Delicious food and friendly staff! I stopped by Primo Foods for the first time while my car was being serviced nearby during lunch. I ordered the carne asada burrito with chicharron. Never had chicharron in a burrito before and it was so good. I really liked that it was packed with veggies like pickled carrots instead of just being loaded with beans it felt more balanced and flavorful. My daughter recommended going and getting the Tuesday $.69 tacos special. She raved about the Carne Asada and Carnitas as well as their homemade hot sauce. I went there today and was amazed at what a wonderful little gem of a Mexican market Primo is. There wasn't too long of a line, service was quick, and everyone that I engaged with their was really nice. They were serving samples of their fruit juices that they make as well as their amazing barbecue tri-tip. I picked up a half a pound of that because it was so amazing and worth the $22 a pound. I was also amazed at their Carnitas and Carne Asada street tacos. They put plenty of protein, didn't find any fat, and they'll top it with onions and cilantro with sliced lime and salsa packets on the side. I have been to the primos in oceanside and the other location in vista an uncountable amount of times. I love it. But, today I decided to go to this newly opened one as its closest to my house. First time going here. I ordered 9 tacos in total of carne asada, fish, and birria. When I got home and unpacked my plates, the carne asada plate had yellow, chewed gum right next to the tacos. I picked it up, smelled it, and squished it and there is no mistake it was gum. I had to throw the whole plate away. I've quite literally never had something like this happen before, but this completely ruined my experience. I really didn't want to write this review, but hopefully something can change about the standards of preparing the food. read more

Went in because every time I drive by the smell is wonderful. Was so disappointed with the babyback and beef ribs. they were overcooked and charred to almosi inedible. Ribs are supposed to be juicy and tender. I spent $60 for what I had to trash half of. Don't know if this is standard for their ribs, but if they burn them they shouldn't sell them. The mini tacos were great. However, the employee serving them should find another job, he clearly isn't interested in providing any customer service to customers. I ordered 20 tacos for my French quests, I asked for rice and beans and he said the were out of rice and beans. This was an hour before closing. He provided no salsa or the toppings, cilantro and onions I asked for on the side. Somehow the cashier was able to get me rice and beans. It's probably been 5 years since I was last at a Primos. I have enjoyed the primo bbq for several years. Coming home from work I could see the smoke from the bbq which meant it was primo time. Excellent ribs. And the sauce was awesome. I got three tacos Al Pastor, Carne Asada, and chicken. They are street taco size, which is my favorite. Nice flavor and made fresh at the deli counter. There was a gentleman giving out free samples of BBQ Tritip. Out of this world. What is this place??? With a soda and three tacos I spent $3.91... if feel like I was transported to 1984 when the American dream was alive and well. I feel bad I didn't buy more stuff. First came here for the 69 cent tacos on Tuesday and Friday. I try to go every Tuesday and Friday it is a great deal and the tacos are good street type tacos. Which means they are small double tortilla, with onions and cilantro and your choose of protein. They have many different types of meat I would recommend the Cabeza (cow head), Pescado (fish), the el pastor (marinated pork) and carne asada. They also have great agua fresca my personal favorite is also pina (pineapple). The employees are also very friendly, since the line is typically long for the tacos they come around with samples which I think is very nice. It can feel a bit cramped at times with so many people in the store but no way to get around it because it is a popular place. read more

I thought the good days were gone, but primo brought 'em back! Their birria is some of the best around. The place is clean and lively. Someone else in a review mentioned a man giving free tri-tip samples. I got one too when I first walked in. Like, is this a mini Hispanic Costco? They have truly authentic TJ street tacos (and burritos, ceviche, and much of the usual MX restaurant offerings), and both the food and service are excellent. My friend & I got 4 tacos each (that's 8 tacos) for a grand total of $6.00! In the year 2024, where else north of the border are you getting a full belly for three bucks?
