Prima Classe is the place to go if you are looking for high quality Italian ingredients and a simple salad or sandwich. They have fresh croissants and pastries available in the mornings and fresh bread throughout the day. You'll be hard pressed to get a better cappuccino or (non-Cuban) coffee in the area. There is table service or a small to-go counter that you pay at. The staff is always extremely friendly, but service can take awhile as they handle both indoor and outdoor tables. The environment is a casual local coffee shop vibe, but the ingredients are premium. The market area offer some of my favorite Italian cookies, olive oils, and dried goods. I am writing again because the owner does not seem to accept my feedback. On several occasions, some of the waitresses selected a tip without my authorization when charging my card. The system offers tip options (15% / 20% / 25%), but instead of allowing the customer to choose, they preset the final amount, leaving no possibility to select or decline the tip. The owner, Paolo, replied that this is hard to believe, but this is not the first time it has happened. I have already spoken to the waitresses about it, yet some of them continue to do the same. Everything is tasty, great atmosphere and the service is nice, BUT: They use unfair, sneaky and illegal billing practices. Today I discovered some pretty sucky billing practices that made me changed my mind about coming back here: 1. They bill their built-in 20% Tip on a GROCERY ITEM (olive oil in my case). That's just illegal. 2. They charged 50% more the cost of a little toast ($12 instead of $8) when asked to substitute the Ham with hard boiled egg. The waitress did not mention the extra $4 charge when she took the order with my request to Substitute. 3. They charged $1.5 extra when asked to put a splash of oat milk in my double espresso, taking the cost from $4.25 to $5.75. Again, no mention to that when taking the order. We passed this café a couple of times before deciding to go in. Parking was a bit scarce especially on a busy Sunday morning. Breakfast was well underway and the brunch crowd was beginning to stir. We found a good parking spot around the corner that wasn't too far away. There are a few tables lining the street mixed in with a couple high-tops to choose from. My first choice was the high-top at the very end in front of the door but my husband wanted to dine inside. We seated ourselves and were greeted right away. The inside of the café has a few tables. The tables are set very close together so be prepared to dine with others who are not in your party. It's intimate, cozy, and family-friendly. They sell wine by the bottle and offer a decent size alcohol menu. They also sell grocery items such as pastas, coffee, jarred truffles. I ordered a croissant with butter and was I was given a side of jam to try. It was tasty. Not too sweet and not overbearing with artificial flavoring. The thing that earned them 1 star is their practice to not disclose a 18 percent table service fee. It only becomes apparent after you tipped them. So basically they turn a 28 dollar bill into 43 dollars with this extra hidden charge. Service was also good. Advertised u sweet black tea and came with a bottle of artificially sweetened and flavored tea. How's that work. And then I had to debate with the ladies that that's not what I ordered. Their salume and cheeses can be purchased in various combinations to eat in (which includes crostini as well as olive oil & balsamic as condiments) or to go. The fennel salami is extra amazing, but judge for yourself: employees are generous with providing free samples. In addition to the cafe fare, Prima Classe sells a small but high quality selection of baked goods/desserts - breads, cannoli, tiramisu - as well as dried pasta, jarred sauce, italian condiments, and wine. Everything I've tried so far - meats, cheeses, tiramisu, wines - have been fantastic and not overpriced (esp for the beach).
