with an associate, as someone who dislikes socializing and would rather just get my items and leave. read more

I wouldn't suggest this service at least at this Price Chopper, I'm thinking they started pretty much when I arrived. Do the Walmart app to order your groceries, the pick-up time is spot on and they deliver it to your car! read more

I love love love the produce section now that it has been remodeled! Everything is so bright, clean and well organized! The employees have always been very cheerful and helpful when I have been in as well. This is my go to store if I just need to pop in and out for an item or two but with the updates in the produce section, I'm sure I'll be visiting more frequently! read more

I have been with this Pharmacy for over 20 years and I am sad to say that I now have to leave because I was told they would not fill a prescription of mine that changed from Dec 29th being a non preferred drug to a tier 3 drug with a 3 month supply costing me $25 with my current insurance. The Pharmacist told me they would not fill the prescription because they would loose money on it. After more than 20 years of profit on my prescriptions, they will now loose me and my family because my insurance changed to my benefit and they do not want my business. Very sad that I have to find another Pharmacy, but I guess I have to make the same decision they have made. They do not want to fill one of my prescriptions but still want the other 7 prescriptions. I tried to address this with management with no response. The staff has always been friendly and helpful, and I will miss them. read more

Recently I had to pick up some items for a luncheon gathering on Sunday May 31st. The meal plan called for baked lasagna and Caesar salad with others of us bringing various side dishes and culinary accoutrements. We each volunteered to bring various items from a prepared list for our luncheon. I chose dessert and offered to bring several kinds. I selected baked goods because I have a bit of experience in selecting tasty examples of the pie variety. It was Thursday May 28th and I was out running errands anyway so I thought it would be a good time to pick up my choices since I was in the vicinity anyway. I stopped by Price Choppers at 87th and Antioch to pick up several pies for the occasion, one cherry and one apple. Arriving at the bakery department there was quite a selection of baked goods but after a bit I selected what I thought were outstanding examples of both pastries. After paying for the items i checked out and went home. I didn't refrigerate the two items because they were left in their respective sealed packages. Besides I remember my grandmother baking pies and putting them in a pie safe sometimes for well over a month in the summer. Fruit pies and canned jellies are not subject to bacteria spoilage as in the case of raw fruit. As long as they are stored in a dust free environment, they are fine. Dust causes poisonous growths in uncovered jams and jellies. The pies were loaded into my automobile and I left early Sunday morning for the luncheon arriving at my destination in about two hours. S I brought them into our gathering all seemed well. Somewhere after one we finally got to dessert. I asked to hjave a piece of the cherry pie I brought. One of the young ladies sliced the pie and I removed a piece. One of the ladies next to me started to get a piece when she asked what was this dark object next to the piece I had just gotten. Examining it a bit closer, it looked to be mold. We quickly checked the apple pie and it too was showing small spots of green mold. I was both surprised and embarrassed because I had never seen pie that was sealed grow mold. See the attached photos of the two pies. It occurred to me that Price Chopper's bakery was not handling their product very carefully because mold doesn't grow overnight so these pies were contaminated before they were ever packaged. When I returned to the Overland Park location where I purchased them and told the bakery what I found,they made no effort to even apologize. The woman behind the counter just blabbed some meaningless nonsense and made no offer to refund my purchase price. It's little, and might need a face lift. But I give it creds for finding spaghetti sauce that I've looked for for over 8 weeks, in several large grocery stores throughout my area. Not being used to smaller type grocery stores, I was kind of surprised when I walked into the store, and after seeing the produce, which is bright and pretty, I noticed small aisles, and some things lacking. (I went looking for a common vitamin, and I was surprised it wasn't there.) But then I had an idea to walk down the pasta aisle, and there it was. Luigi's pasta sauce, after an 8 week search. Sara D. was with me, and I told her, "I have a baking book where I have to measure my eggs, and the cakes require a certain sugar." She probably thought it was nuts, but, hey, I gave it a shot...heck, they had the sauce I was looking for. There it was, in the sugar aisle: Baking, Superfine Sugar! Take that Hy-vee! I grabbed 2 cartons. We had a look around the rest of the store, and I was unimpressed. Dullness. The check out lines seemed long, but when I went to pay, I didn't have much of a wait. The checker bagged both jars of sauce, and both cartons of sugar in the same plastic bag. When we walked out, we walked out of a completely different door. Lost my car, I must say. We realized we walked out of the wrong door, which is oddly placed. The parking lot was 2 part, and I didn't realize it. I was in a completely different part of the parking lot. *for the pharmacy* Like those in most supermarkets, the pharmacy in this Price Chopper is very small. But they always make an effort to get me the lowest prices - be it seeking out coupons online for me, or calling the doctor to get an alternative - and that sort of care and detail has earned my respect and business, despite the fact that the much bigger pharmacies around me might be faster. I am completely at loss for words as to why this grocery store is as highly rated on Yelp as it is. 2 stars is quite generous in my opinion and they only get the extra star because some of their employees are nice. First and foremost, I have to mention that the store manager who works in the evenings is a good example of a bad employee. This fellow has worked there for at least a decade and is probably a Price Chopper institution by now, but he needs to take a Management 101 course. Unfortunately, on more than one occasion, I have witnessed him yelling at/berating employees in front of customers. Not cool, dude. It's unsettling to customers and I feel really bad for the employees who must suffer the indignity of this foul man's behavior. Secondly, despite their renovation a few years back, this store is visually unappealing, poorly laid out and always has a grimy feeling. It's just not pleasant to shop here. Thirdly, the selection is awful. I always kick myself when I stop in here and don't find what I'm looking for. I should know better by now. The latest foolhardy stop was for coffee. What a dismal selection. I was hoping for Roasterie or Parisi (which they don't have) but would have settled for any decent coffee. They had none. They also have a crappy selection of frozen veggies and their produce department is one of the worst I've ever wasted time in. Finally, why do the people who shop at this store make their own ridiculous parking spaces along the curbs (that are painted yellow)? Are these people really so freaking lazy that they cannot be bothered to find a real parking spot that won't pose a driving hazard to other customers?? This store is often on my way to or from stuff which is why I occasionally find myself here, but it's rarely a fruitful endeavor. Solid second-choice grocery store... I used to shop here a lot when it was our closest option to home. Now, I still occasionally hit Price Chopper when I don't want to march the vast expanse of the new Hy-Vee on 95th. Good things: They have this 5 for $25 meat thing in the coolers. Various cuts of meats at a discount price if you buy 5 total units (mix and match). You can often find $8 roasts, etc. in there, creating a nice savings opportunity. It seems like they usually have at least one really good deal on fruit. I've found grapes for less than a buck a pound. Pints of blueberries for less than $1.50. Etc. It's hit or miss, but there's usually something good happening in that department. It's efficient. It's a full-sized store, but it isn't oversized. If you just need an assortment of basics, it's a quicker trip than you'd make elsewhere. Not-so-good things: The checkout help can be iffy. Many of the folks are super nice and efficient. Some of the others act as if they're involuntarily completing some kind of community service work. Don't try to predict the checker's behavior based on appearance, though. Some of the younger, scruffier kids are the nicest/fastest. Selection is limited. It's a smaller store, so you can't always find exactly what you want. The bakery doesn't compare to the bigger stores in the area. The selection of fancy cheeses is small. You get the idea. Recommendation: Get one of their Price Chopper cards so you can qualify for the sales prices. If you don't get one, just say you forgot yours and the checker will probably run one for you. I really like this grocery store. It isn't the best in the world, but it gets the job done and has a certain neighborhood feel that I like. It isn't new or all that big (not small, either) and could use a little sprucing up but I can get what i need and not hate my time doing it. First up, the selection is just fine. Store/bargain brand, major name brands, maybe a high end brand. Not likely going to have really out there things or super specific specialty brands, but not many stores really do. The massive HyVee down the street probably doesn't offer a ton more variety of groceries than they have here, in the grand scheme of things. The produce seems pretty solid and I've never had issues with it or the meat department products. That is usually my #1 pet peeve and I've never had a problem with anything I've gotten here. It's not a huge selection in both areas, but gets me what I need. The pharmacy is excellent. The people that work there are very fast, friendly and helpful. They've filled prescriptions for me when they were technically closed and done everything they can to get the best prices for me on things. I would not go anywhere else for pharmacy needs. The staff that I've encountered are always super friendly and chatty. Several people there recognize us and say hi and make us feel totally welcome. They have a lot of young cashiers and kids that seem like they'd be flighty or disinterested or ignore you to talk to their coworker/friend but that is never the case. They are fast, friendly and seem to really enjoy working there. They are some of the peppiest cashiers I've seen in my life. My biggest knocks on the place would be that the store is just a little blah (especially compared to something like HyVee down the street which is like a palace of groceries). Little dated, kind of floursecenty blah... Also, not really the store's fault, but the parking is a little irritating. Mostly the people that park along the yellow painted curbs in the drive areas. THAT'S NOT A PARKING SPOT! More irritating is that they park there instead of legit parking spots that every bit as close to the door as their non-spot. Also, they have recently (as far as i know anyway) started selling some pita chips in the produce/deli area called Q's Pita Chips that are apparently only sold at Queen's Price Choppers. Seems like a store from the 60's which is okay with me. There deli is one of the main reasons I like shopping there, also the bakery has a nice selection of pies and desserts. Compared to a lot of stores down South in small town this is an improvement and reminds me of the first supermarkets we saw in the 50's. read more

I get my prescriptions filled at Queen's Pharmacy inside Queen's Price Chopper, and I am grateful for the professional and helpful pharmacists there. Celtina and her crew greet me by name, and it makes me feel like they appreciate my business. They make sure I get the right dosage and best price on my prescriptions, and they were able to get my preferred eye drops when larger pharmacies could not. I highly recommend this pharmacy. I really had no idea how to rate this store. I really only started shopping here for the convenience of the location, and I still go out of my way to other stores a lot. Produce can be a bit hit or miss, although it seems to be improving, and their bakery just can't compete with other stores in the area. If you like recycled paper products or natural fragrances in your cleaning products, this is not your best bet. It generally feels a little a little the worse for wear. On the other hand, the staff are friendly and helpful, and if you aren't hooked on fresh bread, they probably have all the basics covered. I would still probably skip it except for quick runs when we've run out of something, except for one thing: the pharmacy is excellent. Really, really above average. I've had way more experience with pharmacies than I ever wanted, and a good pharmacist can be as important (and hard to find) as a good doctor. I like the hours and the automated refills systems at some other pharmacies better, but I wouldn't trade the actual expertise and assistance that you can get here. There's no one perfect grocery store in the area, and this one has a really valuable asset in the pharmacy. It's a fine neighborhood store, a good place to get the basics, and a great place to find a helpful pharmacy. read more

The store is very close to my home so I can shop there and the prices are so reasonable. I love buying my groceries there verses any other place. The staff is very friendly and I am always supported greatly if I need any help finding items. The efficiency is very timely. Only one issue that ever bothers me is that double door lobby area. The smell is always so horrible and the carpet looks like it's been there for years on end. Almost smells like dirty feet if not bad odor gas. Needs to be updated for sure. Other then that, I enter at both doors with friendly welcomes. read more

I have been going to this store since it opened. Always been pleased but now we have new people and the produce department is awful. It isn't clean, old produce and something flying around the onions. Maybe fruit flies but this has been going on for about 6 weeks now. I have told the produce manager but nothing is done about it. Bens are not clean. I have never seen it this bad. Poorly stocked and a lot of dried up stuff, like corn in husks and the green beans. Some bens have nothing in them. Shelves are stocked good and never see the manager. I don't want to but until something is done, I will be shopping elsewhere. read more

LOL what a joke, just called in the store to find out if they had wet food called "Three Dog Bakery". The girl that answered took the information and transferred me to Kenny. I told him what I was looking for and he said "Well I don't know if we have that" LOL so I said who in your store would, he transferred me to the floral dept. and she said nope not me. She transferred me to someone that sounded like Kenny but I am not sure. He immediately said "Nope we don't have it" I said what was it you were looking for again, LOL ohhh this is funny but sad, he said something like three wet dogs. What a joke. I just wanted to write and share a shopping experience with you, one I am still having troubles with. I was shopping at the 119th and Metcalf store in Overland Park, KS and needed to use the bathroom. I had a sub-sandwich in my hands form the Deli area and didn't want to take it into the restroom, worried it might get contaminated by germs that grow more frequently in the bathroom areas. A man was walking into the bathroom and saw me return the sandwich to the shelf just before he entered and I didn't think anything of it and went in after he did to use the restroom facility. When I returned to the deli area to pick up my sandwich, (after using the bathroom,) the man who entered the restroom before me was standing right in front of the sandwich shelf. The comfort zones in a situations like this is very sensitive and is more insecure, with feelings still connected to the bathroom area. So I turned and went looking for something else in the produce department. I waited for about 2 to 3 minutes, thinking this would be enough time for this man to have purchased his stuff form the deli and move on, but when I returned he was still there standing in front of the deli sandwiches. I thought the time taken for his shopping was odd, but I didn't want to waste any more of my own time, so I reached into between where he was standing and the shelf and grabbed a sandwich. Again the comfort zone associated with the bathroom was still there and I felt uneasy, like the area was filthy and not clean enough for food to be prepared and served. I was still OK with this and decided to go purchase my sub, and then I things started getting real creepy. The same man who went into the bathroom and stood in front of the sub shelf started following me, like he was stocking my. I was starting to freak out and was just about to make a scene in the checkout line when he turn into to follow me there. I was about to say something aloud like, 'why are you following me around the store,' so everyone could hear me and so he would know his stocking wasn't at all welcomed. I didn't though. I waited until after I bought my sub and drove away in my car. Here I called the store manager and told him everything that had just happened. I told him about the coincidence amid the bathroom area, the strange stance he gave near the shelves of subs and the awkward trail between the deli and checkout line. I told the manager that I feel this behavior isn't appropriate in a pubic setting and I felt threatened by his assertion. The store manager was very nice and listened to my story. I think that he believed me and could relate to my feeling even though it could have seemed minor to him and he gave me the social comfort I needed in a time like this one. Today, a day later I made an effort to confront this situation and to show that I wasn't damaged by yesterday's weirdo, I returned to the Price Choppers on 119th and Metcalf in Overland Park, KS. The experience was a little Leary at first, but I confronted my fears and walked into your store through the automatic double sliding doors at the store front. I felt the situation form yesterday was still present, but probably only in my mind and not for real and I made it through the entire shopping experience and through the checkout line without totally freaking out. I won and I'm not suffering any longer from, PWSMS, (Post Weird Social Man Syndrome!) This is a really nice grocery store. Everyone there is really nice and super caring. A lot of workers are teenagers from the local high schools who are trying to make easy money. Every time i go in the store i get a old school feel, and it doesn't help with all the old elders shopping. Many people who reviewed this store say that it a second fave and that its a quick stop shop and how its boring but the loyal elder customers that have shopped there for years love it. Which is why i feel that the store still has customers. One day i was behind a elder who literally complain about the new Hyvee and how its to big and how the price are way to high. I love the new Hyvee and couldn't believe it but it is so true. Hyvee gets all the love and good reviews because its built for the modern generation. The store is trying. Now they have a more organic section for everyone and plastic bag recycling. The store delivers groceries to anyone with a $5 delivery fee. All the managers are really nice and make sure that your taking care of. And the store does match price with competitors if u bring there ad in but it is not a store you can just take advantage of and just try to get low prices without and ad. The store always has nice promotions for there customers i remember some months ago a SaraLee worker was giving away free bread to customers walking in and out. They also had literally on Saturday a KC pride promotion where they gave burnt ends and pull pork sandwiches away just for 2 dollars. They are also always ready for any and every holiday literally a month before it. All in all this place is not a 2 star grocery store. Especially now that they got rid of the 30 year old gum ball machine that never worked. read more
