My husband and I just ate at Yia Yia's for the second weekend in a row and ate the exact same breakfast for each visit. Today, however was different. We suddenly were nickel-and-dimed for extras. They considered sausage links as a side dish instead of part of our breakfast order, which added an additional 50c each. Then they charged 25% tax. Standard tax is 10% in Berwyn/North Riverside area. On top of that, they insisted that we had to pay 18% assigned tip. They said it was written on the menu that we have to pay the assigned tip when the bill is over 50$. For an order that should've been 35$ as it was last week, we suddenly were charged $75 this week. So what happened? What changed? The worst part was when we calmly contested the bill in order to correct it, the manager came out, tossed the receipt at us with the menu, and threatened us to pay or he was going to call the police. For what? Asking for a correct bill, with correct and legal pricing? Needless to say, we will not return. We will not be treated like that. We will not be overcharged for tax and tip. And we will not put up with the insecurities of a manager who believes it's ok to treat his customers in a disrespectful manner. read more

Yia Yia's is the kind of breakfast spot where everyone will find something on the menu they like! They have a nice list of coffee beverages which I appreciate. But don't expect foam art;) The decor and food are just what you'd expect at a breakfast spot. We've always had awesome servers too, perhaps it's because you pay up at the front. That can be a bit of a crowd - people trying to pay, people trying to put their names on the wait list (there's rarely a wait list-the space is so big!) They keep things old school and haven't updated to the hand held "I'll check you out right now" devices. And while the business person in me WANTS them to update, it's also kinda nice to be at breakfast place where there's not a sense of urgency to get in/get out. Still delicious. This is still my favorite breakfast place. The ponchos tacos are still delicious. The peppermint mocha is super yummy for the holidays and the chicken pita was good. YiaYia's has an ample parking lot, it's clean and spacious inside, with efficient and friendly service, and a big enough menu with a lot of breakfast and lunch items to fit someone's brunch cravings. I came here on a Saturday around 10am and the place had a few tables occupied. Our server was on point. Foodwise, it was good but nothing to rave about. The BANANA BREAD FRENCH TOAST had more of the fried batter taste vs the banana bread itself. The fresh bananas drizzled in syrup were too sweet that they tend to overtake the french toasts at the bottom. For the other dish that I have tried, the HAM, POACHED EGGS and HASH BROWNS were all prepared from fresh ingredients and cooked well. There are other items on the menu that looked and sounded delicious so maybe next time I can try a sandwich or a meat skillet. I like how neat and convinient the place is, not to mention the good service I received that time, so I won't mind coming back:) read more

Best pancakes I've ever had!. They're advertised as "fluffy" but I found the chewey mouth feel uniquely special. And the silver dollar size was perfect for the kids. The chorizo in the bandito omlette wasn't that spicy or greasy. With plenty of cheese and avocado this selection was well worth the price. Even the maple syrup tastes specially authentic. and there was more than enough for all our meals. Their Avgolemono soup is perfectly seasoned, we had to take away a whole pint.. We ordered onlne, paid at the restaurant, and took 3 bags of food to go. We've been patronizing this restaurant since 2010 and the quality just goes down every year. Just stay away from strawberry lemonade is all I can say. If you are using 20$ value Groupon for your check that is less than 20$, they make it seem like they are doing a huge favor by taking it. They will also make you pay taxes apart from the Groupon value (never in my many years of Groupon use Have I ever seen that done). And from reading previous reviews I know there's no use pleasing logic with management so I forked over my spare change and ran away fast. I ended up paying more for the meal using this Groupon. I went just to use up the Groupon today but you won't ever see me here again. There are better brunch options around. Should have gone back to Beatrice. Dang you, Groupon. You got me good again. Ps. They didn't even give me a receipt. And hopefully not having one in my possession will erase all memories of this joint. The only saving grace of this place is location.
