It's been open about 3 months. No one waiting on us after the hostess sat us down for too long of a while. Hmmm. Salsa and chips are out, a long 16 minutes after being seated by a random staffer. We asked the staffer if we could order. She doesn't take orders. She said our waitress would be with us to take our order soon. Our waitress ran off after bringing our drinks. We asked the same staffer from earlier to get our waitress, this waiting is running long for a Mexican restaurant. Food order is finally in 27 minutes later. Our waitress was attentive and on top of things, once she connected with us. Ordered Guacamole, rolled tacos with side of beans only, Three grilled chicken street tacos with black bean side and Sonoran ranchero with black beans and no cheese. $65.67 The chips are good. Crispy and fresh. Mild salsa has an odd taste to me. The spicy salsa is just pure hot. The two mixed is better. The guacamole is good, not super flavorful though and a bit bland, still decent. The rolled chicken taco is good, comes with cheese inside. The first Sonoran ranchero looked good, cotija cheese on my black beans though. All of the staff see friendly and checked up on us after we ordered. The food was out good. Put a rush on my redo for my Sonoran ranchero with black beans and no cheese. We went on March 28, 2026 and Reilly W was our server. Let's start off by saying she did a phenomenal job. Our drinks were never empty and her friendliness was spot on. I let her manager know as well. The food was delicious as always. This is our 3rd time eating here with the new owners and it will continue to be a regular stop for us. The only thing I don't love is the volume of the live music. This is the second time we have been there with the singer performing. The 1st time we sat in the bar area and were unable to hear each other at the table. This time we sat in the dining room far from the entertainment and it was still very loud. I would have them turn it down a bit if I were the manager. This will not stop us from returning but I do feel the loudness will drive some away. We came back to the Cantina on a less busy Thursday evening and enjoyed it just as much as the first time. I had the Carne Asada Burrito and she had the fish tacos, and they were So Good! This restaurant is at the corner of Schoenherr and 23 Mile Road in the same location as the old Miguel's. They completely renovated the interior and added a small banquet room that is not completely finished yet. They call this a "soft" opening. Other than the waitress having to work out some bugs with the check out system, we didn't have any issues. The waitress was awesome, the chips and salsa was free and the food was delicious. We love this place! What sets it apart from other Mexican restaurants is the freshness of the ingredients. The meats and produce are always fresh, and the quality really stands out. I have no clue what this place was before but I stopped in here on my way home from scrapbooking. I love good Mexican food, and this place seems to have it. Walking in I was pleasantly greeted by a wonderful hostess and she at me at a booth in the main dining area. They have bar seating, but since it wasn't busy, I was thrilled I didn't have to sit there. I reviewed the menu and they have a great selection of items and specials. The hostess and server both told me about taco Tuesday along with their happy hour specials. I was about 15 minutes to early for happy hour, but you can get tacos galore made several different ways. I didn't want any rice and beans this time, but if I did it would've cost a few bucks extra. Since prices were good, I thought about it but didn't order it. Food was delicious and I was full when the whole meal was complete. Decor is nice, and they have a really cool mural over the kitchen area of cactus. We went to Primo Cantina for lunch yesterday and will definitely be going back! I love the aesthetic--lots of big windows, and everything feels fresh and clean. The food was absolutely delicious. All six of us were very happy with our meals and felt it was a great value for the price. We ordered the Cantina Bowl, Big Burrito, Enchiladas, Chicken and Shrimp Fajitas, and Shrimp Tacos. We also tried the Jamaica and Horchata. I could honestly drink a whole gallon of the Jamaica--it was that good! The Horchata was pretty good too, though it had a slight red-hot cinnamon flavor to it. The food and service is good and the prices reasonable. Both entrees with Carne Asada had plenty of quality steak and taste. Went for the first time and the food is better than average, I'd say 6.5 - 7.0 out of 10. It's not fantastic and it didn't suck. It was just your typical Michigan/Mexican food that you would get at any restaurant around here. And right off the bat, the silverware on the table was dirty and we needed a new set. Our waitress was very good. She was prompt, polite and attentive. Ambiance... loud. Was hard to have a conversation with my wife and daughter. Probably because of the extra high ceiling. The steak burrito was very bland but huge in size, yet no more than an ounce or two of steak. Just filled to the brim with the same bad rice that came with the tacos. I saw some good reviews about the soft opening of Primo Cantina, and wanted to check it out. Arrived at 3:00pm and not much of a crowd (which is what I prefer) yet. Was seated by one of the owners who was great during our experience there. After we were seated I saw the owner bring out a few platters of fajitas for the waitstaff to try out. He told me that today was the first time introducing them, and he wanted the waitstaff to give them a try. They weren't on the soft opening menu, but he said I could order them if I wanted to. Of course I had to give them a try, and being the first patron to order them felt pretty good. I did a combo of steak and chicken, both meats you could tell have been marinaded before they were cooked, which I don't think you typically see done. The flavor of both meats alone was fantastic. My friend ordered the street tacos with shredded chicken which she said were very good. I told her I'm typically not a fan of shredded chicken because it usually comes out pretty wet, but hers looked very appetizing for how they were presented and didn't have that very finely shredded wet appearance to them. Complimentary chips and salsa were on point, along with the margarita's. I tried the Pineapple Jalapeño Margarita and it was excellent. The owner graciously brought us out a complimentary fried cheesecake which was incredible with a light cinnamon coating on it. This is the best Mexican food full restaurant in Michigan hands down! There is nothing like this around and so happy they are finally opened. I lived on the west coast for 20 years and this is definitely as authentic as you can get. Not to mention you can taste the quality of the meats they are using in the food. I went to Primo Cantina last night for the first time with a friend. Atmosphere wise it was a Fri. night and as expected it was busy. The restaurant was very loud which made it difficult to converse across the table. The food we had (fish tacos with black beans and rice on the side and street tacos with the sides) were both very good, as were the Expresso Martinis. Our server Reilly W was super friendly and checked on us regularly to make sure we were happy and taken care of. Price-wise for 2 drinks and 2 fish tacos, before the tip it came to just under $47, so not cheap. So so soooo good! I highly recommend this place! We started with delicious margaritas and queso with ground beef. It was excellent! I ordered a quesadilla with the birra beef and loved it. We also tried the beef birra tacos with the dipping beef sauce. Very good! We called in and still had a bit of a wait but it was worth it. It was very crowded by 6. The setting is fine. Not a great place to stand and wait but, the tables were well spaced. From the call in to seating, it probably took 30-40 minutes. The manager was friendly and cheerful. So excited to finally have a really good Mexican restaurant around. We have already been here multiple times and have yet to find something we didn't like. We've had the shrimp ceviche, chicken rolled tacos, guacamole, queso, carne asada tacos, fish tacos, quesabirria tacos, primo burrito, primo rancheros, kid's chicken quesadilla, soup and fried ice cream. Everything has been absolutely delicious. The chips and salsa were so fresh and flavorful. The green and red salsas/sauces that come with the food are phenomenal. You can taste the quality of the ingredients they use in every bite. Their drinks are great too. So far, we've tried a margarita and an espresso martini and both were fantastic. WOW! I'm from Arizona and every time I catch myself in Michigan I miss a little bit of home and this feels exactly like real authentic Mexican food in the Midwest.
