Every interaction felt confusing, communication was poor, and we constantly had to follow up to get basic information and paperwork completed. What should have been a straightforward experience turned into a frustrating and stressful one. The lack of organization and professionalism made an already important milestone much more difficult than it needed to be. There are plenty of other driving schools that value their students' time and provide better customer service. Unfortunately, this was a horrible experience, and I would not recommend this place to anyone.

Under his instruction, I went from being extremely anxious to ready to drive on freeways and LA streets and take my exam. My actual DMV driving exam was extremely traumatic but I still passed the first time, and everything Angel reviewed with me was highly applicable. For a long time, I was scared that I would have a horrible experience with any kind of driving program... I was afraid whatever instructor I got would be too harsh, wouldn't understand my situation, or would be impatient with my needs as an anxiety-ridden student. I feel so lucky to have found 1st Choice Driving School and my wonderful driving instructor Cris. From our very first session Cris was kind, empathetic, and patient. Just after our first few hours together he already had identified my weaknesses as a driver and what seemed to be triggers for my anxiety behind the wheel. He specifically catered the lessons to slowly chip away at my weak spots and challenged me at my own pace- understanding that moving too fast would could make my anxiety worse and letting me choose how fast we progressed based on confidence level. When I messed up, he corrected me kindly and calmly and made sure I knew exactly what the mistake was instead of getting impatient with me. He kept the energy in the car lighthearted, no matter how nervous I was, and was very funny! You can tell he is very passionate about his work and truly enjoys teaching his students. If all of this doesn't convince you how thoughtful of an instructor he is, he also quickly figured out how crazy people drive in my area of Los Angeles and planned our sessions around easier neighborhoods so that I wouldn't have to deal with the stress of tight streets and aggressive drivers. For years I genuinely thought I may never drive... But after a few months of spaced out lessons with Cris, I passed my driving exam first try with only 5 errors. He offered my recently 18-yr old to smoke from his pen, in addition to his side cash driving lessons business where we would save money vs. booking through the school. It took me 3 tries to actually speak with the manager (left a voicemail and then texted them twice). The manager pretended not to know what I was calling about and then proceeded to share details from the instructor's POV. So clearly she knew why I was calling. Instead of being apologetic and trying to remedy the situation, she pointed blame on my son and said it was his vape and he convinced the instructor to smoke. Look, I understand that kids are kids and I will never know the real truth. However, from a "professional" company NONE of this should be happening and the Manager should have address this correctly with her employee and with us (his parents). This is not ok especially with a kid who barely turned 18.

I tried to reason with her and told her i could pay half of it or something smaller because I couldn't make the lesson anymore due to having to move stuff around cuz of her mistake, to which she replied that the $50 wasn't available anymore and I'd have to pay the fee of the entire lesson. Today we drove around the DMV I will be taking the test on during rush hour. PROS: - Homer was right on time - He gave lots of useful tips/ rules that I overlooked/ did not know - He asked about my goals and we practiced around the DMV. He knew the exact route CONS: - Some parts of the car weren't working. The back camera and the button that adjusted the side view mirrors (not a big deal, I just did it manually) - When I was driving around where the test will be, he got really impatient. He was frustrated and made snappy comments and would say things under his breath when I missed what he said or when I did not get what he said the first time. Apparently I was too cautious. I was overwhelmed during rush hour and all he was telling me while driving that at one point he kind of aggressively said "you should know this- maybe you shouldn't take the test but take another lesson with me". That is why I booked the lesson for stuff I may have missed! He repeated it several times. I did not say anything and then asked if i had someone i can practice with/ car and I said yes. After, he after did say that practicing with anyone will be good. At the end he said that my driving wasn't bad and that I could pass the test. Not sure where the attitude came from then. Good touch up driving school with useful tips, but if you want a more chill and less stressful lesson/s I may consider another option.
