I didn't want just any wedding planner though- I wanted someone who had a similar personality to mine, who could match my energy and really elevate my ideas and execute the vision I had for our big day. My now husband and I met with several planners. I am a huge 'vibes' person, and all of the planners I met with just didn't seem like the right fit. I felt like I was just another wedding to them and didn't feel like the attention to us would be individualized or prioritized. That is, until we found and met with Courtney from Sweetchic Events!! From the very start, it felt like I was catching up with an old friend. Courtney is so kind, super knowledgeable in what she does, and is honestly one of the coolest people I have ever met. At our initial meeting, we joked and laughed as my husband and I shared our ideas, and she immediately had some incredible ones of her own! Courtney was a calming presence to my chaotic mind, and immediately made my husband and I both feel at ease. We knew we had to have her on our team- she was the PERFECT fit and we both were so excited to start working with her! Courtney is a true professional in her work. She has connections with some incredible vendors, who like herself, have insanely creative minds. Together, we were able to turn our wedding into more than I ever thought possible! Courtney is also EXTREMELY organized, detail oriented and always prompt. She is also one of the most reliable people that I have ever met!Throughout the wedding planning process, there was never a time that I felt like Courtney wasn't there for me. In fact it was truly the opposite- she continuously went above and beyond for me, making sure I felt comfortable and ready for the big day in any capacity she could. She constantly checked in, listened to my crazy ideas while keeping me grounded, connected us with some of the absolute BEST vendors, reminded us of due dates and deadlines, and made sure that both my husband and I were feeling good throughout the whole process. On my wedding day I was jumping out of my skin because I was so ready to see Courtney and watch the magic we created together unfold! She of course brought such calm, positive vibes and joined in my excitement for the day that was to come!! I had been so impressed with her and her work thus far that I didn't think it could possibly get any better. When I tell you she CRUSHED the entire day, she honestly CRUSHED IT!!! From the second she walked in the door to the second she (sadly, haha) left, she was a well oiled machine. Literally. A machine! She never stopped- she was so prepared, like a level of preparedness I'd never witnessed in anyone and I was really just completely blown away by her and her assistant, Mia throughout the entire day! Everything was ACTUALLY PERFECT (from my eyes and that's why she is so good at what she does) because I never knew about any little mishaps or minor issues, because there weren't any by the time Courtney arrived to the scene! Mia was also SO great!! She was always there when I needed something, and was also such a calming presence for me which was so appreciated! One of the most memorable parts of the day was my entrance to walk down the aisle. I had chosen a Taylor Swift orchestral mash-up and wanted to enter at a VERY specific time. Courtney had already explained to me that timing these things can be very very difficult, and that it might not happen at the exact moment I wanted it to. I went forward with the plan because in my mind, I had no doubts- I knew she would do whatever she possibly could to make it happen and that it would look amazing regardless. Times like these are the reason why we leave things up to Courtney, because it was literally SPOT ON!! It was so incredible! I am still getting text messages from friends about how awesome the timing of the entrance was! It is a feeling I will never forget and I owe it all to Courtney. I honestly didn't want the day to end, and Sweetchic Events made it all possible!! It truly says something that I was always SO excited to see Courtney. Planning meeting days, tastings and walk throughs were always something I looked forward to because I got to spend more time with her! As a guest at a wedding coordinated by Courtney of Sweet Chic, I was surprised by the level of…read moreunprofessionalism I witnessed throughout the event. The coordinator came across as condescending and dismissive when interacting with both guests and vendors. Rather than helping create a welcoming and organized atmosphere, her attitude often felt rude and unnecessarily abrasive. There also appeared to be significant communication issues with vendors. Several moments throughout the day seemed disorganized, and it was evident that vendors were not always clear on their specific responsibilities. This led to confusion and delays that could have easily been avoided with proper coordination. Courtney's response when asked for clarification of duties was " It was not her job." And "I have a contract in writing if you need to see it." Perhaps most concerning was that the Courtney left the event before the evening was over, leaving others to manage issues that arose later in the celebration. For a service that is meant to ensure a seamless experience from start to finish, this was disappointing to witness. The guests were left helping the vendors clean up the event so that the happy couple could enjoy their evening. The bride and groom deserved a coordinator who would help make their special day stress-free and enjoyable. Unfortunately, based on what I observed as a guest, Sweet Chic Wedding Coordinators did not deliver the level of professionalism, communication, or customer service that I would expect.

Every day since we wed, we've raved to each other about how pleasant the day went and how seamless everything was--especially as we've listened to nightmare stories of friends + family trying to plan weddings during COVID. We first met with Becky in March after confirming our date with Chicago's city hall. She was super professional over Zoom and answered all of our questions about the order of the day, what we should bring, and what to expect from her. In addition to her beautiful photography skills, we also decided to work with her hair and makeup team for our wedding day. She connected us to everyone we'd be working with and the whole process went so smoothly. Becky was available via email and text starting from the day we reached out all the way to the moment we met her at city hall. She always responded within hours--super helpful for us--and no questions were left unanswered. She also had a great grip on the logistical aspects of navigating city hall during COVID, which was super handy. On the day of our wedding, our makeup artist, Carla, arrived at our hotel at 6:00am and did our hair and makeup perfectly, based on the pictures we sent in advance. Becky met us at city hall at 9:00am sharp and after getting hitched at the courthouse, took us to several (probably 10-15?) different locations downtown to shoot... plus one spot in Wicker Park we'd specifically requested to have photos taken. My partner and I asked her to coach us through poses and Becky was brilliant, asking us to walk towards her laughing, sneak up on each other, hold kisses for a few moments, and spin in ways that made our clothes shine. Nothing felt awkward or forced. Thus far, we've only received the preview photos from our elopement, but each one is an absolute stunner and SUCH an accurate portrait of our love. OH! And I have to mention, Becky thinks of EVERYTHING. Rain was forecasted on our wedding day, and Becky came equipped with two clear umbrellas. She also brought a tote filled with water, tissues, and gum. It was the perfect place to store my purse and our treats for later plus Band-Aids for when our shoes got pinchy. If I could get married all over again, I'd choose Elope to Chicago in a heartbeat. Our original plan was to take a vacation…read moresomewhere warm in March and elope there, so when everything in Illinois shut down the very week before our original date, I was crushed. We waited a couple months for Cook County to figure out how to grant marriage licenses virtually. Becky, the owner and photographer behind Elope to Chicago, was one of our top two choices when we were finalizing new elopement plans this summer. She won our business because she was so helpful and helped us solve dilemmas!! We hadn't really explored venues here -- all we cared about was outdoors with some shade from the sun, and safe for our handful of guests -- so we valued her suggestions and flexibility with nailing down a new location, time/date, and an officiant. Prior to our wedding date, we had virtual meetings to plan out the details of our outdoor ceremony and photo session. We discussed our COVID safety precautions in detail -- what we were doing, what our 4 guests were doing, what our official and photographer would each be doing to make it as safe as possible for all involved. We also met with our officiant Jill, who helped us write our vows and personalized our ceremony based on what she learned about us. On our wedding morning, everything was EASY and my biggest stress was doing my own hair and makeup because Elope to Chicago took care of everything else. Our photos are AMAZING! Becky's photos capture the warmth and intimacy we share as a couple, and she had great suggestions for a few playful shots. Really happy to support this local, woman-owned business!

Where to begin....let's start with the positive. He puts on a good show and the ceremony does turn…read moreout nice. That's all the positive he is getting from me. The Negatives 1. Took him two reminder phone calls to please cash the deposit check. 2. Our over the phone "ceremony preperation call" was brisk, cold, and strictly business. 3. The rehearsal dinner was a nightmare...he had me almost in tears. He himself was late which was no big deal. It was Thurs. at 6:30 in the summer with Chicago traffic and construction so totally understandable. Guess what? Some of my bridal party were stuck in the same stuff. He was impatient and wanted to start without them. When I said no he became visibly agitated and informed my fiance when I walked away that his girlfriend was waiting for him in the car. Like I give a rats ass that you brought your gf on a business engagement. My dad noticed I was upset and confronted Tom and asked him to give me a break and to not add to the stress. TOM GOT IN HIS FACE, RAISED HIS VOICE, and ASKED MY DAD, "and who the he*l are you?" Things escalated to the point where my dad had to point out my massive brother and ask if we were going to have problems. 4. He is only in it for the money. My Dad (during above stated confrontation) asked him at one point where he was from. Tom told him Indiana. My dad said "Indiana? What are you doing all the way out here?" I quote verbatim Tom's answer, "This is where the money's at." Who says that? He is so unprofessional in dealing with customers. 5. He was completely unprepared for the rehearsal dinner. What was the point of the ceremony prep phone call if you weren't going to take notes and be prepared for our rehearsal dinner? He had no notes on what we wanted in our ceremony let alone the order we wanted things. Didn't remember we wrote our own vows and had letters written to each other instead of readings. I had to send someone back to my house to get a program so we could go over the right order of events. 6. At the end of the rehearsal, he pulls my fiance and I aside and asks us if we are going to replace him with another officiant and if so he wasn't going to bother to show up. I had to swallow my anger and pride and kiss his stupid butt to ensure I had an officiant for the wedding the next day! He reuined my night and my getting ready time with the girls the next day since all I could think about was what if he doesn't show. All in all, it was a heart breaking experience. You put so much time and effort in to your "big day" and this guy just put a huge damper on the start to the rest of our lives. Thank god the rest of our vendors and the Seville gave us our dream day!

We were very pleased and delighted with how the ceremony worked out. We had an outdoor ceremony planned, but unfortunately it rained, so we had to move the ceremony to our reception location (the Signature Room). Tom was there on time and had enough time to keep my Groom calm before our big entrance. He took the time to brief my wedding party and myself and ease our nerves before our big moment, which was a big help. We really enjoyed his ceremony, we are not religious people but the words were still very spiritual and well versed. We also chose not to have a rehearsal with Tom, but he did take the time to have a planning session with us. It was very informative and shed some light on how the ceremony should play out so we were not in the dark about what to do. Our guests all had nothing but kind things to say about our ceremony and enjoyed it just as much as we did. Thanks to Tom and Day of Dreams! Two thumbs up!

I figured that if they were being featured on my favorite wedding blog, they would probably be pretty awesome. I'm happy to say, I was right! I had my first meeting with Katherine and Morgan (the two brains behind the operation) a few days ago at Alliance Bakery. Bonus points for picking a meeting spot that was not Starbucks! Both of them are super friendly and warm so it was easy to be myself around them. We were meeting to talk about their DOC service, so they asked tons of questions about my plans and had lots of thoughtful suggestions. Jenny is more much than a coordinator. My mom had a small stroke about 6 weeks before our wedding…read more Jenny went from day-of-coordinator to a life raft. I will never forget, after sending her the email explaining my mom's situation, Jenny calling me almost immediately - literally just offering her ear. After letting me express all my fears, tears, and anxieties - she got to work. She encouraged me to take a beat to feel all the feelings, and then insisted we have another call a day or two later so I could "brain dump" everything wedding on her. Jenny was able to take that unorganized, jumbled mess of a phone call and spit out a highly detailed, actionable, and prioritised to-do list that broke down not only what I had to do, my husband had to do, but she took on things that MY MOM was supposed to do. I cannot tell you how much this was appreciated - it makes me teary eyed just thinking about her kindness and how she went above and beyond to ensure our wedding day was a spot of brightness and hope amongst the dark weeks leading up to it.
