We ordered 5 baked, individual-size pizzas online to take home for a family celebration. They survived the 20 min ride home quite well. The flavors are incredibly fresh and the sauce is the best I've ever had. My greatest praise is for the gluten-free pizza and the attention to preparing it safely. It came in its own baking pan, and the box was clearly marked with a sticker that included the crust ingredients. This attention to detail and safety is hard to find. Our daughters' favorite is the Margherita pizza. Another had the Ortolana with pepperoni. With this praise comes a few suggestions. It would be helpful to have the size of the pizza listed in the online menu (seems to be about 9" for regular crust and 10" for gluten-free). It's listed on the hone page, but not on the online ordering page. There is a larger family size available, but no idea if gluten-free crust comes in the larger size. For the price, I thought the gluten-free pizza was going to be the family size. I understand the need for the price point considering the crust is imported from Italy -- it's just nice to have that additional info ahead of time. I didn't see any info on the menu noting whether any toppings are gluten-free, but I'm sure a phone call would take care of that. We look forward to returning and trying the take-and-bake option in the future. read more

Imagine my surprise walking into this small, authentic Italian specialty store which boasts the best pizza in town. Coming from Chicago, I was curious to see how this claim to fame would stand up. Wow was I thrilled to have a thin crust pizza with a crispy ring and fresh mozzarella garnish. I ordered a slice of pesto pizza and the chef agreed to add some sausage. Yummy. Seriously the people here are the nicest. They chatted with my family for a while, made us DELICIOUS pizza, and gave us free samples of wonderful gelato. It's one of those places that you may not notice as it's amongst a lot of other places in downtown Hinsdale, but it's a gem. Highly recommend. The "five fromage" pizza (I think that's the name) was excellent. I will say- my Margarita pizza was a little burnt. It still tasted good, hence the 5 stars, but I could see some people being turned off by that. This great little restaurant/foodie store takes me back to the early 2Ks when specialty foods and exploratory cuisine/travel were all the rage. We lost a lot of great places like this over the past decade. However, this shop is right at home in the heart of Hinsdale where a love of high end ingredients, adventure, and small-shop craftsmanship is alive. The menu is small but the combos of flavor are just so well-crafted. We tried 3 pizzas and a salad and only disappointment was that we got smalls! It's a take-n-bake concept but they will bake them for you if they have oven space. In a time where you can't travel, a restaurant that takes you on a journey while supporting local is extra special. Crust was imported from Italy. Assembled it at home per the instructions given and cooked it at 450° for about 10 minutes. Crispy crust, tangy Italian tomatoes and delicious creamy cheeses. One bite of the pizza and wait I don't remember taking a flight to Italy. It's authentic, the crust is imported from Italy and you know their flour is better. Took the Altamura plunge this evening; the quality of ingredients and results alone put them several notches above what's available in the area. The logic is sound: someone does the hard work of sourcing quality ingredients, including a dough you can't here (even if you keep kilos of Caputo's "00" around, which I do), and preps them to the point you need only pop them into the oven eight minutes to enjoy them. They can throw in a good selection of fresh leafy salad options, and you've no choice but to surrender to the ease of it. We went for the Quattro Stagioni, à Marguerita and the arugula salad: all delish--crispy, thin crust with a nice bit of chew, perfect ratio between cheese, tomato and other flavors. Bonus: the scent of pizza called everyone to the table; try that with the thing you either just had delivered or schlepped home. Trust me--they both arrive lukewarm, no bubbling or steam. Steeeeaaam. Would have delighted in trying tte GF crust option; alas, it is so popular, they're out. Hoping to partake when it becomes available again. So do yourself a favor: give yourself 20-30 minutes lead time, order, pick up curbside, then scurry home with that treasure! And if you're doing that, call the restaurant and order directly from them; they don't then have to pay a certain party or two to intervene. Capiche? I ordered an lg-cooked Salsiccia Rossa Pizza w extra homemade sausage; well done for delivery. The sauce was good. It wasn't thick and pasty. There was approx 3/4 to an inch of crust from the ingredients to the edge of the pizza. Well done didn't mean charred. It was cooked perfectly. The pizza was delivered within the estimated time; however, it wasn't even lukewarm. The pizza wasn't cut, no problem, until I used my pizza cutter (which must be dull) because it was a bit challenging for me to cut through. I'm not giving up yet. I work in town and I LOVE this little pizza spot - I always order a handful of the small size pizzas and they make the best quick dinner for week night, or I've picked them up for girls night and they are always a hit. The pizza's are light and of so fresh! I can't say enough good things about this place.I love that they keep in the fridge for a few days too - this way we can pop them in when we're ready to eat! In the former Homemade Pizza location. Similar concept, take and bake. Farm to table toppings on a crust with dough straight from Italy. You bake it at a high temp to give it the authentic Italian taste and texture. Unfortunately, I was sharing it with a teenager who is pretty picky and not much into any type of toppings so we had the basic Margherita (kid friendly). It was good but definitely could have used more toppings. They also have a section of pastas. The cool thing is this is family owned. All three owners were behind the counter. I almost lost my hope in finding authentic italian pizza since I moved from Italy 15 years ago. Then, I stumbled into thid hidden gem in Hinsdale! My hope is revived! I walked in and felt like I was in Altamura! I'm familiar with the town as I was born few km away. I met the owners, Carmela, her sister Ortensia and Steve. The sisters are making everything at the moment, everything is freshly made for you to take and bake at home! I brought back home their Pistacchio e their Cinque Formaggi The crust is the best! I ate the whole pizza without the bloated feeling! They know how to de9 5al with yeast! I was fighting to the kids for the crum9bles! I also bought the Taralli pugliesi. All gone already! Love this place! The owners are very lovely people, and the store is very clean and inviting. The pizzas are delicious, and a must try. Their take home pre-seasoned pastas and risottos are genius. I've tried 2 flavors and was very happy with the ease of the meal and the flavor. I just had the most delicious lemon basil sorbet they were serving up. It has to be one of the most delicious and refreshing treats I've ever had. I don't live close, and am not sure how I will get my hands on some more of it, but I can't stop thinking about it. I had to write a review when the service for my order was totally above and beyond. I was at an event with an Altamura charcuterie board and I was so impressed. Not only the amazing flavors from every corner, but the beautiful presentation. We were heading out of town to celebrate our son's college graduation and I wanted to bring one to have at his house. When Carmela heard that I would be traveling with our board and serving it a day later, she came in to work early to prepare it so that it would be its freshest. Needless to say, it was a huge hit and enjoyed by all. I really appreciated the customer service and attention to quality and freshness. Very disappointing service. Ordered pizza baked and paid extra for it to be baked (strange that they BBC barge for that). Picked it up and it was unbaked. We are also in the midst of a COVID surge and 2 of the 4 employees working in the shop had no masks on (not even partially on, masks were no where to be seen). I said something to the employees and they temporarily put on masks, but my husband went back in the shop 25 minutes later and said the employees had again taken their masks off. Clearly there is no regard for COVID and immunocompronised customers. We won't be back. read more

Altamura is a small family run restaurant/store. When you walk in you immediately see where they assemble all their food. The kitchen like the restaurant/store is clean, modern, and inviting. The big picture windows make the place bright and airy. They are very proud of their Italian heritage (the family hails from southern Italy) and the owner explained that they import all of their ingredients from there. Hence, their pizza is very much Italian style (thin crust and a creative assortment of toppings). It is definitely not the typical pizza that most Chicago pizzarias serve. We found the ingredients to be fresh, tasty and the pizza to be well prepared. Though they focus on take and bake pizza, they also have the option of baking it for you. They also offer a variety of side dishes to complement the pizza. I was impressed at the creativity of their salads, in particular - they had a beet salad and a cantaloupe/prosciutto salad which were both really good. Their gelato is a nice finishing touch. The window advertises gluten free pizza crust for those who need that. We visited them on the first day they were opened for lunch. The pizza was prepared quickly (about 10 minutes) and it was hot and tasty. They have a small counter with stools so you can enjoy lunch (or dinner I guess) right there. There's not a lot of room, but it was comfortable and pleasant. The restaurant/store is also a short walk away from two really good bakeries in Hinsdale, Sweet Ali and Toni's. So . . .you can get pizza AND desert. :-) That makes for a really nice evening at home. read more
