Such a cute cafe with a parking lot for convenience and a bit of indoor and outdoor seating. I'm already a fan of the SF location at the ferry building. But I like this place so much more. Lots of baked treats to choose from and an appetizing menu of hot food items and beverages. This past Saturday, I went with the bacon olive & cheese spiral and mariposa mcbiscuit with bacon. The pastry was warm and fluffy, and full of flavor. And that breakfast sandwich was made perfectly and so satisfying with the light buttery biscuit, gooey melted cheese, thick scrambled egg patty, and crispy savory bacon. A couple weeks ago, I had picked up a pre-packaged set of chocolate chip cookies here as well and was concerned about a nut allergy, as they do serve almonds in some of their products at this facility. But the worker assured me thay they clean everything out between cooking the nut-free products, making me feel more comfortable and appreciative of this place.

Finally got to try gluten free bakery. I got 2 cupcakes. The taste was to die for! The texture was a bit hard. I wasn't sure if I should have leave them at room temp for a bit. They were the right texture after being at room temp for a while. I also got some frozen bear-claws . Good amount of almond paste. It wasn't flaky but more like bread texture which I didn't care for but my girl loved it. Will definitely come back for more goodies.

I'm a sucker for cute cafés and coffee shops. When I was walking around the area, I stumbled across this adorable bakery, I definitely had to check it out! The decor and overall vibe were super cute. As I looked around, I did notice the prices were a bit on the higher side, but everything looked so good from the display. There was a variety of pastries on display. It was so hard to make a decision since they all looked delicious! I ended up getting a pumpkin-filled pastry and an iced dragonfruit matcha which totaled up to $15. The cafe was limited on table seating but I was lucky enough to find a seat. The worker there was kind enough to bring my drink to my table so I was able to enjoy my drink while relaxing in my seat. I also found a small table outside and sat down for a little bit. I love how the establishment is surrounded by a few murals. 5 stars for the service, the delicious drink, decor and pastries. I will definitely come back to try out their other drinks and purchase more goodies.

Cute bakery with great selection a little north of Temescal. I stopped by on a weekday afternoon around 3 pm to pick up some pastries for snacking. I loved the decor inside, which had been updated to reflect fall. Lots of orange everywhere which was lovely. I didn't sit down but they have some seats and tables where folks were chilling or working. My friend told me the yummy tarts are popular here, so I got the flavor of the day which was wild blueberry for $6.50 and had it a couple hours later. It was like a pop tart but fancier and took me back to my childhood. They also offer a good selection of breakfast and lunch items. All of their other baked goods looked amazing as well. I'd love to come back and try some of their other stuff!

Finding a bakery offering vegan cakes is very challenging. Mariposa offer primary gluten free bake goods. Luckily they have two cakes that are vegan. I ordered one for my GF's birthday to be pick up on Labor Day Monday, fortunately they are opened on this holiday. Since it was my first visit, I was not aware that it's located on the back side of a parking lot. Walking in it's definitely a bakery with friendly staff and many interesting bake goods and food. I had a turkey sandwich and ice tea; and my packaged vegan chocolate birthday cake. It was a very warm day and the ice tea was very refreshing and the turkey sandwich would be more satisfying with more dressing. As the day progressed and birthday celebration, the cake was a big hit. It was very dense rich in chocolate flavor. It was enjoyed by everyone.

At last! A gluten free bakery with actual delicious goodies! Unbelievable how good their baguettes are! I also highly recommend this bakery. They carry a lot of gf items that are hard to find if not impossible. They have gf croutons and breadcrumbs! The staff is helpful, should you have any questions. You can also take advantage of their cafe deli and sit to enjoy your meal.

So much variety! I haven't seen some of these gluten free products anywhere so I was very excited to buy what I could! The chicken wrap (seasonal) was so good. Pita was a bit tough but I was just happy to have a pita!! The steak and onion sandwich (cliffhanger maybe?) had a great combo of flavors but it was more 80% onion and 20% meat so a little more balance would be good. The cinnamon rolls are amazing!!!!

I went here for breakfast and to pick up some items for Christmas. The artichoke melt was so good! The bread was great and the flavors were well balanced. We picked up a cheesecake, which was so good, especially the crust. We also got cornbread muffins which were good, they weren't too sweet or anything. We also got plain bagels which were also very good. I will definitely go again. Parking lot was a little full, but it was the day before Christmas so I'm unsure if that's typical.

Dedicated gluten free bakery (and many other common allergy free items) with really good flavor and texture. Love getting the baguettes and cinnamon rolls.

The Mariposa Baking Company is a fabulous gluten free bakery that also sells very clever tee shirts! A few years ago, I purchased a Gluten Freak tee, that folks on the street and even on the subway, stop to photograph! Although, I live in New York City, I have family in Oakland and love to visit and shop here. I recently bought the most delicious donuts and chocolate chip cookies!

My sister has a gluten intolerance and we happened to find Mariposa Baking Company. I've never been to a dedicated gluten free bakery before and boy was I pleasantly surprised. They had so many gluten free things from chocolate chip cookies (which were so yummy and did not taste gluten free) to breads, empanadas, and ravioli and pastas. We ordered a scone and cinnamon roll and both were delicious. We also ordered a reuben sandwich and a bacon arugula pizza. Everything was so yummy and the service was great! I definitely get why it was so busy and I recommend to anyone with gluten intolerances/ celiacs

the tail end of a molasses cookie
    Nancy M.

I kept hearing about Mariposa and had seen a story on TV about it, so when I was heading across the bridge to visit a friend I planned my trip so I'd be able to stop. I have celiac and one of the things I've missed is patty melts - I was so happy to walk in and see a loaf of "rye" bread! I got that and a molasses cookie (another one of my old favorites). I didn't think to get a picture of the cookie till I had eaten half, but it was all I was hoping for - I should've gotten the bag of several (or not). I had the best time the next day making myself a patty melt!

Sometimes it's good to try something different and a place with some interesting character and characters. I usually get deli sandwiches which have deli meats but this place has fried chicken sandwiches . So I was craving a sandwich so I headed to Crave Subs in Downtown Berkeley next to BART station. They have lots of sandwiches available on the menu. On a Summer stroll getting some sun in Downtown Berkeley I landed at Crave Subs. Inside it's like you stepped into an ice cream parlor with a comic book shop and arcade and a deli all at the same time. You will see sandwiches on the menu called the Pikachu, Ned Flanders, and Bart Simpson. You will see Chewbacca fries along with the Spider-Man fries and the vegan Sailormoon fries. I got the Captain Boom Halal Fried Chicken, Boom Boom Sauce, Cheddar Cheese and Crave Sauce on a roll. It was tasty and a bit crunchy and had lots of flavor. It's one of the best Halal chicken sandwiches I had. If you crave a fried chicken sandwich then Crave Subs is the spot. It will "cost "you an extra 50 cents if you want to "floss" with extra drip "sauce" to show off on social media and during OSL my social media feed was stuck in the" Land of OZ" If you want great fried chicken sandwich you don't need to visit KFC or meet the chicken"commanders" like the late "Colonel Sanders" just get a Captain Boom with "Halal chicken standards" or grab a Pikachu sandwich or a turkey sandwich called the "Ned Flanders "

One of my biggest pet peeves is when restaurants reduce the guality or quantity of their meal to cut costs while charging premium prices. I will say I didn't mind paying a few dollars more for their subs in the past. I went there today for the first time in a couple of years, ordered a regular size basic ruben sandwich (no add-ons) and was ok paying nearly $18 dollars for just the sandwich until they handed it to me. what I got was a small 6" sub. When did their subs shrink?? in this economy we are all struggling. I get it, things cost more but Craves' owner is not doing his patrons a service by charging them premiums while cutting back on the meals. If you're ok paying that much for a shrunken sub, more power to you. I l, however, will not be going back there.

We found it very tasty, but paying over $25 for this on DoorDash--certainly not worth the price even though we really enjoyed it. The spicy chicken parm sandwiches were not good. The chicken breast was flabby, and came across like it was one of those frozen cooked Tyson jobs. I would be very surprised if they actually breaded chicken breast, fried it, and made the sandwich with that. It was mushy, and the breading was like paste on the chicken. Pretty awful. They charge extra for sauce, which is a little much, given that we paid $21 for each sandwich. But we figured out pretty quickly why they do this: there was hardly any sauce on the sandwiches. And precious little cheese. We each ate half of our sandwich and figured we doctor the leftovers up the next day with a jar of Rao's and a bag of shredded Italian cheese. That helped, but nothing could save that chicken. The meatballs. We paid $15 for four, and we had high hopes, but they were so mushy that they fell apart in the sauce, and I couldn't tell what was sauce and what was meatballs. The only flavor that came across was fennel. Why any meatball should be so fennel-forward strikes me as bizarre. We got what we thought were pretty basic things, and they were fails. If an Italian place can't make a decent chicken parm sandwich nor a decent meatball, that says something. If you go, try the pinsa.

Awhile back, I tried to bring as much business to Star Meat as I could because 1. it's a small business and 2. it's inside Star Grocery (which I LOVE, so it's convenient). When I would go there, there would often be 2 or 3 people behind the counter and oftentimes I would be the only customer. I felt like I had to stand there forever before anyone even acknowledged I existed. Each person would be busy doing something, but there was no "I'll be with you in 2 minutes." Finally, I went one day and there were 3 workers behind the counter chatting with each other. I was the only customer and was standing around 6 feet away from them, looking right at them. They went on with there conversation (not doing any other work) for a full 5 minutes. Finally I thought, "OK, they really don't seem to want my business, so I can go to any one of 4 other places and get what I want." That was a year or two ago. So, today I thought, why not give it another try, it's certainly convenient. Again, I'm the only customer at the counter. One guy is washing equipment and two guys are making sandwiches. I know that they know that I'm there, there are mirrors all along the back wall exactly for the purpose of seeing the customers. After around 4 minutes I think, who knows how long I'm going to be standing here. Maybe they have to make 20 sandwiches and I'll be here for a half hour. So, I left. I don't have anything like this experience at the 4 other meat counters I go to in the area. I'm totally fine waiting if I have some sense that I'm waiting for a purpose and that the worker will get to me as soon as they can. But at Star Meat, it feels like I'm more of an inconvenience than a customer. "Hi, I'll be with you as soon as I can," goes a long way.
