It's a quaint NYC, Chitown hole in the wall with a few tables to allow for eat in. It felt like I was transported back to a pizza place in the 70s family run where everyone knows your name. The owner was initially there by herself. What looked like her son came in later. She was very nice and checked on us a couple of times to make sure we had everything we needed. As I pulled in, I noticed the Mountain Dew umbrellas--a classic sign of a great hole-in-the-wall joint. My partner and I have been traveling for a few weeks and came into Charlotte, ended up in Mathews. Needless to say, I was starving. We decided to dash for a little bit to grab some grub; I was after a good cheese steak, but - unfortunately, everything within distance was closed. I saw the sign "Pizza" on the street and swung right in with no hesitation. There I went into this place I was welcomed by a, broken English heavy Italian accented middle-aged lady. I told them I was hungry; she showed me a menu - I was keen on the cheesesteak, but for the price, and it is a pizza place. I ordered the stromboli. Now, I am a bit of a picky pizza eater. It is really hard to meet my standards completely; I like that light but crispy crust. Often, in every pizza place I go to, I always request it extra well or well done. This time, I forgot, but - I told my partner I'm gonna take a chance this time. It took about twenty or so minutes then I was ready. I got it to go, and as soon I got it back to the car, I was excited to tear my brown bag open; here's how it went. I was presented with a brown paper bag with the stromboli wrapped hot in foil. When I opened the foil, the most amazing aroma of tomatoes, cured meats, and veggies. I wasn't entirely sure what was in the stromboli, I asked for everything. What I am sure of is that first bite. I know it may seem like a total exaggeration, but - I could taste this family's entire heritage. I could taste the hard work and the past down recipes. The crust was so light but crispy without a single burn mark. The toppings were stuffed and perfectly cooked through. Then there's the sauce. This is not an out-of-the-can sauce, which some people might argue San Marano from the Can is the only way to go. In my opinion, it's the family's traditional recipes that are hard to beat. It shows what makes them different. This sauce is beyond what a marinara represents. As for the stromboli as well. What I experienced wasn't your typical chain or basic stromboli and marinara. What I experienced was a taste of this family's legacy. They understand good food and I left one extremely happy customer. read more

Omg!!! This quaint little pizzeria is a piece of Italian heaven. First off it's located in Matthews of all places. No shade but we don't eat in Matthews a lot. Only thing I go there for is Costco's. ‍ So when I found this place it was sooooo worth it. The ambience gives an authentic italian vibe. I ordered s small 12' pizza w/ mushrooms, peppers, and onions and pepperoni and sausage. The sauce is yummy, bold and authentic (house made). The crust was perfectly baked w/a garlic parm crust. I was very impressed, wings came out great and tons of sauce which we loved! Omg omg omg. I've been trying to figure out the right word to describe my experience and I think I came up with something... PHENOMENAL!! I went here not knowing what to expect. I thought it was going to be a typical pizza dining experience, some kind of takeout that I wasn't going to remember. The sign on be outside where they have the other store names just said "Pizza." I looked at the prices and I whispered to myself, "Yikes." Their pizzas were like $15-20 for a large one or two topping so I passed on that. I realized I haven't had an authentic calzone before so I decided on getting the spinach calzone. The woman that asked what I wanted had a very authentic Italian accent- it made me feel like I was in a close-knit family shop that had been in the business for a while :-) The calzone came in this small box and was about $9. A little pricey, but I figured it was going to be good. I opened the box up when I got outside and I saw the size of that thing! It was HUGE. I took a bite with the marinara sauce that they included and it was extremely delicious. The parmesan inside was baked into the cheese and I could definitely taste it through the bread and the spinach. I'm coming back next week and getting the broccoli calzone next, I'm soooo excited to stuff my face again haha. read more

Yesterday my son asked me would it be possible to take him to football practice. I was a little drained so I complained but took him. I realized I had not eaten anything at all and didn't know what I wanted to eat, so I jumped on Yelp and looked for food in the area and I came across Primavera Pizza. The pizza crust tastes like authentic Italian pizza crust (from Italy) with the delicious American style on the rest of the pizza... the pizzas are thin and are in the NY style... they also make homemade ranch which is outstanding.
