Didn't really like my Italian hoeagie. Was disappointed. For 7 bucks I'd expect better. Will not be going back...

Brussels sprouts cooked in an AMAZING sauce. And then... a pickle bowl?! Who knew I would love a pickle bowl?!? But wait... PICKLED GRAPES?! I'm not kidding. They're GOOD. Like... really, really good! Great beer. Great food. Great pickles. Great visit! And I'm pretty sure this place used to be a firehouse because that fire hydrant handrail is one of the coolest little touches I've seen. East Branch Brewing... you've officially made the rotation.

There was a nice big parking lot that was right next to the restaurant. We first tried to sit on the rooftop, they had a bunch of picnic tables up there. The ambiance was nice, but the way the sun was in the sky there was no shade. We chose to sit inside instead. It was fairly empty for 6pm on a Saturday. Our waitress was super nice. Husband and I each got a beer (brewed on site). They were good, happy to see a large selection that wasn't all IPAs. We started with the soft pretzel. It was tasty, big and soft. Husband got the brisket noodles. He loved them, but agreed with the menu warning that they were very spicy. I got the fried chicken sandwich. It was okay, nothing special. Kids each got the chicken nuggets and fries. The chicken was fresh hand breaded chicken breast. The French fries were very overdone. Overall, it was fine, but nothing worth coming back for.

Ambiance was nice enough and the music playing was a fantastic mix of classic rock. We both started with soup. My husband with the gumbo with cornbread and me with a daily special mushroom and brisket soup. Both were wonderful. The cornbread is off the hook and the gumbo was so flavorful with a really nice kick. Entrees were the pistachio crusted chicken for my husband. Crispy on the outside, juicy inside with crabmeat on top, served with garlicky mashed potatoes and some veggies. I had the shrimp and grits which is a go to item for me and they out did themselves. Shrimp was perfectly cooked and the grits were delicious with Tasso ham; just the right bite with some spice. Service was pleasant if a little slow but the food and music more than made up for it. Overall a great experience. We will definitely be back!!

We stopped in here after many a drive by. We are always on the hunt for a good chicken and waffles…read moreand here we found a tasty one. The chicken was nicely crispy and moist and it appeared to be two boneless thigh pieces. The waffle was thin and light and eggy almost like a brioche dough. The syrup was a cholula maple which was all over. I would have preferred a side of it to put it exactly where I wanted it. I say that because there was also a side of potatoes and two slices of bacon on the plate, both which were good but didn't bring anything to the plate. I would have preferred a bit more waffle and maybe a bacon crumble. My dining partner ordered the Nashville hot chicken sandwich which was absent of any heat. It was well prepared, just not what was ordered. Service was pleasant and efficient.

But when the operating hours changed -- we'd couldn't make it back in time before the diner closed. But now that there's Yuletide, which ends earlier than RenFaire, we managed to convene here before closing! So glad we got a chance to come back. When my friend said they filmed the Blob there, say no more! I love things like that. They did have "Blob" menu items but I needed some good old comfort food. I asked the super hustling single worker in the diner between meatloaf or chicken croquette. She said the chicken croquette. Unfortunately they were out. I changed to fried chicken. OMG! The crunch could be heard outside. It was seriously crunchy without being over fried. The mashed potatoes were fresh and lumpy. I asked for extra gravy. Very peppery and flavorful. The salad seemed freshly made. I like the salad dressing is individually packaged. Seems fresher that way. Colleen was super attentive for being the only wait staff there. Very sweet and comforting after all the rude airline employees I encountered. The restaurant is a converted train car. Very retro. I love the look of it. It felt right to sit at the counter. It was pretty full when we walked in. Very chrome. Very retro. Very cool place to dine. p.s. they are NOT open 24 hours.

Dining at La Sponda is a crap shoot. Here's why…read more Food is a 4-star. Cook staff is good with both the presentation and taste of the food. That's what brought us back. Unfortunately that's where it ends. Service is a 1-star. There seemed to be a language disconnect with the server. An overall near-zero experience. Our server was attentive to other tables seated after us who received their desserts before our entrees. Not one table check-in before, during or after the meal. Had to actually get up out of the seat to make sure the drink order was understood and it was right because the server did not seem to understand. Maybe that put the server off. We also flagged down other servers for assistance during the meal and even for ordering dessert. It took a long time to take payment for our bill. We almost got up to pay at the bar. Thus the crap shoot gamble at La Sponda. Atmosphere a 2.5 star. Loud atmosphere with a heavy metal music rotation. Good music, just not for this dinner atmosphere. Overall a 2.5-star on the strength of the food. We will not be back. Spending the money I did, even though the food is good at La Sponda, I don't want to risk a bad service experience again there. Not worth it for us but might not matter for others. Nevertheless - Caveat Emptor.
