Went in here on a weekday looking for something for breakfast, i saw it had a lot of good reviews and I wanted to give it a shot I walked in and was welcomed then left to choose what I want while they waited. I didn't see the big display case at first but found it after a moment, nothing was marked with a price but I might have missed that I opted for the cinnamon roll and chocolate croissant. Both were really good. The icing on the cinnamon roll was so damn good. It was sweet but not overwhelmingly sweet that overwhelms all the other flavors, it complemented the cinnamon and sugar. It wasn't a dry pastry which I LOVED. Anytime I get a cinnamon roll it ALWAYS disappoints and this one was just great all around. Only minor complaint I have is that I wish I was given a bit of direction when I walked in. It was my first time being there, I know I should've asked what was good and spoken up but I'm not that outgoing! I'm gonna need to read some more reviews and find out what items are the favorites there before I come back! I want recommendations for the next time I go! I love Irish Soda Bread and was delighted to see a loaf on the counter selling for approximately $10.00. The soda bread was very crumbly and really not edible. I was unable to cut a slice of this bread. I kept it for a week hoping it would firm up, put the crumbles in an air fryer to toast them--total bust. $10.00 is a lot to pay, if it were a delicious loaf, I would have been really happy. Got a small chocolate raspberry mouse cake, a slice of napoleon and a small chocolate pecan pie. -Cake: yet to try. Will update in 1-2 days. -Choc raspberry: 4/5. Creamy inside, not too fatty, nice sharp raspberry flavor that balanced well with the chocolate. Enjoyable. -Napoleon: 4/5. Had to squeeze a small sample from my wife as she ate. She loves Napoleon and thought this one was a solid example. Creamy, flaky, distinct but mild flavors. Very enjoyable. -Chocolate pecan pie: 4/5. I like pecan pie a lot, and this one was up there in my favorites. Usually I like a little more gooeyness. I know it's not good for me, bit I don't eat pecan pie everyday. This pie was a little on the dry side, probably better for your heart health. Chocolate was notable but not overwhelming. Again, a pleasant pastry. I would consider buying this one again if I was in the Pleasanton area and bring a big pie home. Location: cool downtown area, streets closed to traffic, walking only. Had to park in a side street near where the main street was closed off. Drove around a bit till found someone leaving. Store was nicely bright inside and clean. I love coming by this bakery for fresh bread and desserts! My personal favorites are the chèvre fig cake, chocolate chip cookie, maple bourbon eclair and raspberry hamantash cookie. My only gripes are: some items are very expensive, even with the freshness and quality in mind. Lastly, the brioche has been borderline inedible the few times I've purchased. The crust is hard as a rock and the inside is bland and spongey - not the sweet, fluffy flavor and texture expected. If I can get some fluffy fresh brioche I would be a happier gal. read more

Being able to stroll down to Primrose Bakery whenever a cookie craving strikes is the best! I am so happy that they stay open late because I can head down after dinner and grab a little something sweet for dessert. They have so many cookies, small cakes, tarts and breads to choose from. I think I've nearly sampled all the cookies and they are all fabulous. My favorites are the chocolate chip M&M, apricot hamantash, snickerdoodle and cherry flip. Their small cakes are perfect to share - or not - and indulge. My favorite is the chocolate truffle with its thick inner truffle layer and intense chocolate flavor. Their plain cheesecake is also amazing. We have tried their pre-packaged English muffins and coconut macaroons as well. Both are delicious. My friends and I really like this bakery. Their cakes are always of good quality and perfect for special occasions such as birthday parties or other celebrations. One cake that we've tried so many times from this place and always like is the Swedish Princess Cake. It's a layered cake consisting of alternating layers of sponge cake, pastry cream, raspberry jam, and a thick-domed layer of whipped cream. The cake is covered by a layer of marzipan, typically in a green or pink color, giving it a smooth rounded top. What I liked about this Princess Cake we bought from Primrose was the sponge cake was not too airy but at the same time wasn't too dense too. It felt substantial and had a nice slight resistance to the bite - so it wouldn't just disappear in your mouth. The pasty cream was great, blending almost very seamlessly with the alternating layers of sponge cakes. The whipped cream on top of the cake was perfect - it was kinda butter-milky, not really totally just whipped, and it had subtle saltiness to balance out the sweetness of the cake. I did, however, wish the raspberry jam to be a tad more, as it would give a nice little tang and thus balance to go against the heaviness of the cream. But overall, I really really liked it. I thought it was a good looking cake and the decoration was on point (extra credit for the whipped cream rose decoration on the cake!), but it was a little shorter than the typical Princess Cakes. Just keep in mind though that, compared to other bakeries in general, the price of cakes at Primrose is a little higher. read more

4 stars for the mimosas! For less than $6, you get a decent sized mimosa (orange or pomegranate, sometimes other flavors) in a to-go paper coffee cup. I don't know what sparking wine they use, but the mimosas taste good. They use POM brand pomegranate juice. They also sell cans of craft beer, seltzers, soda, juice, and water. I've never had the baked goods but they looks delicious. There have some full sized cakes on displays, and a large selection of individual sized cakes, individual pies, cannoli, cookies. Where's the cake? I used to go to the Castro Valley store to purchase the Princess Cake before having to drive all the way to Pleasanton. The Princess cake has always been something to look forward to. I purchased an 8 " cake over the weekend for a birthday for $53.00, (the last time I purchased it, it was $32.00, but no matter it's a special occasion). I was looking forward to it and what a disappointment. It was practically all creme that overwhelmed the cake, no one could finish eating it. I couldn't taste the Rasberry filling. I came in just 2 days before my daughter's 6th bday because another baker let me know last min they couldn't make the cake I needed in time. I am a fan of Primrose Bakery! In my experience, their desserts are always fresh and appealing to the eye. I've never had anything overly sweet and their cakes are always light, moist and balanced. The mini cakes are indeed mini -- BUT they are the perfect size for anyone wanting to avoid leftovers ( your waistline will thank you). There are many desserts I still need to try, like the Princess Cake which I hear is out of this world! When I do go, I usually deviate between the mini cakes, cupcakes or cheesecakes. *NOTE* Their sugar-free cheesecakes are a solid option for those looking to limit their sugar intake. You won't taste it and want to gag ( some sugar-free foods have that affect). I think it is actually very flavorful. I also like that they have late hours which is rare for a bakery. They stay open later than many other restaurants in Pleasanton as well. To be clear, they have temporarily modified their hours during Shelter in Place. Now you'll have to call beforehand to place an order and pick-up the items outside of the shop. The one downside to this place is that they are pretty pricey, especially for the sizes that you get. This is NOT the place to find "bang for your buck," but it certainly is a worthwhile treat if you want a quality, fresh dessert that will satisfy your sweet tooth. read more
