Pro Photo is my bae - there, I said it. From day one entering PPC, John was so welcoming and friendly. He honestly feels a bit like my college photo professor. I can say with complete honesty that John has gone above and beyond for me as a customer, even down to reviewing a few of my photos when I was deciding which to print to sell for a last minute pop up shop nearby. One time after developing many rolls, I noticed an issue with about 3 or 4 frames on a single roll. Upon contacting the lab, they immediately reached out about doing a rewash and scan free of charge which completely fixed the issue. The developing/scanning team members are excellent at their jobs and have wonderful attention to detail. Becoming a regular at one lab is truly the best investment I could recommend for a newer film photographer like myself. I have not been a Pro Photo customer for very long, only because I haven't lived in Orange County for very long. I had always heard from fellow photogs that this was the place to go, naturally I took their suggestions and went to check this place out. My first impression was: so-so It definitely doesn't feel like some big fancy store because it's essentially a warehouse, BUT, it had something special. I kept coming back in and slowly got to know some of the people there (John and Richard in particular) and I have to say that once you kind of get to know some of them the service does go up several notches. While I can't say this is the best practice, it does in the long-run mean I will have consistent service when I go there. Gunther at the rental counter is probably the nicest person there, he really is great to deal with. The young lady at the film counter seems to always be bummed out or in a bad mood, but she's never been "mean" or anything like that to me. Their prices are pretty fair overall, I can't really complain about them, but some things could be lower. I haven't had film processed with them yet, but I'm intending to give them a shot in the very near future. As I mentioned earlier, I don't necessarily agree with reserving good customer service just for regular visitors, HOWEVER, I do understand why it happens. They have to deal with a lot of really, REALLY rude and demanding students (not all of them, but several) and they kind of have to battle harden themselves so they don't go insane. I've been there on several occasions and have seen what they put up with. Some of the schools even send students there to learn about their cameras! That shouldn't be happening. Period. So all in all, if you give it time, Pro-Photo really is a great place to go, I will continue to visit them as a customer and a friend as long as I'm here in the OC. read more

The guy that helped me was super rude and condescending. He also went out of his way to avoid helping me and help everyone else. I won't be coming back. At least I got my photos emailed, but they redacted or didn't include some pictures on my film which I was dismayed to see. Last time I checked 1st amendment protects art under freedom of expression so to have them just feel like they can ruin 3 photos and not include 5 was horrifying. read more

I've been a customer of Pro Photo for 15+ years when film was the only method of photography. Great variety of products and friendly staff. Just rented a 70-200mm 2.8 IS II for the first time and the weekend rental rate is phenomenal. If you rent for Saturday, they give you until Monday at 10am to return since they are closed on Sunday. Also, you can pick it up Friday after noon - all for a 1 day rental price! For this lens I had it Friday from 12 until Monday at 10am all for $35.00. Doesn't get much better than that. read more

I've been coming here for a while to develop my film but have had some issues in the past where it took longer than expected. I also received 2 rolls that weren't mine and returned them to the office and I'm missing 2 rolls of my own film but I've received no further communication about what could've happened to them. read more

I brought in several old studio photos of my kids about a month ago to be digitized, because the studio no longer had the digital files. I picked the place based on the reviews. The resulting copies were really bad. The contact person, I believe named John, raved up and down about how good the technician was and how good the prints were. Not having experience with this I took him at his word. On a hunch, I had another studio digitize them and the results were fantastic. I asked for a refund and never heard back from them. Really disappointing experience for about $300. I have absolutely no idea why the place has good reviews - that was not my experience. Word to the wise. read more

They were super helpful!!! When soon as I walked in, someone was there to ask if I needed any help. I told him I was looking around, but a few more steps in and another person asked again. The second person who helped me was able to answer all my questions and gave me a full explanation of the difference with HP5 film and Kodak Tri-X. He also helped me get materials I needed that they carry. Be warned that they do not carry Arista stuff. I'll probably go back to get more film and this time I'll remember to bring my ID because they give student discounts! read more

i know multiple people who have received wrong files and i myself have received wrong files before but when i got an email at midnight saying they ruined a roll of film i had dropped off that was the last straw. pro photo was always somewhat disorganized but lately it's to the point where the people at the front just look completely lost. you shouldn't charge a premium when you aren't giving premium services. they did offer me a roll of film for their mistake, i didn't take it nor will i ever be coming back again. i hate to even leave a negative review but it is deserved. read more

But I'm putting 3 stars instead of 5 because I've been having trouble with their we transfer it's happened twice where they say a specific deadline ex. Aug 2nd at 4pm and a we transfer email isn't in my inbox yet. Now a deadline is a deadline and being busy isn't a excuse. I have to meet with deadlines as well and if I don't have my files I'll be late with my deadlines as well for my clients. read more

First of all, everyone at this place is a homie. I've never had a bad experience with anyone here and have been coming here for years since Costco quit processing film. I usually get my film processed here and John is the BEST. He always makes me laugh and always helps me out when I'm in a bind and need something processed immediately. They are very accommodating and even organized each folder with the dates that I had labeled on my photograph piles (originally for my reference only) I was very pleasantly surprised when I opened my usb drive and saw everything organized year ! The Pro Photo Connection prints are excellent quality and delivery time was really fast. The team was very professional and quality was way better than any of the mainstream print shops (ie: CVS, Walgreens, etc.), as well as they were more fairly priced. Unfortunately, the front desk John Reed does not really take his customers seriously, even worse, with no respect. I came to this place hoping with their professional work I could have my recently deceased father's photo printed and framed. When I expressed my dissatisfaction to him, given the photo he printed out is not the best quality, he simply said: I am sorry, this is what you got and I need to charge you regardless if you am happy with the product or not. So I paid and left. Coming home only found out that all the photos(15 of them, which I plan to put together into an album) he gave to me with the white edges not being trimmed. So did he expect all his customers to have the paper cutter at home? I don't think any photo center gives their customer s untrimmed photo prints nowadays. Let me know if you find one. read more

I typically like these guys but today there was a mistake made on the camera we rented (on our end) and we couldn't shoot the video using their stuff. We had it back to the shop as soon as we could and asked for some type of a credit towards our next rental because we use them for every shoot we do. We got the song and dance of if you would've done this or that then we would give you some credit but since our "policy" is this...we're not going to help you. So, I lost over $150 bucks because they had no sense of customer satisfaction. I get "policy" issues because I work w/ one of the largest Media companies in the nation. But when a client comes to me and shows their need for recompense regarding an issue I may quote them "policy" but because it's more about servicing them then saving a few bucks here or there we accomdate their request. In fact we had to do it just the other day. Client said he thought he was starting on air a week later than the contract he signed stated and asked for a credit. We didn't want to do it...but we did just to show them some love and keep them happy. That's the nature of doing Biz today. Not so for the rental department @ ProPhoto. They cut me off when I was explaining to them what we do at our company to help our customers and said "that's our policy." So much for customer satisfaction... However, I must admit I will feel a little satisfied when I go spend money at thier competitors for our next shoot. Sorry Prophoto...that's my policy. read more

The first time that I had gone into here was at their old location 200 feet down the street in the same business district. I had gone into here to get some black and white film developed because it was the closest one that does it. The photos turned out fine, but I just had an annoyingly bad experience with one of the employees. So on the day I picked up the prints, the girl who was working there asked me if I was a student and there was this guy standing right behind her. So I told her that I am a student and that fucking guy said "allegedly" like I couldn't hear him. How dare he! What an ass. It may not seem like a big deal to you, but it is to me. I had a simple assignment for my college photo class: shoot large format. Came all the way here from Covina to get my 4x5 slide film developed because the impression I got from their website was that they developed in-house. Unfortunately, they send their stuff out to Swan Photo Labs anyway, a service I could have gotten from more local photo shops. The problem with this is they make NO MENTION on their website that they send their slide film out. People would come here from all over because they believed Pro Photo developed in-house, which is NOT THE CASE. When I did get to this place, I was horribly turned off by the service. The young-ish woman who ran the film development counter was very rude. BELIEVE the other bad reviews about this place and HER specifically - she apparently has no idea what good customer service should look like. I had never gotten slide film developed before, so I didn't know the procedure. I couldn't let her keep the slide holders because they were on loan from the school, but I didn't have a box on me. I admit my naivete about this was a bit inexcusable, but their attitude was tenfold more absurd. When I asked her for a spare box, she looked at me as if I had just asked her to hand deliver the film to my house when it was done. I am ever so sorry I inconvenienced her with my business. She made me feel like a complete outsider; I felt more unwelcome in that place than I have in a long time. Fortunately, a more helpful associate was able to find a box for me. Unfortunately, I NEVER GOT MY FILM BACK. I was too perturbed by my initial contact with this place to ever call about it, and I'm very happy I never had to chance to give them my money. The next time I have to get things done, I'd rather go with Samy's or even a Target than come back here. read more

The very first time I walked into Pro Photo was about 5 years ago when they were in a different building & their store was so huge, I felt like a lost puppy in a big city. I was taking a black & white film photography class at the time, so I needed some equipment. 90% of my equipment was purchased here as it was recommended by my professor, whom the staff knew very well. The only equipment I didn't buy was the camera & the lens, which my dad dug out of his closet to give me. You can always depend on your Asian parents (or relatives) for an old SLR camera for your photography class. Back then, the staff was nice, friendly, & helpful. Today, they are still nice, friendly, & helpful. John over at prints is funny, memorable, & friendly. He liked that I filled out the process form completely because apparently some people don't. The pricing for the film isn't displayed on a huge banner, but there is a handout somewhere to the right of the desk. For reference, they do list the prices on their website: http://stores.prophotoirvine.com/c-41-film/ Double check these prices & the prices they charge you because people are prone to make mistakes. I picked up my photos the next day after 4 PM & was satisfied by the quality of the prints, but obviously not by my own photography. Haven't used my film camera in 5 years so I made a noob mistake with the exposures so my prints look like they were taken on a potato camera. Regardless, even though my love for film is expensive ($7.50 per roll!), it's probably best to just get the negatives developed ($3.50) & try to print them yourself...or just have PPC handle it for you. They do a great job. No complaints here. I also turned in my DSLR for them to clean. It was about $30, which is $10 more than the last photography store I went to get my last DSLR's censor cleaned. The man who cleaned it was also really nice, friendly, & joked around with me. I did not feel as though the staff was being condescending & I did not feel as though I was being discriminated against because I'm a young female. When I asked the man in the rentals department about Tamrons vs. Sigma glass, he was very helpful & forthcoming about his preference, what they carry, & why they don't rent Tamrons. PPC is a great place to go for your camera needs. Don't be put off by their old photography magazines & the cramped space, they do a great job. read more

This place is staffed by insecurely-artificially-arrogant disgruntled photography rejects. Students beware-- I finally stopped using this store after witnessing the umpteenth photo student get talked down to and ripped off by a slimy salesman taking advantage of the student's naivety. If you are a student who is willing to risk having a shady douche try to convince you that you need a $100 B+W filter to protect your $50 AE-1 lens, check out PPC. Otherwise, shop elsewhere, like OC Camera in Mission Viejo. Or just ask your teacher what you need and buy it online from B&H Photo. Everyone else beware-- Their rip-off attempts are not limited to students. They don't hesitate to try to sell demo and floor equipment as "brand new, still in the box" to pros. If you get film processed here, don't be surprised if it comes back with scratches. If you need lab services, go to Custom Images a few blocks away. If you need photo gear, go to Samy's or Calumet and find out what you need, then order it online from B&H. Better yet, go to OC Camera in Mission Viejo for one of the very few camera stores that provides good customer service. If you need rental gear, get it at Samy's or Calumet. read more

This review is strictly for Brandon. He is so rude, and doesn't take anyone's business into consideration. He is the freakin devil! I called today to make a late payment on my bf and I's rental, and he doesn't even greet you when answering the phone. I was on a tight time constraint at the time and asked if it would be possible to call them by the end of today to make the payment, and his response was "No, I need the money now." I mean seriously. My boyfriend and I have been coming to Pro Photo for at least 2 years, but have never gotten customer service like this before, and we are both extremely upset with how we were treated today. He was talking to me as if he was my dad or something. Customer service is about making your customers happy and working with their requests, especially if they are within reason. I hope we never have to deal with him again. read more

I wanted to like this place, and when I first went in I was impressed. The person who greeted me was very helpful, explained tripods v. light stands, really took his time and helped me to understand all the intricacies. I didn't know the exact thread size I needed, so I ran home, checked, and returned about thirty minutes later to buy two stands and to swivel mounts or whatever they're called. My how things changed in that short time. When I returned, the person who originally helped me was gone, and the person who was there was busy helping others send him a photo from their iPhone. He never said "Welcome" or "I'll be with you in a minute" or anything; it almost seemed like he was actively ignoring me. I moseyed around for quite a while, looking at the admittedly wide selection of stuff they had, but he never acknowledged I was there. I put the stands on the counter thinking that might signal I was ready to buy, but still nothing. Eventually, another customer came in. After a long while, the employee (who I think, but am not sure, is the manager or owner) went into another room and said something along of the lines of "Would you help this guy?" I thought I would finally get some service, but he meant the person who came in after me! It was then I realized I was being deliberately ignored. To be fair, he was being very helpful and genial with everyone else, so maybe it was just something he didn't like about me personally. So eventually I said "Screw it," took down the info for the stands and the mounts and ordered them on Amazon. I'm giving two stars because the first guy who helped really was friendly and very helpful, my first impression was very positive, and it's good to see a real, legitimate camera store still exists; I'd give an extra half a star if I could. But the way I was treated (or not, actually) when I returned...holy cow, what a change. read more

After moving to the OC I was looking for a place to rent equipment and purchase film. I tried a few other places like Samy's and Fullerton Camera, which is closer to me, but the lack of availability and price made me keep looking. I'm so glad I did because I found Pro Photo Connection. I've called a few times to check out things like pricing on rentals, or film. Then I explored their film processing and was surprised at how inexpensive it was. Not only was it cheaper, but they do it in house and can email scans! And the quality was great. And John was a delight behind the counter when I dropped off my film. I'll definitely be back. read more

I've give Pro Photo two stars because of how rude the sales clerks are despite the fct they have a good selection. I rented equipment from them only once, and I'm not sure if I will again. I felt like I was talked down to, like they thought I did not know what I was doing or what I was renting, and there was a skirmish at the rental counter, which I thought HIGHLY unprofessional and unnecessary. The prices to rent were reasonable, however this fact alone isn't enough to make me want to rent there again, much less buy anything there. My boyfriend dropped off the equipment I rented and while looking at filters the sales clerk asked " Do you even know what you're looking at?" Yeah....seriously. So rude and egotistical. It's as if they think they're the only ones who know anything about photography because they work there. Please... So I don't recommend going there, at all. read more

Came into Pro Photo today with the recommendation of my Photo 54: Beginning Photography instructor. It's an introduction class to black and white 35mm film so the instructor thought this is a good place to get us started on buying materials. After checking Pro Photo on Yelp, I didn't know what to expect... Pro Photo is awesome! It's seriously a one-stop shop for all your photo needs, even film materials. We all know that film materials are not easy to find, especially black and white film. This place can be a little hard to navigate since there's no sign that labels everything. But after walking around the store a good 2x I found a shelf with everything a beginner needs! For the film, it's behind the counter so ask someone to help get it. The guys here are funny. There's this older gentleman that helped me the whole time with lots of great insight. He even gave me a student discount to save me a couple of bucks. I haven't used any of the services here but I'll definitely make this my first stop. read more

I prefer this place then the other photo spots in OC. Contrary to some of the reviews I've had good experiences with the staff at Pro Photo. I'm not too technical so when I've been stumped by technicalities they have assisted me. I have a Nikon 50 and I wanted to upgrade but they said I was fine with that camera and to upgrade when I'm a little more experienced. I've gone back ever since for parts, developement, and rentals. I just busted a bulb on a studio strobe and was dreading the return because I thought I was going to get total attitude but to my suprise they were cordial about what happened. I had to pay for the bulb but I wasn't treated like an idiot which is cool.....cuz I felt like one before returning the strobe. Also, contrary to the other statements about the chic who works the print and development, she has always been real cool to me. read more

I've used Pro Photo for a few years for film processing since they're local, and I prefer to drop off and pick up my film physically. They've always been just OK for this purpose, and the customer experience has always been mildly negative. However, the convenience of having access to a local lab has outweighed these issues. Until most recently, I was getting some film processed for one of my clients, and they lost the roll. They returned the correct number of rolls, but one wasn't mine; it belonged to someone else. I urged them to try to fix the issue for months, but every time I called, one month later, two months later, three months later, and four months later, I keep getting the same useless response: "We're working on it." My client is upset, I'm upset, and all they could do was ignore me and string me along whenever I reached out. I never received my roll, never received a refund, and never even received any acknowledgment that they made a mistake. The convenience is no longer worth the steep price for just mediocre film processing, atrocious customer service, and negligence in the lab. If you're looking for other options, I've been using Memphis Film Lab for a few months now and they're doing a better job all around. read more
