I've been here several times and everything has been a hit so far! I've gotten a couple of things, the cowboy cookie, the bearclaw, a mini pecan pie, a pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving - those are the only things I can think of off the top of my head. Everything was yummy! The bearclaw in particular, I think about it all the time because it was sooo good. Perfectly sweet, so soft on the inside, but still crisp on the outside. Walking by the bakery always draws you in because it smells so good! The staff is also really nice and patient, I'm super indecisive and they have so many options it's hard to chose! read more

I received many compliments on the chocolate cream pie and chocolate torte...I will order them again for future dessert needs. The staff was efficient in retrieving orders and made waiting in line for pick-up orders move smoothly. Did someone say dessert? If yes, proceed to Primrose Bakery located in downtown Pleasanton. I came here with my posse after we did the 2-1/2 hour Ghost Walk through downtown Pleasanton last Friday night. It's a lovely establishment filled with an assortment of desserts such as my personal favorite cannoli's! They even have dog treats! The staff is super friendly too. Stopped into Primrose Bakery and grabbed a few treats: a cannoli, a chocolate pastry, and the Princess pastry. The cannoli had a perfectly crisp shell and lovely creamy filling and the chocolate pastry was pretty yummy. My daughter loved the princess pastry. I would encourage all to try their pastries if you are in the area. read more

The first time we came here, it was genuinely enjoyable. I don't remember exactly what we ordered, but we tried 7+ items and most of them were solid--we left with a good impression overall. We stopped by again today hoping to relive that experience, but unfortunately, it didn't hold up. We ordered the red velvet cheesecake, tres leches cake, princess cake, raspberry and chocolate raspberry hamantashen, maple bourbon eclair, and rhubarb pie. This time? Yikes--we couldn't finish any of them. Most items tasted bland or felt like they weren't fresh. It left us wondering if they had been sitting out for a while. It's possible that timing matters--we came on a Saturday last time, and maybe the freshness or quality is better earlier in the weekend. Some bakeries separate their items based on when they were baked, and that kind of transparency could make a big difference. We'd consider giving it one more try, but today's visit was a letdown. read more

I stopped by just to browse around and found this gem! The pastries are legit (I was so hungry I forgot to take pictures. I got the hazelnut cake, macarons, chocolate croissant, and maple bourbon eclair. Everything was amazing but the maple bourbon eclair was too sweet for my taste. Stop by to check out this place! So I got suckered into their ice cream sandwich scam. I see the sandwich board on the corner every time I'm in town. It's eaten away at my resolve over the months. I finally gave in this week. This place is a legitimate bakery, so it felt weird to order only an ice cream sandwich, but I was already committed to a plan. I had a mint chip ice cream sandwich using an M&Ms cookie and a Cowboy Cookie. The cookies were thick, which made the sandwich thick. I don't really like thick ice cream sandwiches. So I bailed out. I ate the ice cream from the middle and then ate the cookies as cookies. While the ice cream was average, the cookies were really, really good. High end bakery cookies. Service was friendly and there was a wide selection, so I'm rounding the review up to 5* and will try more traditional baked goods (or maybe just more cookies) another time. read more

I have bought multiple types of pastries and cakes from Primrose and have never been let down. The quality of their desserts is very good, each one flavorful, but not too cloying or sickly sweet. I especially like their chocolate cakes. They're chocolatey, but not too dense. Today I got a savory panikopita turnover that had feta and I think spinach? It was buttery and flaky and so good warmed up. Every time I go in to Promise, whoever is working the counter is pleasant and welcoming. Even better, they open early and stay open late! Stopped by on a whim to get dessert after having dinner on a Saturday evening. Such a nice surprise to find this little charming bakery. We ordered 3 different desserts. A pistachio cannoli which had ricotta cheese and pistachio cream filling encrusted with chopped pistachio, a cupcake and a petit four iced in white chocolate. All the desserts were perfect! My fiancé stopped by while I was getting a haircut next door. She opted for the mini croissants and a tiramisu. Tiramisu (4/5): not overly sweet! More on the spongey/cakey side rather than a very soft/creamy tiramisu. It was not dry at all. For some reason, the taste also reminded me of a cheesecake. Although it's not like a traditional tiramisu, it was still Mini Croissants (4/5): popped them in the toaster the day after. Quite flaky and not super sweet, which I enjoy. These taste more homemade compared to ones you'd get at Paris Baguette or other Asian bakeries. read more

I found the cutest little bakery. I can tell all of their items are made with love and the presentation is wonderful. They are on the pricey side, but after drinking a couple martinis I couldn't resist. They were the perfect treat to end the night. What I appreciate is how they are open late! Other bakeries could never. Next time, I'd love to try their wine and bread. It's a tiny place with seating outdoors and the vibe of downtown pleasanton gives such a unique vibe. Unfortunately the $68 lady finger, black and white butter cream cake I purchased for a family member's birthday lacked the freshness of rich chocolate and vanilla buttercream sweetness. Very bland! The lady fingers that surrounded the cake were stale, probably due to being in refrigeration too long. The inside of the cake was just as underwhelming as the outside of it. I don't live in the area. I live over by Concord, but I had met a friend for a late breakfast and I wanted some good bread and something sweet for later. After this visit, I can't wait to go back! Rye bread: so good! It's hearty and real bread, not like what you find on grocery shelves. It's not a strong rye, which I do love, but with its milder flavor profile I found it works with more foods. If I understood correctly, they don't make the bread and another baker supplies it under what I assume is a contract as it has a Primrose label. ***** Bourbon Maple Eclair ---- I can't stop thinking about it! So delicious!! The puff pastry was perfect. Real puff pastry isn't rubbery and too often that's what you get. This isn't just lazily filled with whipped cream like 90% of places when you get an eclair, it's half filled with a perfect custard and whipped cream. Now, as I write this I'm thinking maybe I shouldn't tell you all this, as then you'll go there and buy it all. But on the other hand, if you go and keep up love and demand this excellent bakery keeps doing their thing. My sincere compliments to the pastry chef! Chocolate cake: I got one of the personal sized, though really good for 2 people or 2 servings round cakes. I honestly don't know which cake I ended up with - could have been the salted caramel in. The sponge was light with a good flavor, the frosting etc had a good balance of sweetness. I recommend highly. It was the best cake of this style I've had in a long time. Presentation - all their offerings look amazing and if getting desserts to share with friends these will make a lovely visual presentation and delight the palates. Oops! No photos. Guess I'll have to go back soon and correct this error:) Go! Enjoy! read more

This beautiful bakery caught my attention after work one day and I'm so glad my husband and I decided to come in. There were so many delicious goods to choose from, from crème brûlée and cannolis to dozens of different cookies. We came in late so some items were sold out, but they still had plenty to choose from. I got a Florentine cookie along with a few other treats and this was easily the best Florentine I've ever had. Other packaged, store-bought versions are usually either too thick or bend like rubber since they're overly coated in sugar, or they don't have a good chocolate-to-almond ratio. This cookie, however, was perfectly thin and so crisp that it snapped, and it was delicious! The other cookies and pastries we got were enjoyed by our family, and we'll definitely be back! read more

We ordered a retirement cake from Primrose and it was a huge hit!! The cake was very moist, and orange filling was amazing! A lot of us have never had orange filling but it was great! What do you do during the break between a wedding ceremony and reception? Drive to the nearby downtown and buy an entire pie, of course! I was searching for the coffee cake I had bought last time we were at the farmers market here. Since it was too late for the farmers' market, pie would do it! They had such great pie options here - we narrowed it down between peach cobbler pie and chocolate pecan. We chose the peach cobbler pie. OMG, the pie was so fresh, and you can tell they make it that day with good ingredients. The crumble topping was baker's kiss, and we didn't even need to warm it up again for it to taste amazing. There is a mix of real peaches and then the jammy sort of interior. The crust was perfectly made. I loved the whole thing, and peaches aren't even my favorite flavor. It was the right choice! If you don't want to get pie, they have a whole bunch of other options like breads, little tarts/cakes, pastries, cookies, etc. Also, what bakeries are open until 9:30 or 10 PM, especially in a small town? read more

Ordered 4 items peanut butter cookie gotta say it was my least favorite of the 4 items oatmeal raisin cookie it was tasty,a apricot hamantash very tasty large butter triangle butter cookie filled with apricot and dusted with sugar amd last a chocolate covered raspberry hamantash it was yummy definitely my favorite. The second best thing about primrose is how late they're open. Dining in Pleasanton, and not sure about the dessert menu? Don't despair! Head over to primrose! We've ordered superb tasting and beautiful cakes, and we've also spontaneously stopped in for a small cheesecake round (Blondie's favorite), slice of carrot cake (my favorite), or a cannoli. Meet the Business Owner: Jessica E.

Jessica Eiland's experience has taken her on a twenty year journey through a variety of art schools, professional baking and head chef positions, and solo cake decorating enterprises. She is classically trained as a European Cake and Pastry Chef and most notably trained and apprenticed under Larby Amamou for ten years. Before buying Primrose Bakery in 2014, Jessica owned the five star bakery Eiland Cakes in Berkeley, CA.

From start to finish, the experience was flawless. The team sat down with me to carefully discuss the design, size, and color palette. The baker had the brilliant idea to model the cake artwork directly after our invitation design, which added such a beautiful, cohesive touch to the party. The carrot cake itself was magnificent--perfectly balanced, incredibly delicious, and gorgeous to look at. Guests are still raving about it! Recently I went to primrose bakery to buy bread and was so saddened by an incident that happened between either the manager or owner of the business. This lady was shouting at one of her employees a young lady, I may not know what triggered the whole episode but I'm sure there is a way to address issues The lady was very rude to the young lady and even disregarded the fact that customers were in the bakery. It is just not right to treat your fellow humans like trash and disrespectfuly.I felt so bad for this young lady who I can see was in tears. This bakery is my go-to for every occasion. The staff is consistently super friendly and helpful, even when they're overwhelmed with customers and questions. I've tried their peach pie, which was a hit for Thanksgiving, and more recently, their apple pie. Additionally, I've indulged in a few mini cakes, mostly chocolate, and they've all been delightful. They strike the perfect balance--not too sweet, not too dark. My absolute favorite is the princess cake, crafted just right. It's so good that even my niece loves it. I love cute little bakeries. And this place really satisfies any sweet tooth. Their selection is pretty amazing. I wish there was more seating room and that they had better hours (I think they're closed on Mondays which is when I want sweets most, and they close pretty early in the day so it's hard to get anything after work). But if you don't want to sit and snack with friends, and you can make it in while their doors are open, their baked treats are sooooo goood. I might hire some high schoolers to go on bakery runs for me during the day so I don't have to quit my job to be able to come here. read more

I ordered apple fritters(3.25), French crueller (2.75), blueberry old fashioned (2.20). -definitely tasted fresh. Cruellar melted in my mouth, fritter crunchy texture, apple essence, old fashioned slightly dense, cake like. -not over sugared like others. Quick, courteous, efficient service. Flavas lacked pronounced definitions. Still ok. 4ish stars for now. If I can get up early one day, it'll be 5 stars to taste the super sellers.
