I gave this salon a second chance because my first visit was about 70% of the way there. The first visit, it was still too dark and the line of demarcation was visible, but it was close enough that I thought with a little feedback we'd get to the result I wanted. Instead, the second visit was worse. I brought reference photos and clearly explained that I wanted the color lighter and warmer. Instead, I left with an even darker, splotchy gloss and the same visible line of demarcation. When I pointed this that the color was not what I requested, I was repeatedly told it "looked good" and would fade instead of fixing it while I was still in the chair. Throughout the appointment I kept hearing about how busy the stylist was and that she had no idea how I'd been squeezed into the schedule. As a paying client who booked in advance, I shouldn't feel like an inconvenience. During my first visit I explained I was recovering from a concussion. Before this appointment, I explained I'd recently been in the ER because of neck issues and couldn't comfortably lean back at the shampoo bowl. I said I didn't mind getting a little wet if it helped. Instead, the back of my dress was completely soaked. The stylist joked that she'd "never gotten anyone this wet before," said she'd dry it, then walked away within seconds and left me sitting there soaked. The stylist also didn't bother drying enough of my hair to properly check the final color before I left. The atmosphere was equally strange. One stylist greeted me with a hug when I walked in despite only having met me once before. It all felt overly familiar and performative rather than client-focused. Why hug me? We aren't friends, and frankly - I don't like you. I don't mind paying premium NYC salon prices. What I expect in return is technical skill, attention to detail, and someone who listens to what I'm asking for. Instead, I felt like the salon projected confidence while missing very basic fundamentals. Listening to the client, executing the service properly, and checking the finished result shouldn't be optional. I'm genuinely not sure why so many NYC salons cultivate this kind of self-important atmosphere. It doesn't feel client-focused, it feels like you're expected to trust the stylist unquestioningly, even when the technical execution falls short. I'm not looking for a refund. I'm sharing this so other clients know what my experience was before they book. I won't be following up with any outreach or response. read more

abs recommend this salon for colour. it's sleek, clean, friendly, comfortable chic, well appointed salon, and, obv most important: they abs 100% REALLY know hair colour. I've tried (5) other high end salons since my former best colourist moved out of state about 2 years ago before finding Prince & Broad (thank you Ively!) . I couldn't be happier! I abs love the work they did today, my hair is again now abs perfect (seamless caramel dimension on dark brown hair). Prince & Broad got me the 'caramel dimension on my naturally dark brown hair' I was aiming for while covering my grey roots; they had to do that covering up highlights another salon had done and that had turned out cringe-brassy. speaking spec to brunettes: esp because we're in sunny season, because brunettes know highlights and summer sun often go to 'brass', i.e., this salon should be every brunettes Go To to quickly correct that brassiness (they'll even give you some tips on how to minimise sun, salt water and chlorine damage). Edit: Somebody is trying really hard to have my post deleted. This should be a huge red flag for you as they are obviously trying to cover something up instead of reaching out to genuinely try and fix things. Also note that they deleted my photos off the main gallery, but you can clearly see I had uploaded them with my post. Pathetic. I met Sean Rodgers on Broadway, who tried to sell me a promotional discount with Patti Gray, a hair stylist, who rents a chair from Prince + Broad. I told him I have a salon I go to that specializes in Asian hair, after which he told me that the hair stylist he promotes for specializes in Asian and Indian hair. So I decided to give it a try, and brought a coupon from him for $40. In retrospect I believe he is a total scammer and only told me what I wanted to hear, because in no way on this planet does Patti Gray specialize in the hair types he stated. Do not fall for his scam. And especially don't buy coupons off the streets from ramdon strangers. Learn from my mistake. So I made an appointment with Patti by calling her phone number on the pamphlet, and saw her Tuesday night. I showed her a photo reference of what I would like to get, which is a balayage shown in the photos I've attached. I asked her a few times if she is able to do that, and she confidentally said YES. I trusted her with my hair, and what ensued was a complete nightmare. First of all, she had no idea what she was doing. I asked for balayage, and (in retrospect I found out) she gave me highlights from the very top of my head, with splotchy rectangular random pieces of bleached and brassy brown spots. What in the world. The first time she foiled my hair with bleach, but somehow left out a lot of my natural black hair by I guess using a highlighting method with her comb? Then she proceeded to place me under a heater, and almost hit my head with the thing twice. I wasn't even moving. Once, okay. But twice?! What was she doing? Was she on drugs? Then we rinsed out the bleach, and she proceeded to add something else to my hair (I am obviously not a hair stylist and there was no mirror for me to see what she was doing at the sink with my hair). She was very rough with it, slapping my hair and rubbing them together like they were two pieces of cloth, generally not being gentle with it. Then we went back to the chair and she combed my hair out, but was SO rough with my newly bleached hair, I couldn't believe it. It hurt just to listen to her jank the comb through my hair. Then she blow dried it, and what came out was a complete mess. As she was blow drying it, she told me that this is not what she pictured and she wasn't happy with the results. I said I agreed and asked her if she could fix it. She said she will. So we did the whole thing one more time. It doesn't make any sense why we did it another time with her leaving black strands out again even though I requested a balayage. But I left the salon at 1.30am crying, I was so upset. I know she felt bad. She even admitted that she over-promised what she was capable of doing. Obviously. But still made me pay over $100 for it. I was so shocked with what she did to my hair, and we were the only people left in the salon at that point, that I was too scared and shocked to even fight, I just let her swipe my credit card. I considered having her fix my hair the next day given how late it was, but I didn't think she would be capable of fixing it, if she was able to destroy my hair so badly in the first place, so I didn't go back. This woman should not be a hair dresser. This woman should NOT have her license. Given the nature of this salon of individual hair stylists (or want to be stylists) renting chairs, I believe there is no owner responsible for this place, so there is no way for fixing this. All I can do is go online and write an honest review, hoping this woman won't destroy any other people's hairs, and hoping Sean will stop selling these coupons to people on the streets, knowing she is not capable of handling his promises. I went to my go-to salon to get my hair fixed and paid a lot of money and time to have them undo what Patti did to me. They said they have never seen anyone destroy someones hair so badly, that claims to be a professional. Do not go here. read more

Looking back on it, it's funny to me how I almost missed out on the greatest haircut I've ever had lol. This random guy on the street stopped me to talk about this salon in Soho doing a groupon like deal. It's $80 for a haircut, blow out, gloss, some highlights and a further discount on the next haircut. I'm not going to lie to you it sounded very sus to me. I told him I want to look it up on my phone, do some research and he was so relaxed and patient with me as I took MY TIME. I validated everything he was saying and saw that since other people have done this promotion and have had positive experiences, why not? :) I bought it and made my appointment the following week with Patti. First things first, she gave me one of the most thorough consultations I have ever received. We talked a bit on the phone when I made my appointment, but when I got in the chair she really reconfirmed my trust that she knew what she was doing. She really went above and beyond to meet my needs. When she finished my hair it was absolutely breathtaking. I didn't even know my hair could do that LOL. I have been getting soooo many compliments, it made feel like a super star. I love the Balayage. I finally found a stylist I love. You slay :) read more

Review for Sobeida and Cynthia (although everyone else there is lovely as well): After my hairstylist/colorist of 5+ years decided to retire a week before my scheduled appointment, I quickly (very quickly) needed to find a new salon. Anyone who takes pride in their hair knows how difficult and daunting a task this is. One bad highlight can ruin a season. I spent hours combing through reviews until I finally came upon Prince + Broad. I called, explained my hair situation, and had an appointment scheduled with Sobeida and Cynthia. People of Google reviews, before meeting Sobeida and Cynthia, I thought I had great hair. Yes, it only kept volume for an hour (max), and yes, I wore it in a bun six days out of the week, but great hair. I was so innocent. Since my first appointment with those fantastic ladies, I rarely wear my hair up anymore. Why? Because my hair is finally living up to its full health potential. The color is magnificent, the cut is classic and sleek, and how it makes me feel is priceless. Sobeida and Cynthia are not only masters in their crafts, but they are also lovely, friendly, and funny people. Dallace has been doing my color for 25 years! She is probably the best colorist in the world - or at least in NYC. She knows her stuff, and has never left me feeling disappointed, ever. She is the only one I will ever trust with my hair. I moved to the NJ Shore about 18 years ago, but still schlep to NYC to get my hair done with Dallace every 5 weeks! No one else will do. Patti is amazing. When I was trying to grow my hair out for my wedding she was somehow able to trim it without me losing ANY length. No dead ends and no length lost. It was like magic! During this time she also worked with me to transition back to my natural color by letting it grow out and tinting/glossing to keep my hair color as consistent as possible. The man here who claims he is in charge of marketing, I believe his name started with an M, Michael or something....I don't remember, I tried to block that interaction out of my memory. He was one of the rudest people I've ever met in my entire life. He was trying to recruit girls on the street for a promotion this salon was running, and I happened to be the unlucky one he chose to talk to. Although it may have been a good deal, I like to do my research on places first before dropping 80+ bucks on a random guy on the street claiming to sell you something. The second I declined, he ripped the pamphlet out of my hand, and mumbled some rude remarks under his breath. I gotta admit, I would have loved to find a go-to salon, since I just go whatever stylist is closest and has availability. If you want a master colorist who can take you from a ginger princess to a unicorn bride, Rachel Flores is the woman for you. I've been pastel pink, pastel purple, platinum blonde, copper-- nearly every color of the rainbow. Not to mention highlights and ombre. She is incredibly talented in both basic colors and the more adventurous shades. It's rare to have that level of trust in a stylist and colorist, but I feel like when I sit in her chair, I know she's going to work her magic, no matter what I'm asking for. So I can't speak to the services the salon provides, but I can say that their marketing employees that bombard you on the streets are pushy, unprofessional rude and extremely intimidating. SUCH A SCAM!! Looks like I am not the only one that feels this way, I see a post below noting the exact same thing. A man bombarded me on the street trying to sell a promotion to the salon which turns out is illegal because I highly doubt he has a general vendor license. Told him I did not have my wallet to pay, but insists I can pay with venmo. After opening venmo I tell him I'm not interested but he proceeds to pull himself up by using my phone to scan his code. He tells me I can get a refund if I am not satisfied, so I do it to get him to leave me alone. After pushing his hip-hop materials on me, I try and cancel the refund as soon as I am far enough away from him, to which he refuses. I call the salon and they say there is nothing they can do, he works for an individual employee. I call the employee - Patti - who tells me to cancel the venmo request, which it turns out I cannot do. This salon knows the type of marketers they are hiring and says they can't do anything to help me get my money back. SUCH A SCAM!!! read more
