Visiting from Long Island, NY. Just had their regular slice and I must say this truly tastes like New York City pizza. Delish!

This place is not terrible but I wouldn't go out of my way to return. The long wait for 1 slice of somewhat soggy pizza and forgetting the garlic knots I had ordered really turned me off. I always get two slices with mushrooms. The size of the slices are the typical large NY style. I like that the mushrooms are sautéed and not thrown on the pizza slice raw and quickly reheated like i've had other places do. I've traveled around this state quite a bit and this place easily has the best Pizza in the state!

A year ago this would have been 5 stars, but after having more than one subpar pizza, it is not worth more than 3. It started off delicious, being from New Jersey/York, we were searching for the closest thing and Primo's fit that. More recently, we received a pizza that was over cooked with a partially burnt bottom. It was inedible. Since it was a 1st, we called and ordered again about a week later. A man (not one of the phone girls who usually answers) answered the phone who I thought may be an owner. I ordered a pie and mentioned that the previous pie had been over cooked. He made some snarky comment that I can't specifically recall because some time has passed but it really put me off. No apology, nothing. The last 2 pies we ordered (most recently yesterday) just have been ok. We tried Anthony's by Walmart and it's phenomenal. If only they delivered.... read more

We had their Supreme pizza and it was very good. Full of toppings and good flavor. We also had the wings and Garlic knots. The wings are bit small but tasty the garlic knots would of been better if it would of been garlic butter or oil with garlic...I would not get the knots again. read more

Lived in NY my entire life. Read the reviews, and immediately tried to order from there that night. I didn't get past the phone call. I called at about 7pm for a delivery pizza, as we live about 3 blocks away. The person who answered wasn't sure they were still doing delivery. What? He found out they were. I then ordered a sicilian pizza. The gentleman on the phone told me it would be at least an hour. Ok? He then talks to someone else, and changes that to an hour and forty five minutes. For a sicilian pie. I asked why. He told me they don't have them made, and the crust is really thick. Apparently they use easy bake ovens at this place. Being told you will wait 2 hours for a pie is insane. Needless to say, my search continues. read more

I ordered a slice of pizza with extra pepperoni. What I got was an old slice of pizza, rewarmed in an oven. The cheese was rubbery and the sauce was thick from settling. It's not my favorite place to eat. read more

This really is the best pizza around. I grew up in NY and can tell you this - a lot of places around here CLAIM to have NY-ish pizza but this place reminds me of some places in Brooklyn. Nice and crispy on the bottom and the sausage slice I got had a lot of sausage on it...They did not get 5 stars for two reasons...I personally like a little bit of a spicier sauce, and I prefer crumbled sausage over sliced, but I haven't found anyone in NC that does that yet. Been picking up pizza from here for about 5 years. It has progressively gotten worse, yet I keep going back hoping it's as good as it once was. About 6 months ago the crust started coming undercooked, I ordered them well done since yet they've still come undercooked. Tried a calzone from them for the first time, here is some context I live about 10 minutes away so some things are to be expected like maybe a little soggy from the drive home, this calzone was inedible. It was grease soaked and so soggy it completely disintegrated once picked up. Also, on my last visit with the calzone order, I noticed they had some new Arizona drinks in the fridge (the 99 cents ones) and I grab a few and the cashier says they are $2 each, I reply with you mean these $1 drinks that say $1 on the manufacturer's label? She laughs and says I'm the first to notice!!! Really? I'm absolutely done with primos, which is a shame because one of the cooks possibly the owner, an older Mexican gentleman is one of the nicest people you'll meet and this place used to be good. When Primo first opened, I was so excited to have a great pizza place nearby. I didn't have to travel to Cary or Raleigh to get good pizza. I ordered pizza last night because we couldn't neat meat because it is Lent. Never again. The pizza dough was way over cooked!! We had a calzone with spinach and mushrooms. I hope that the chef would know that a calzone has ricotta and mozzarella. I needed a magnifying glass to find the cheese. The spinach was delicious. However, I did not order a plate of spinach. The top of the calzone deflated and very thin and well done. I was so disappointed! I would definitely not recommend this place any longer. I hope that they get their act together. I ordered the Chicken Caesar Salad. VERY good dressing. My husband ordered a Cheese Steak Sub. No flavor. WAY too much cheese and not enough steak. Atmosphere is funky... long table in front of counter makes it hard to order when people are sitting there. Staff was VERY friendly and accomodating!! This is the BEST pizza in Clayton/Raleigh/Garner. Fast, fresh, wide variety of toppings and great garlic knots. Huge slices and the crust is awesome. Parking is limited, but primos delivers if you don't want to deal with the hassle of downtown (we have always found a spot for the record). read more

This is the BEST pizza around. My husband is from NY and says this is the closest to true NY pizza around here. I haven't tried anything but pepperoni because it's just so good. The ratio of sauce to cheese and pepperoni is perfect. The dough is perfect with just the right amount of softness to crunch. The pizza is very much like NY pizza where you need to fold it to eat it. We generally either get 1 18 inch or 2 14 inch depending on the specials. 1 18 is enough for us to eat at least twice and most times 3 times. The 2 14 inch are enough for us to eat 4 times. I personally love having pizza again a second day. I have done pickup and delivery and haven't been disappointed. They do get busy of Friday and Saturday so you should take that into consideration when timing your order. But even in a busy night the most time it's ever taken for us to receive pur pizza was 45 minutes. Overall, I highly recommend Primo Pizza! read more

This place blows Venero's gross pizza way out of the water. I've been searching for decent NY pizza since I moved down here in 2005, and I finally don't have to drive to Raleigh for it anymore! There are a few flaws though: 1. Their deliver service is terrible. They will tell you 20-25 minutes and almost 45 minutes later you will get a call saying they cannot find your house. 2. We have seen first hand them drop a chicken strip on the floor and then immediately drop it back in the fryer. Now we refuse to order anything that goes in the fryer. 3. One sign of a GOOD pizza place is that they make their own dough for EVERYTHING. However, Primo's does not. They purchase their hero rolls from the local grocery store. read more

We just moved to NC from NJ as my husband's employer transferred us. Being Northerners we know what a good NY Pizza is, and this place has it! We've been in NC for 1 month now, and we really haven't had the chance to try all the pizza places yet. We only had pizza from one other place in town until now, who I will say was good, but Primo's was way better! I'm a fan! Loved the special, 2 slices and a fountain drink for $4.99. Sorry, I'm not coming back!...I ordered a couple of pies and wings. everything was fine until I noticed this guy cleaning above the food fryer almost on top of the wings he was frying. I asked the guys to stop cleaning until he was done cooking, and he seemed bothered. I said he shouldn't be cleaning until after the other person finishes cooking just in case something might fall in. Now, I'm all for a clean kitchen but this guy has no kitchen etiquette. I overheard them yapping in the back about the incident, so I guess they didn't get it why I was disgusted for. So, needless to say, I'm going back to my place, Grand Street Pizza, in Knightdale.
