My old Epson Stylus Pro 3880 served me well for over 14 years. But when it started leaking black ink, I discovered after calling around greater San Diego that Printer Repair Depot was the ONLY local repair facility that would work on it. Unfortunately, they discovered that Epson no longer has parts available for repair, and their searches elsewhere, like Ebay, yielded nothing. So, after opening up the machine and working through inky, gummed parts, there was no labor charge, except the the initial charge of $20 when I left the printer. Since "the patient died," as they said, the charge was used to recycle the dead printer. I did have to call them to get updates on the status, but their work seemed diligent. read more

I took it here and was told it could take 7 days before I got it back since they had to order the part. This company needs a lesson in customer service and how to do proper work. I have two experiences on different items and both times service was subpar. I hate leaving bad reviews, but the owner should have some idea of the customer's side. The first time I brought my roomba in to get repaired. The issue ended up being the motherboard so it couldn't be repaired without a major repair cost. I'm not leaving a bad review on that. The issue was I didn't hear from them for over a week after I dropped it off. And I had to call multiple times to get any sort of update. Most times when I called the guy I spoke to had no idea of the status and couldn't give me a status report even after many hours of waiting for one. The second time I brought my printer in because it wasn't printing black. I explained the problem and this time the customer service was better. I got a call after 2 days and the guy explained the problem, said he fixed it and how to keep it fixed going forward. The problem was when I brought it home, it had the exact same problem!! I call the guy to tell him i'm having the same problem as when I brought it in and he tells me to bring it in again for him to look at. I mean... That's pretty good. All in all, I'd recommend finding a different place to get electronics fixed. Hopefully the 'Printer Repair Depot' is better at fixing printers other than my own. read more

I paid for diagnostic repairs recommended by Brothers USA to take my multi-function printer here. I found out after calling a number of times that there was nothing wrong with the printer. I had to call Brothers again to get the printer connected again. It took numerous phone calls at Printer Repair to tell me that their was no need for repair. I had a Brother MFC-J6935DW printer repaired. The printer has been working great a month or so after the repairs. It needed a main PCB because it randomly powered on by itself. Since the board was expensive, they told me the printer would be fine without spending that much on it. I appreciate that they weren't trying to take my money. I've been taking my older model brother printer here lately and I have to say, I'm very happy. The guys are always very helpful, they fix the issues and don't up charge or add hidden cost. This last time I took my printer here I found out I had to replace the drum unit and right now with me being in school full time I just don't have the extra funds. Everyone told me to throw away my printer and just buy a new one at Costco. I am crazy granola. I will not throw away anything I can't recycle or repair. My neighborhood computer-PC guru recommended these guys while at the same time suggesting I get rid of my printer, lol! They repaired my sheet-feeder in 2 days for less than the price of a new printer, including time to order the part. And the repair came with a 90 day guarantee to boot. Excellent customer service - they called to leave a VM for the estimate once they detected the problem and another when the job was done. The facility was immaculate, not exactly what you might expect of a repair shop. I could see into the back room and it was tightly organized and no-one was slacking. I couldn't be happier. My old workhorse of a printer, a Brother DCP 7020 that's maybe 8 years old, stopped feeding paper. It looked like I needed a new feed roller assembly. I tried to get the $18 part online but it was backordered indefinitely from multiple vendors (my printer isn't in production any more), so I seriously considered just buying a new $500 printer. I tried this place out on a recommendation from a friend, as a last ditch effort before dropping the cash on a new printer. I dropped it off on Thursday morning, telling Dan that it was my only office printer and I needed it back ASAP. He quoted me 1 week and $90 for parts and labor, and said he'd try to get to looking at it sooner. I got a call Friday afternoon that it was ready, didn't need a new assembly and just needed to be cleaned and re-scored. Picked up Saturday morning (they're open Saturdays!!!) for $50, labor only. And to think I almost just bought a new printer! These guys knew I was in a tough place, knew I had been quoted and was ok with $90, and really could have taken advantage of me. So I really like these guys and I want to rate them higher, especially since I'm sure I'll eventually be back, and would honestly recommend them to a friend, but service was a little spotty. I dropped off my printer on a Friday morning and they said that they'd give me an estimate by the following Monday. The guy was really friendly and helpful. When I hadn't heard from them by Monday afternoon, I called them. They said that they didn't have an estimate yet, but they would within a couple of hours and would call me by end of day. I didn't hear from them that day, so called them on Tuesday, and the guy who answered seemed exasperated and frustrated that I was calling. I finally got a quote on Wednesday, and it was done shortly after that. When I picked it up on Friday, it was the same super nice guy in the shop. Again, we had a lovely conversation, and he even helped to take my printer to my car. I'm not sure what's up with the service inconsistencies -- maybe they're a bunch of anti social people working there, with one super nice guy they send to the front when anyone comes in. Who knows. I didn't really care when they had my estimate done as long as it was in a reasonable time, I just wish they could've given me a do-able timeline and followed up with it. It seems like they did a good job on the printer. All told, it was about $75 for the fix, which included 3 ink cartridges, which I thought was pretty good. read more
