My wife and I are so grateful to have found Dr. Abbassi. We are elderly and require a little more patience for our care and this office has provided that. I am receiving an injection in my eye for an occlusion and my vison has improved quite a bit. I have to admit I was quite nervous about getting an injection in my eye, however, the the procedure is painless. I initially saw dr. Abassi at Kaiser so it's been few years. When he told me a procedure I almost fainted . The thought of getting a shot in my eye seem so horrific and surreal. I have a RETINAL HEMORRHAGE: I was refered to Dr Abassi by Dr Elkins to be seen by Dr Abassi the next day. Dr Abassi told me I needed to have an injection to save my eye but would not give it to me because he couldn't get insurance approval. I WOULD HAVE PAYED FOR IT , but was not given that opportunity. I think it's telling that he is on the defensive instead of what a professional should do, which is apologize for a lack of civility. There are plenty of decent eye doctors in this area that you don't have to come to this one. Be warned. UPDATE: The doctor called me 5 minutes after this and said I wasn't fair for making this review about my experience. He also said that because I wasn't the patient that I'm not allowed to speak about my experience. I take my father to healthcare appointments because he can't speak English. It's telling that he saw this review about his attitude and treatment and knew who left the review. This is the most unprofessional healthcare professional I have ever dealt with. I didn't know I wasn't allowed to say the rude and hurtful things that happened to me so that others don't go through the same thing. Definitely do not recommend coming here. I don't understand healthcare professionals who feel like they can berate and undermine patients going through a difficult time. I am so grateful that I found Dr. Abbassi. My eye was significantly damaged from shingles and I could barely keep it open. I saw other doctors first but my eye continued to worsen. It has now been over one year since I posted my initial impressions about Dr. Abbassi. I would like to add a few more thoughts, after having sent many patients to him. First of all, Dr. Abbassi has NEVER asked me to post any reviews about him! A recent patient had a wrinkle on the retina (macular pucker or epirentinal membrane) that was profoundly affecting her vision. Her case was complicated by the fact that she had previously had several LASIK procedures and cataract surgery. Retinal surgery was scheduled, but four days before the surgery Dr. Abbassi called me and asked if I would recheck the glasses Rx once more before surgery. I did, and the patient was able to be corrected to a "not perfect" 20/20 which was acceptable to her. Her surgery was cancelled. Another patient had an old retinal tear that had been lasered many years ago. She was doing fine and Dr. Abbassi said no further treatment was necessary. Other patients were able to decrease the frequency of their monthly eye injections due to macular degeneration. In summary, what my patients and I appreciate about Dr. Abbassi is his caring personality, expertise and conservative approach. Lastly, I would encourage new patients to "ignore" any negative reviews you might read here. I have seen Dr. Abassi since May 2023 on a recurring basis due to a Vein Occlusion requiring Retinal Injections in my right eye. Initially the first type of medication used was not as effective as it could be so he promptly changed the medication choice and the appropriate results occurred making a huge difference in the health of my eye. During this process Dr. Abassi has been gentle and understanding, as I am one of those patients who has come to terms with the process but is still uncomfortable at the thought of the procedure. I went to see Dr.Abbassi for the first time today for an increased eye floaters issues on my right eye. I am glad to have found a good and professional ophthalmologist around West Hills since I recently moved to the area. The doctor was extremely professional, patient and knowledgeable. What struck me was that he was not rushing through the appointment which I experienced with my previous ophthalmologist. In fact, he took time to explain causes and eye concerns for my floaters issues. He answered any lingering questions I had and had a great bed side manner when checking my eyes. The front desk assistant (Stephanie or Tiffany?) in the doctor's office deserves a major credit as well. She was courteous and set up an early appointment to see the doctor when I called two days before that I have been experiencing a surge in floaters. Words can not describe just how incredible Dr. Abbassi is and how thankful I am for his care. Dr. Abbassi is truly one of a kind. I would trust him not only with my eyes but my life. I have never met a physician with such a passion for medicine and patients as him. I went to Dr. Sam Abbassi's office for my eye checkup. I was encountered with a warm and cozy atmosphere. The music that was playing and the paintings on the wall were very beautiful and relaxing. I don't usually post reviews of medical professionals but my experience with Dr Abbassi was/is so different from the last reviewer I felt it important to share my experience. When I read the prior review, I immediately wondered if they were reviewing the wrong doctor. I have seen Dr Abbassi many, many times since September when I had a retinal detachment. He performed a vitrectomy and reattached the retina as well as laser treatments on my other eye for retinal tears. From the the first time I met him and now many appts later, he has been kind, attentive and taken time to answer any and all questions I've had. I have been particularly impressed by his manner during his examinations of my eyes. These kind of eye exams are intense and Dr Abbassi always makes the process easier because of his encouraging and supportive communication. The vitrectomy surgery is/can be quite an ordeal because of the requirements during the post op period which for me lasted about 8 weeks. Dr Abbassi was always supportive and available when I had concerns or questions. If I have to go through this procedure again, I would want no one else to preform the surgery than Dr. Abbassi. Also, I was recommended to Dr Abbassi specifically by my regular ophthalmologist. I can see why. Dr. Abbassi did his fellowship at one of the leading universities specializing in vitrectomy surgery.
