$3,000 dollars later, I wish I never contacted Prime Locksmith. These guys are full blown scam artists. DO NOT CONTACT THEM. If you do, get quotes and estimates upfront. Don't make the mistake we did and didn't ask how much they charge for services. My wife and I just bought a new home and wanted the locks changed, wanted a way to update the door code on the Schlage smart lock that was left on our front door, and wanted to fix a broken knob on our back French doors. (See attached photos) I called Prime Locksmith and they sent a guy over to look at everything. He swapped the front door, backdoor, and garage door locks without any issues, and now we only need one key to open all of them, which is nice. Now on to the bad. Since we didn't have the paperwork with the original codes for the Schlage smart lock, the locksmith said he had to take it to his "friend" so he can "hack" the lock so we can set up a new code. So, we set up a new code and he charged us $225 to do so. The lock eventually reset and became unusable, so I just bought a new smart lock (for around the same price) and was able to install and program it myself. Wasted $225 on that. As I mentioned, I asked about replacing the backdoor French doorknob that was broken. He ignored me and said I needed to replace the whole lock mechanism that was inside the door. He said he had to drive to Pasadena or Torrance to find this specific piece and that he'll be back. He left and came back about 4 hours later, smelling of smoke. When he got back, he said he ordered the piece for us from his supplier. He showed me the receipt and it showed the mechanism cost $1,347.50 and he got expedited shipping for an extra $125. He said he already paid for the piece and it was custom to our door so we couldn't return it. He never called us or asked us for approval of the purchase of this piece. He just bought it and showed the bill to us, and refused to leave until we paid him. After I made the mistake of paying him, I tried calling the manager of this company to dispute the charges. He was of no help. He just said, "You paid. No refunds." So yea, if you need locksmith services, find literally anyone else. These guys took advantage of young new homeowners and just completely screwed us over. See attached photos for receipts and pictures of parts.

I brought my 2003 Honda Element in to get the door lock fixed because my key wasn't working. They were are to diagnose the problem and fixed the issue with the lock. It was a big job because they had to take apart the door to get inside the lock but the charge was very reasonable. Highly recommend. read more

The locksmith that they sent me tried to scam me. He quoted $750 to replace a handle and door mechanism (that he said was broken). I was desperate at the time so I said ok. But then I thought about the price as he left to get parts and decided against using their service. I called their dispatch immediately and told them to cancel. They insisted that I talk to the repairman when he returned with the parts. When he returned I told him I was no longer interested in their service. He argued with me trying to get met to pay for the parts that he just got. Then he tried to get me to pay 30%. After 20 minutes of heated exchanges he finally left. My landlord sent over her locksmith today. Turns out the mechanism was fine and I just needed a new handle ($40). It took the new locksmith 15 minutes to fix my door. I will never use Prime Locksmith again. Beyond a disgraceful scam. read more

GREAT SERVICE!! I broke the key fob for my explorer (think twice before tossing your keys to a teenager) and I was bracing for the cost of a new one. It turns out that you can buy new shell if the internal parts are in intact! Omar saved me a ton of money and was a compete pro. It would have been easy to just sell me a whole new fob (I didn't know any better) but he decided to earn a return customer instead of making the bigger sale. It was a great experience. read more

I had a really great experience with Prime. What was supposed to be help with a simple lockout turned into having to rekey my entire house after I discovered that a crazy person had broken in and changed all my locks! The technician, Sam, was really friendly and helpful and waited with me until the police came and got the man out. He was then able to quickly rekey the entire house for me and did it all for a reasonable price. He was a lifesaver. I would definitely use this company again if I ever need locksmith services. read more

Avi is the man! Showed up in less than an hour to replace a totally lost key fob. Had the right fob and the very expensive looking machine to program it. 20 minutes later I was back on the road with an easy credit card mobile pay. Offered me a 100$ discount on a second Fob if I come by the shop. Definitely will take him up on it. Thanks Avi! read more

Got locked out of my house. They were here fast, but they charged an exorbitant rate, and I believe they used an ostensible "language barrier" (his English was great) to trick me into that rate. He quoted me $145 for labor plus $85 for the cost of the lock itself if I decided to change the lock, which I opted against. After let me in, he said the price was $276. When I asked for a breakdown, he said it was $145 for labor, plus $85 for the service call (not the lock itself as originally stated), plus an additional fee for "not doing damage" that wasn't previously mentioned at all. It all felt very sketchy and predatory. If you look through the reviews, you'll find other people mentioning similar experiences. These guys make a pattern of giving you a low quote, then hitting you with an absurd bill when the work is complete. I'd recommend going somewhere else. read more

I came to this locksmith shop in Van Nuys and worked with Omar, and he was awesome from start to finish. He greeted me right away, listened to what I needed, and explained my options clearly without any pressure. The prices were fair, and he finished the job much faster than I expected. Omar was patient while I figured out exactly what I wanted and even helped me pick the best key and lock option for my situation. You can tell he knows what he's doing and actually cares that you leave happy and taken care of. The shop has a big selection of keys and everything felt very professional and organized. If you need a locksmith in Van Nuys, ask for Omar. He's friendly, efficient, and makes what could be a stressful situation really simple and easy. Just came to here to get a spare key for my new (to me) Chevy Avalanche that I just recently purchased. The gentlemen came out and helped me right away. Service is great as it only took him a few minutes to properly measure and cut the appropriate key for the vehicle. I for one have always been adamant about having a spare on top of a spare for emergency purposes as you never know how and when it will come in handy. Small price to pay now vs having someone drive out to you in the middle of a busy Saturday night to break in and/or cut you a new key on the spot. I would definitely recommend this place for any and all individuals looking to get spare keys made for the vehicles or even their homes. read more

I came to the store to re-key my front locks , Omar took good care of me, explained everything about security, also gave me two keys extra as a gift and I choose a cute key with a princess logo with it !! The store is in a good location I didn't had any problem to reach it. The have a very big verity you can choose of what key you want. This guy is a total jerk. I came in to have a key made to the cut code that came with my lock and he immediately starts going off on me, accusing me off being a criminal?! It's beyond absurd the attitude I was given when I came in very politely and with nothing but respect, looking like a clean cut blonde haired nerd basically. Moral of the story being I didn't get my key made. To the locksmith that I dealt with - how about next time you go to eat a falafel, how about you eat a bag of di*ks instead. read more

I ordered multiple lock sets from a bigbox store, because they said they could re-key them all to match. After a big runaround at that store, only to find out that they could not do what I wanted, I called Prime. They said they could solve my problem, and did so immediately with no fuss or bother. They even gave suggestions on the installation, as well as told me they could come help if I ran into trouble. So friendly, understanding, helpful! Very reasonably priced, too. Amazing customer service and friendly environment!!!!! Omar greeted me and made me feel super comfortable... he even offered water and coffee while I waited the diagnosis of my situation. Prime locksmith simply delivers. Bentzi is responsible, professional and reasonably priced as Vun Nuys prices go. I called him on a Friday morning and he was at my door Saturday afternoon installing a deadlock and smart lock for me. He was done within 25 min max and that's because we were waiting for the smart work to calibrate. I needed to get 2 sets of keys copied and while making them he was just frustrated. Only made one set that I dont even know will work or not, and then he came to a conclusion saying that my keys are way too warm out when ever They are COMPLETELY BRAND NEW KEYS, and he wont make them when he already made one set! Save yourself your time and go some where else that where they show appreciation coming into their business! Dont recommend this place!
