I've been suffering from back spasms & pain for four years, and did (on and off) three years of physical therapy / chiropractic treatment 2x a week. My physical therapists and chiropractor were great, but I plateaued at about 70% of my original strength, and just couldn't seem to get much better no matter how much effort I put into it. When I moved to the SGV, I started going to Pro Fitness because I saw the reviews about Carina's own back issues, and thought that this made more sense for me than a typical gym. Carina had me work with Katina (I've done mostly pilates with her, with a few physical training sessions tossed in) and Gary for myofascial massage. I can't say enough good things about them both! Whenever I mention to Katina that something doesn't feel quite right, she always comes up with a modification. She's a great cheerleader, which helps keep me motivated even if I'm struggling. And Gary's awesome at what he does -- my chiropractor for two years kept saying that I was very "locked up" on my left side but I had no idea what he meant until Gary spent 1.5 hours on my back and I suddenly, for the first time in YEARS, could feel my left shoulder blade freely moving. I love, too, that he's always taking more courses -- he knows a lot about anatomy and seems to be continually learning more. Thanks to their efforts the past six months, I'm probably close to 90% for most things, and better than I was before in others (I had TERRIBLE posture, which was probably part of the problem). read more

I have been working with Carina and her "Semi-personal" training program for almost a year now. I have found it to be a complete success. I prefer the small group environment (as opposed to the one-on-one personal trainers). I always feel that Carina knows exactly where I am in my development without having that "hovered over" feel. She is always completely professional while still providing a personal level of warmth and attentiveness. Regularly scheduled appointments keep me focused and I actually go twice a week and do a real workout -- something I was not always able to accomplish when I was trying to do it on my own. I have been working out with Carina twice a week for a year now. woohoo! The result is unbelievable and amazing. Before working out with Pro fitness, I was working out at local gym by taking step classes and yoga classes. I've suffered with plantar fasciitis for almost a year. As an avid hiker, this really put a damper on my normal activity. I signed up for a massage with Margie and found my first sign of relief! She is so knowledgeable and really gets in there and finds the root of the problem. I've had 4 massages with Margie so far, and each time the pain in my heel subsides more and more. I feel I'm on the pathway to recovery. I've been able to start easing back into longer walks. I have set up weekly appointments with her now to hopefully crush out this plantar fasciitis once and for all, and get back on the trails this summer. I can't recommend Margie highly enough. Over a year ago I went looking for a gym/studio that offered Pilates. After checking many of them out, I selected Fitness Pro. I wanted an intimate setting that would have personal service. I was tired of those gyms that made me feel like I was lost in a major metropolitan environment and had no service. Granted it was a much longer drive but since I am still with them that fact that I drive 20 miles to get there should speak volumes. Julie (my trainer) was exactly what I was looking for, tough and supportive. It was Julie's insights that allowed me to achieve success so quickly. I know I was able to achieve the quick results because working with Julie was like having the 'Cliff Notes' to Pilates. I am not talking short cuts here, Julie stays current in her field by going to seminars and workshops. Another advantage is having been in the fitness field for most of her life she blends many workout disciplines to keep the sessions challenging. I keep coming back because she changes it up, she inspires and as a result it is fun as well. With Pilates they say that after 10 sessions you feel it, after 20 you see it and after 30 others will notice it. Under Julie's tutelage and watchful eye I not only felt it, I saw the difference in less than 10 sessions. The best part was the man in my life noticed the difference and began making comments about my back side in less than 3 months (going twice a week). What better incentive is there? Had to come back home it pasadena to help my mom recover from her knee replacement. I have been training in San Diego and wanted to keep that up while being away from home. After searching yelp, I found Carina, owner of Pro Fitness and the great deal she offers. She offers semi personal sessions, first three for $45. What a great deal. Carina is very helpful and knowledgable. Even though there can be up to 6 people working out, she still keeps an eye on what you are doing and corrects your form. She does a good job of explaining the exercise as well. She ask if anything is hurting and doesn't "yell" at you if you say yes. I have completed 6 sessions and have continued my weight loss while being away from my regular routine. The atmosphere is very friendly and from what I can tell they do activities outside of the gym as well. It is nice to come to a safe place to workout and enjoy it too. Next time I am in Pasadena for an extended amount of time, I will contact Carina again. read more

After suffering a severe neck injury at work in which worker's compensation fought me for 8 years, I started going to Pro Fitness Network to finally start getting my life back. I began my journey having MFR therapy with Lara W. In one month of treatment with her, my 8 years of chronic pain was gone! I still see her every week for maintenance and to tackle any problems as they come up. She is incredibly educated and goes above and beyond to source the information you both need to treat your specific problem. Once I felt good enough, I began working out with Carina and had a great deal of comfort knowing she too had suffered a broken neck and would know what I was going through. She explained the plan she had for me, working my legs and core first, and them moving to the arms as much as my body would allow. Anytime I tell her a move is uncomfortable, she modifies and works around it. Having a trainer work around your injury and still get you the results you want is a true blessing. I have lost 13 pounds in 6 weeks with Carina's compassionate and educated instruction. Her attention to detail and changing up my routine for maximum results has been amazing! I also decided to use the in house nutritionist Julia to help guide my food choices. She too has been very informative and supportive and opened my eyes a great deal as to how I am eating and the importance of a good sleep as it pertains to weight loss. It has been amazing to have a support team like the one I have found at Pro Fitness Network after the hell I have been through. I know that I could not possibly be in a better place! Just an update to show that this isn't an old 2008 review but still accurate as to the trainers/masseuses who work there and the owner. See updated 2008 review below. I'm 51 years old and never felt at home in a gym. Three painful years after an injury, I knew I needed to lose weight and strengthen my lower-back. But exercise was too scary. My muscles got weaker and weaker. Finally, I tried one trainer, then another. My back went out with both. Desperate, I went to Carina to see if she could help. After she told me about her injury and saw how strong she is, I trusted her to know what was safe, and what wasn't. I've strength-trained with Carina three times a week, for two years, without re-injuring my back. It got me in much better shape, stronger and more energetic than I'd been in years. For the first time in my life, when I don't go to the gym, I miss the exercise and the atmosphere---it's amazing. It's like getting together with friends. I use the Bodybugg to be more aware of my eating habits, I get massages from Nora, who is really excellent (my husband now uses her) , and I have done Pilates with Maria, who is the absolute best! read more

I've been going to Pro Fitness Network for over a year now and have been very happy with it. What I like is that they offer hour long semi-personal training sessions at $30 hour. My trainer is the owner, Carina Weston, who is great. She develops a program tailored to your ability and goals and you get the personal attention of a trainer for a great price. The semi-personal training sessions you share with usually about 2-3 other people. Pro Fitness Network also offers one-on-one training, Pilates, massage therapy and nutrition counseling. The other people you work out with are great too. It is very low key and chill. I would highly recommend Pro Fitness Network. I have always been the kind of person intimidated by gyms but this was a great option for me to get more fit in a relaxed environment. read more

I am one of those people who use Yelp for everything but rarely write a review. However, I feel compelled to write a review about Jackie the sports massage therapist. Jackie is AMAZING!! She is a great listener and she can communicate to your body through her work. I recently injured my right shoulder and have been in a lot of pain. Having studied Kinesiology, Jackie knows how to work around the muscles around my shoulder to give me pain relief. I have had hundreds of massages my whole life, no one compares to Jackie. I haven't used the gym specifically, but I get massages from Gabby and they are AWESOME. The massage space is a small nook that is separate from the gym area, and the candles, aromatherapy and white noise create a very calming and soothing space. I prefer massages that require a firm touch, and Gabby has a very good sense of when to apply firmer pressure and when to take it easy. The price is pretty competitive, and the quality is much better than many of the standard massage places in the San Gabriel Valley. Another nice thing is that you don't have to be a member of the gym to use the massage services, and weekend appointments are totally okay. read more

I recently started training with Carina, and as someone who's never been into going to the gym that much, this has been a much better experience than all the ones I had before. It's a small gym and by appointment only, but I actually enjoy the atmosphere. The facility is clean, the staff are friendly, and people are there to exercise. Carina is friendly and encouraging, but she also makes sure I work as hard as I can. I wasn't sure how this would work for me given my age and health conditions, but in a short while, I already feel more energetic and my moods have improved! read more
