Now I graduated from the high school across the street 2 years ago. For my first two years there I was a little skeptical about this place I was like hmmm is it really that good, it gets too packed, etc. Until one day after school a friend offered to buy me a sandwich from there he was really cool with the owner, Miguel. So I went and he got me the Whole 9 Yards without egg cause I'm allergic. Oh god it was to die for ! I was hooked. After this I went to this place regularly. I tried not to go during lunch time because of how packed it would get with students. I started trying new things getting a strawberry smoothie, a blended iced mocha, a blended iced coffee, a brownie with ice cream and everything was always amazing. Now the staff is wonderful! They're the sweetest people ever! By my junior year of high school I had to walk a few blocks to get to one of my classes so I stopped here daily and Miguel got to know me. Everyday they expected a call from me with my order, Miguel even learned it by memory as soon as he heard my voice on the phone he would just say my order to me. Whenever I walked in he would greet me with "Hey Amiga!" He would ask me how was school and crack jokes with me. If I came in during lunch rush hour he would see me and immediately take my order before others I can't lie it was a good perk being friends with him but I wasn't the only one many students had a good relationship with him and it was better to keep it that way or else you'd be waiting for your lunch the whole 40 minutes! But anyways now that I've graduated and I live like 30 minutes away I miss it so much. This is a good place for a quick bite and it's not expensive ! They have a menu fit for all tastes ! And if you have a sweet tooth I promise their selection of sweets will amaze you. Being one of those people trust me I always left there with some sort of sweets in my hands along with my sandwich and smoothie. I hope your experience is, or was just as good as mine! read more

I went to Oakland Tech during last summer to only attend summer school over there. I am constantly reminded by my peers (I'm an O-High student, sorry!) that Tech has off-campus lunch. I went off-campus to browse around the nearest restaurants that were available so I wouldn't have to walk too far away from the school. I saw a Burger King joint right before me, and a Subway. I then noticed other kids around me who had sandwiches in their hands. If they had a sandwich, I would immediately assume it would be Subway because it's RIGHT. THERE. But apparently, the sandwiches did not have the iconic Subway paper wrapping. I soon later discovered that these kids bought the sandwiches from Primavera, a little joint that tries to serve breakfast, lunch, and typical liquor store items. I stepped in and was amazed. They buy their foods/beverages from Costco, but try to make it feel homey. All the Tech kids are regulars, of course. So the guy in the front of the store knows exactly what they want, and the lady in the back of the store is making sandwiches or brewing coffee. I ordered a Tuna Melt (x2), Regular Tuna sandwich, and the Chicken Parmesan sandwich alongside a simple Milk Tea with Boba (x4), and Garden Salsa Sun Chips (x3). The tuna melt was amazing, and it was complimented by a drizzle of honey mustard. The regular tuna sandwich was alright, although I didn't ask for onions but the lady placed it onto my sandwich anyways. But I highly suggest to NOT buy the chicken Parmesan sandwich. It is NOT worth! You may assume that they would bring out a chicken breast cutlet that was covered in breadcrumbs with Parmesan cheese, but it turns out that it's just a slice of chicken breast (the sandwich slices kind) covered in bitter tomato sauce with something that doesn't even look like Parmesan cheese. Do not be deceived. Order a different kind of sandwich. But otherwise, they make their hot and ready sandwiches to order. Their Milk Tea with Boba was alright, but the lady puts too much ice so be aware, or your milk tea will be extremely watery. Oh, I also forgot to mention that the guy in the front "sort-of" deceives newcomers to the little joint. Apparently, my newly-made friend (who is a real deal Tech student) told me that they do not charge tax with their food. I went in, and bought what I wanted to eat/drink but he CHARGED me every single time I stepped in. If they apparently don't charge tax, then why did he had to charge me? Don't let the guy at the front get a bit of extra money out of your buck. It's just unfair to do that to a brand new customer. I didn't like the guy in the front of the store, but I enjoyed the lady in the back for her hardwork and dedication when it comes to doing a bunch of sandwich orders. She always greet me with a smile, and a "honey, what would you like?" when I used to walk in. +1 extra star because her smile saved me. (And she knew I wanted milk tea. :D) read more

I must have passed by this place over a 100 times while going to the Pet Store next door. What always catches my attention is the Industry supplied and oh so inappropriate window posters showing what a properly cooked bagel should look like. I am pretty sure that poster was intended for internal use at a bagel making facility to teach people when to a bagel is ready----hence the words "target colour" on the poster-----I still find it cute/amusing that Primavera uses this poster as their window dressing. I am a window menu reader and have always noted that the prices are incredibly cheap------I guess the reason why I never tried this place was low expectations, my odd hours and probably most relevant, at my age, I really don't want to have to deal with 100s of ill mannered Oakland Tech kids---- well, after a Sunday pet store visit, I said to myself, School is out, and this week will be the one when I finally try this place---- I am glad I did. first thing, things are cheap, like $3.50 for a veg sandwich, $2.50 for an egg and cheese bagel- second thing, there is absolutely nothing special, unique, of the products/ingredients they use and the way things are made (as I expected, their eggs are cooked in a mircowave)-----they use store bought rolls, non-artisan cheeses, meats---their vegitables are not Organicaly grown----nothing here is sustainable or green-----the rolls/bread probably arent' daily fresh as they are re-heated the thing is, with the entire ball of wax, appearing to be a product which any average schmuck could make at home as good or likely better-----there is something about what Primavera makes that tastes good----my boring Veggie sandwich on a re-heated and slightly burned rolll was tasty and after I was done, I wanted another one. the egg bagel , well was OK----I can make a better egg, as I have a mircowave, but for $2.50, it becomes a question if it is worth the trouble to do it at home since $2.50 is so cheap----no clean-up needed. So, as I am typing, I just realized, I have written a incredibly long review for a place as simple as Primavera. As simple as it is, it is just like something your mom would have made you....you know, there are so many things which we eat now, that just don't taste as good as when your mother used to make them for you------Primavera is just like what mom used to make---that is why I think you should go----for me, I am checking off the number of days before Oakland Tech starts back, so I can re-visit as much as possible. read more

Best sandwiches in Oakland! Breakfasts too! I eat there at least 3 times a week. Just don't order the salads. They drown the lettuce in sickeningly sweet dressings. Also, don't arrive between 12:45 and 1:45 as the high school invades and it is packed! REALLY good though. Fresh everything made to order. read more

BOTTOM LINE AT THE TOP: This cheap sandwich shack is a great stop on your lunch break. This cutty little hole-in-the wall, is the best kept secret on Broadway! Nice people horrible food! I have no clue how this establishment has 4 and a half stars. That extra half star makes a big difference in my decision making process and this place doesn't deserve it. I would have given it 3 stars if the rating was more accurate since it was not a accurate rating I gave it the lowest rating to try to bring the 4 and a half rating closer to reality. Okay I've never left a review for a place before, but Primavera went so far beyond my expectations that I just simply need to talk about it. This is 100% that hole-in-the-wall deli that becomes your regular spot. Like other reviewers have said, even if the sandwich somehow turned out awful, going in to talk to the family who runs the establishment is totally worth it. But the best part is, the sandwich is SPECTACULAR! I had a hot pastrami & swiss on a roll with everything and a bag of chips. The order came to $6.45. Can't beat it. You just simply cannot get better than this place. And that's coming from someone who just recently tried the delicious food over at Genova for the first time. I pick Primavera hands down. read more

Even though they use both, you'll only be left with a "golden sweetness" that lingers in your mouth that taste nothing like your average mayo/mustard. So my co worker has been raving about this place so much so that I had to try it for myself. What she did tell me: the food is good, the price is awesome and the portions are filling. What she didn't tell me: how inviting the staff is and not to mention hilarious! This place is the BOMB! I ordered the Chinese chicken salad ($6.00) and the fruit bowl ($2.50) no tax!!!!! This salad is amazing. I have never had a Chinese chicken salad so I don't have a comparison. The flavors are so explosive and its plenty to eat. I love this place. I went to Oakland Tech 10 years ago and I still go there and order the turkey sandwich with a Honey Dew smoothie. I have weekly cravings for this and I can't always make it before they close because they close early and closed weekends. This is one of the best deli's , my favorite place for a sandwich other than Safeway lol.  Their bagel with bacon is also tasty, I would say check that out too if you come visit. This place is great, especially for the price. The employees were nice and kind to EVERYONE, treating all their customers the respect they deserved. I ordered half a salad and half a sandwich, and their fresh cut fruit (I picked strawberries and pineapple). I ordered the plain, toasted turkey sandwich with everything on it and it was delicious and half a chicken ceasar salad. My only complaint is they drowned my salad in dressing but that is easily fixed by just asking for dressing on the side. They have smooties, boba tea, candy, chips, fruit, snacks! I always order the Turkey Bacon Avocado Sandwich. I'm not a sandwich kind of girl - but dude, I swear this is one of the ONLY sandwich I'll eat! Perfect portion of meat, lettuce, and avocado. I just recently graduated from college, but I've been a fan of this place since freshmen year in high school (the school is right across this deli shop!). The owners are extra friendly - she still remembers me after all these years! And better yet, the sandwiches are decently priced - you'll hardly find any sandwich more expensive than 5 dollars! For breakfast, you can order sausage egg croissant. The croissant is warm and chewy, and everything is delicious when combined. Perfect quick stop for breakfast or lunch, or just a snack. I really wanted to like this place because of the reviews and its proximity to my house, but the turkey on my sandwich was spongy, watery, turkey flavored grossness that is probably packed with nitrates (no, I do not know what those really are - but I know I don't want them). I looove this place. When I first started going to Oakland Tech, this was the first place I went to. I got a BLT and it was delicious. The people who own the place are veeeeeeery friendly and nice. And they like to make jokes too. The sandwiches are amazing, and so are the salads. My favorite sandwiches are the BLT, Hot link sandwich w/ bbq sauce, and a egg salad sandwich w/ bacon.
