If you're seeking an appliance, they probably got it, from residential items to commercial. Prices can feel a bit high for used items, but I recognize this is a local business and let's face it things are definitely more expensive nowadays. The team was very friendly- I needed assistance with a coin op washer we had purchased. They helped me troubleshoot and provided advice. Where things kind of fell down was followup was clearly not an importance. After troubleshooting I wanted to purchase a spare part which had to be ordered. Gave my info, was told would take a few weeks. Few weeks, nothing. Followed up after hearing no response and still nothing. While the crew was very friendly unfortunately the after service appears to be spotty - whether the smaller purchase just wasn't worth their time or what I do not know. So just be prepared to make sure very clear on time lines and expectations. read more

UPDATE ON FREEZER May 12, 2026 My 1st review was written on Nov 6, 2025 for a freezer that stopped working. Private Appliance FINALLY took the freezer to their shop, about a week after I posted that review, and after their 'diagnosis' they said they would need to replace the compressor at no charge to us. That seemed fair. So we waited...and waited...two weeks went by and after my husband called to find out the status, they said they replaced the compressor & scheduled a time to deliver it to our home. There would be no charge for the new compressor. The day came & went, there was no freezer delivered nor was there a phone call explaining why. We rescheduled another date for delivery and eventually got our freezer back (with the new compressor). It is interesting to note that the freezer was now missing 2 of the 4 internal shelves and Private Appliance said that yes, they had the shelve, forgot to put them back into the freeze and we could come get them AND PAY $150 for labor for swapping out the old compressor (what happened to the warranty coverage and "no fee"?). We decided to jury-rig some shelves in the freezer ourselves. Fast forward to today, 5 months later...after being away for a couple weeks we came home to a freezer full of thawed, rancid food...steaks, roasts, soups, sauces, shrimp, salmon...ALL THAWED and spoiled! We contacted a different appliance repair company & they sent someone out the very next day. After diagnosing the freezer on site, they determined that the compressor was NEVER replaced and was only filled with coolant, which apparently leaked out. The repair person explained how he could determine that the compressor was the original factory-installed one & could see where the coolant was put into the system. To say that were were scammed is an understatement. We will never step foot into Private Appliance again. Stay away from them. Spend a little extra money on an appliance. They are not trust-worthy, they have terrible customer service, they lie, they are unprofessional and should not be in business! Nov 6, 2025 Private Appliance of Johnston is not honoring the 1 year warranty on an appliance we purchased last year, a large standup - freezer November, 21, 2024. They indicated the appliance was NEW (why were the shelving racks dirty with what looked like food?). We have a written, one year warranty (parts and labor included) noted on the bill of sale to repair if the freezer fails. Private Appliance claimed we purchased it in Sept of 2024 & it was out of warranty, but when I sent them my bill of sale that is clearly dated Nov 21st, they had no recourse. As of mid Sept, 2025, the freezer stopped working and because we didn't know it stopped working right away, we lost a lot of food. Their repair person came to look at it once and indicated it might be the compressor, but could not fix it on-site. It would need to be taken away to their shop. After not hearing from the company, I once again called to find out when someone would come to my house to take the freezer back to their shop for repair. A pickup date was agreed upon but no one showed up. I had to call again to set up another pickup date...and the same thing happened. Then, they started NOT taking my calls. We have been communicating poorly since September of this year when malfunction first reported, in that they have not taken my calls and have not called me back more times than I can remember. I finally drove there to talk with them in person to resolve this matter and find out WHEN they would come take the freezer and repair it. They were supposed to come get it yesterday, and no phone call and no show. They have scheduled at least 4 times to pick up the freeze for repair and never showed and never called. I am concerned this will go on till after 11/21/25 and they will claim the freezer is out of warranty. We have just contacted Better Business Bureau to file a complaint and TurnTo10 for help! read more

This business is a scam. I paid to have a tech look at my freezer. I was given a whole explanation of what was wrong and what I needed to fix it. Never heard from them again even though I called several times. Guess what, there was nothing wrong, just a piece of ice stuck so the drawer didn't close. What a scam. Stay away!!! read more

What a rip off and joke this place is. I have a 4 year old dishwasher that stopped working. I paid these folks over $400 that included the house call to diagnose the problem. I paid over 300 for a new motor. Well guess what.... It died again. I went in today to what if anything they can do. First , the sloppy unprofessional guy couldn't locate my receipt. I had to help him. Once he found my receipt, he said so sorry so sad, we only guarantee the work for 90 days. Stay away from these scum bags. They will rip you off! read more

Stay away from Private Appliance. A house call costs $150. When I asked how much to repair an electric dryer he said $150-$200. Ended up being $300 for a just a heating element that's usually a stock item for them. I would have bought a new dryer if I'd know. Total ripoff if they'd have been up front knowing the house call was $150 up front. Total scam artists. read more

I am so DISGUSTED by the appliance that was delivered to my home. It was FILTHY. Refridgerator with mold growing on food remnants from the previous owner, slime, dried egg, mold in the water tubes and icemaker, hair (human and pet), smelled awful. Because I rent, this was purchased by my landlord or else I'd have sent them packing. So filthy. Took me over 2 hours to scrub it clean. They failed to mention that there's a $145 base charge for even the simplest of repairs. Never again. This must be the most unprofessional place I've come across. Fred gave my husband a quote to install a stove top after my husband stressed it was a 2 person job, Fred insisted he knows what needs to be done and sent one person. Of course that 1 person came and said he couldn't do it by himself and apologized for the "new people" in the office giving misinformation so he left and we needed to schedule 2 people to install. After rescheduling They raised the quote of install which we didn't feel was fair business practice but the girl in the front office said to talk to Fred and see if he'll waive the additional cost but Fred apparently won't speak with customers after he messes up. We agreed to pay the additional price but didn't feel as though it was a fair business practice so they canceled the install at the last minute. There was no yelling and my husband kept it very professional but apparently they didn't like his opinion. I could've had this installed 2 weeks ago without dealing with the ignorant people here. Word of mouth is crucial to a successful business, especially in this day and age. When you have horrible customer Services and business practices it will get around!!! read more

Terrible experience with the sales person. Make sure you know, when buying a gas stove if its propane or gas. According to the sales manager, it's not his responsibility to discuss this with you. It's your responsibility to know ahead of time. Bought a stove and refrigerator there. Never again. The stove doesn't work properly, and I have to pay a separate $90.00 service call and another $40.00 for a converter kit. When I called to inquire, the sales manager said he was all done with me, and hung up. We'll see what the Attorney Generals office has to say about this type of service. Never again!! Dont buy from here! Bought a Refigerator from them 2 months ago. I made it very clear I wanted one with water and ice maker. It was delivered and had a water leak. They sent the repair man out to fix. Fixed the leak then told me it need a water filter for the water to work. Sounded funny, but okay ordered one. Cost me almost $30! Well guess what.. Not because it needed a filter! Repair man came again... Was here about 20 min. End of day. Told me it was internal! So guess what your gonna give me a new fridge if you can't fix it.! Called and they said they would take care of it, get me a new one. Well almost 3 weeks later and several phone calls... With no phone calls back.. Still no new fridge! These guys are great. We were able to find the perfect used gas range, in the same price range as what I was seeing on craigslist. But with a six month warranty. $40 delivery and installation option was well worth it. We discovered a problem with the oven ignition and got to test out our warranty. They were really good at returning calls, and once we were able to connect, they were able to schedule a convenient repair appointment and got things working great. Went to Private appliance for a used electric dryer. The staff was helpful and I bought a Kenmore electric for a reasonable price. I brought it home, turned it on and it seemed to work but I didn't get around to using until Saturday. When I finally did use it there was no heat. It was a holiday weekend so I left a message. Rich alled me Tuesday morning and sent a tech over Wednesday afternoon. The tech was very friendly and replaced a "fuse" which seems to have the dryer working again. Hopefully that will be my happy ending. All in all I'm very happy with the service and the product. They offer 6 month warranties on what they sell and prices are reasonable. read more

This company deserves no stars. Contacted them for repair of a Fisher & Paykel washer. After setting up an appointment, got three more phone calls asking for brand and type of problem. Once here, took technician two minutes to diagnose problem and what part needed. After collecting the $125 service call fee, told me someone would contact me the next day with estimate of price and timing and that no labor would be charged to install. They never called. I called, even stopped at business location. Was told trying to get best price, trying to get three quotes, even after I told them I found the part on-line quoting them the price. After six days, we called again and got a price 21/2 times the on-line price from the manufacturer and would be charged to install. GOODBYE RIVATE APPLIANCE. The day after I called a tech came out and was helpful. But then when they were supposed to come and replace it, I was told between 8-9am they would arrive. They didn't arrive by 10am. I called multiple times and finally on my 6th call someone answered and then I was told it was out of their control that their technician arrived late to work so they didn't get to my place until 10:30, after I had already left because I have a job! read more

I bought a washer and dryer from private appliance. Dryer broke 4 times within 7 months. First 6 months were covered by warranty, but it was the same problem every time. The 4th time was just 2 weeks after it was "fixed" the third time. So they don't cover work they've just done, plus apparently they don't know how to fix the merchandise they sell. Almost forgot, when they tried to fix the dryer the first time I had to wait 10 business days for the parts to come in. You've been warned, stay away. read more

This place is a joke, if it wasn't for my landlord picking this place I would have never used it. My day off was devouted to a new fridge. My 10:30 appointment was completely blown, and my fridge did not show up until after 1:00. After all was said and done, the instillation crew put a huge gash in the wall and on my floors. I finally think that I am done with this place, and low and behold THE FRIDGE DOESN'T WORK!! Call after 2.5 hours, figuring I would give it time to cool down, but to no avail did that happen, and the guy said he would call me back, which he didn't, I had to call back. Only to find out it will be an hour before they send someone out. Now I have to go to a gig soon (musician) and there is no one home to let him in. I was in dire need of a washing machine and I was told Private Appliance had great brands and prices. I talked with an associate there and on the same day I had a whirlpool washing machine installed. An employee I believe named Rich came to my home right on time. He was friendly, polite and very knowledgeable about the washing machine. The whole experience was so easy and stressless. I could not believe I was getting a Whirlpool brand for that GREAT PRICE. I told him that whenever I'm in need of any other appliances or need something fixed, I will be sure to call on his company again. I learned that his company is family run.
