We came here by recommendation for the fresh pasta. We ordered it and it was absolutely not home made. I asked and waitress said it was. It's very clear when it's home made or from a box. I went to the sister restaurant a couple of years ago for the fresh pasta, and they didn't have it then either. They should not advertise that they sell it. The pizza tasted exactly like an English muffin. The eggplant was delicious but the rest of the food was not. The service was slow and there was barely anyone there. read more

A beautiful restaurant that offers some live music, karaoke or music bingo some select nights. I happened to learn abt the Frank Sinatra impersonator so I took my dad since we both love his music. The show was awesome and my dad truly enjoyed himself. Service was great but like most places short staffed, I was very tickled at the "robotic" waitress that would bring out the food to each table. This place is great for a girls night, date night or just solo. I had the Angela's Special pizza and it was yummy. My dad got the salmon dish, and then got the salmon pizza to go. We celebrated my Soul Brothers Birthday at Angela's and even though our Rita couldn't be there - the amazing staff and beautiful food did her proud! Truly a wonderful event for our group of 16 on a Friday night. They can definitely host large groups and did an impeccable job I tried to get pictures of all the dishes - omg...the shrimp special and calamari apps? My absolute favorites! Perfectly seasoned and the salt highlighted the calamari, which was tender and fresh. Everyone LOVED handmade pastas/gnocchi and my go-to of Milanese, this time I did veal vs chicken. Tender, cooked perfectly. Beautiful light lemon flavor. The man of the hour had the home made gnocchi and lobster a specialty of Rita and the staff did a wonderful job!! My FAVORITE dessert? I can't click enough stars for this place. We arrived and were graciously greeted and seated Immediately. It's a lovely restaurant, big enough for large parties yet allows for intimate dinning. Though "Angela's" has been around for over a decade it gave a fresh/clean and new vibe. Warm bread and oil was served while we started on our salads. Both of which were huge and very very fresh. The menu had some tempting offerings but we decided to go with the specials that day. We got seasonal pumpkin ravioli, stuffed with ricotta and spinach in a cream sauce. It was absolutely delicious and made right on site. I opted for the prime rib with shrimp and garlic sauce that came with mashed potatoes and grilled green beans. Though we couldn't finish our meals we still ordered a desert to bring home. The owners (from Italy) have an expresso machine and the chef uses fresh expresso to make the Tiramisu. Came here during Charlotte Restaurant Week. We expected this to be a more formal restaurant, but looks can be deceiving. It is fairly informal, kind of a mix between Italian food and a pizzeria. Angela's horribly mismanaged our reservation. Despite contacting us earlier through OpenTable to confirm, Sid, the manager, called us just fourteen minutes before our confirmed reservation (while we were already driving to the restaurant) to inform us that he was closing due to snow. I understand that even a small amount of snow can be a significant problem, but Sid had ample notice--days of advanced forecasting, night-before and day-of alerts, and hours of prior flurries--to clear the books and close the restaurant. Instead, he kept his staff and customers-including the other party he turned away-out in the weather without any practical notice. While I respect the decision to close, I am disappointed by Sid's inconsiderate handling of the situation. Leadership should empower managers like Sid to utilize readily available information to make proactive decisions that prioritize the well-being of their employees and respect their customers. Unfortunately, that didn't happen in this instance. read more

I cannot say enough about Angela's. Top notch customer service and food. As a native New Yorker, I can attest to the deliciousness of the food- equal to what I valued in Italian cuisine in NY, which is no surprise as the owner is from Rome. I had the eggplant parmigiana, and it was perfect. The portion was generous and included pasta and perfectly cooked and flavored vegetables. The eggplant was crisp and double layered with ricotta cheese in the middle- a nice touch. Homemade tiramisu topped off our fabulous meals, which also included chicken parmigiana and "Marry Me Chicken." The latter dish came in a creamy white sauce which I thought my brother-in-law was going to lick off of the plate! We came away feeling pampered and appreciated and ready to return. The décor is clean and crisp with touches of Italy in the artwork. White lights adorned the windows and archways, evincing a magical, cozy atmosphere. To show that Christmas is coming, white and red poinsettias graced each table along with white tablecloths. Our waiter Juan greeted us graciously, and we knew immediately that our experience would be outstanding. Treat yourself to a meal at Angela's. My Husband and I decides to eat at Angelia's. I really never complain but there were several issues, from the lack of no sweet tea and felt like to air conditioning was on 85 degrees to the old bread rolls and the water was hot. Paying extra for shrimp and receiving only five pieces, along with no side items, was very frustrating, especially with a bill of $56.00. I wish I could say it was worth every penny. NOPE! I will continue to spend my money at Carrabba's Italian Grill Matthews. The out-of-season decorations (Christmas & Valentines) probably didn't help either. read more

We've been dining at Angela's for over 25 years as it has been one of the better Italian restaurants in this part of the Matthews - Mint Hill area. Sadly, I feel that the quality of food has diminished in the last 6 months or so. Although their homemade pastas are very nice, the sauces and meats are lacking in boldness and freshness. Idk what happened but my favorite Italian restaurant went downhill. Food does not taste the same. Pizza dough isn't as good as it used to be, pasta now served with bland breadsticks instead of their good Italian bread, sauce has a sweet taste to it, portion size is not worth the price and slow service. Stick with Sicilian Pizza if you decide to come to this establishment. We came during Queens Feast and it certainly was not a Feast. We ordered two of the meals, One was the Gnocchi with Calamari, the Other was the Rib Eye with Mashed Potatoes (not sure why I decided to order that in an Italian place) The Gnocchi's were undercooked and the Calamari was stretchy and very hard to chew. We could not eat it. The Rib Eye was so full of gristle and sitting on a bed of odd tasting mashed potatoes, I had a feeling they were from a box. Neither meal was a 40.00 meal, we were very disappointed. The Pizza I ordered to go was the Sicilian one and it was very thick and delicious. Covered with Cheese and a great sauce. The restaurant industry has taken a major hit. However, you wouldn't notice it based on how you get treated at Angela's. The manager/owner (not sure which he was) explained that they didn't have a server, and that food may take longer to come out. He paced everything perfectly. The timing for the multiple bread baskets, the timing for the food and drinks, refills included, and the preparation of the food. Everything was incredible! Clean restaurant, delicious food, great attention though severely understaffed, and the best cannoli I've ever had to top it all off. No complaints, only compliments! read more

I was down from Buffalo visiting my sisters and we came here for dinner. I was very pleasantly surprised! The selection was bountiful and the service excellent! Our server, Yoselin, was personable, with a wonderful sense of humor and she exhibited a sincere interest in our story. My chicken Marsala was probably the best I've ever had and our drinks were wonderful. Next time I'm down visiting, I will be sure to come here for a meal! read more

Used to be one of my favorite restaurants. We live nearby and ordered several times a month. Visited for Frank Sinatra night and special occasions. I understand that the price of ingredients has increased but that doesn't explain the change. Small portions, no more delicious bread, everything is a la carte. The order when taking out is ALWAYS wrong. The new menu makes it seem as if Angelas is now just a pizza place with very limited other items. Like a previous poster wrote, my favorite restaurant has gone was downhill. We truly hope that you take this review to heart and return to the old Angela's.
