As a casual amateur fisher-dad that doesn't want to disappoint the kids (and wife lol) every time we go fishing, I would like to sincerely thank this shop and the staff that assisted our visit here last Sunday. Not only did we feel welcomed, we were taken care of with genuine kindness and helpful information. I wish I remembered the employee's name, he was the only one there on a Sunday morning, but he was excellent. He helped answer all the questions we had about our fishing trip to Castaic Lake for the first time. He showed us all the recommended baits/lures/tackles, educated us on different casting setups, and took the time to show us how to efficiently and effectively tie everything together. With his recommended products and setup (that he helped put together) on my daughter's toy fishing pole, she caught her first fish (bass!) within 10minutes of being on the boat. At the end of the half-day fishing trip she caught 2 and the wife caught 1 all with the products that he recommended. Not too bad for first timers there on a "slow" day! Thank you Tackle Express! Have swung by a couple times, once to ask where the fish were biting, and once to rent a boat, get a friend a fishing license, and ask where the fish were biting. As a tackle shop it's pretty average, with some basic tackle and lures, with a refrigerated section that had nightcrawlers and lugworms (at least they were advertising it from outside, guess it makes good striper bait?) I don't recall if there were poles but I remember seeing some hooks and maybe some plastics. However they do sell fishing licenses which is nice, and the man working there had a ton of information regarding what baits and rigs to use, where to go, and how to go about finding and catching the fish, which is likely the most important aspect of a bait/tackle shop. As a snack shop it's not great. Some chips maybe and a fridge with canned cokes at like $1.15 or something. Nothing spectacular but adequate. As a boat rental facility it's quite nice. They have these 14 foot aluminum motor boats with a $75 deposit, $35/first hour with $10/each subsequent out and $65/full day which is a very fair price. The boats are simple but clean, can accommodate up to four adults, and have pretty decent power. One should always stop at all the local shop to get the lay of the land, but this shop really gave good advice and I caught four decent bass, 3 in a very specific recommended spot and rigged as suggested, so I was quite happy and satisfied with the service and advice received.

Prior to my training session, I sent Naomi a list of ammo and other items that I wanted to purchase for the session. When I arrived, Naomi already had my entire order perfectly organized in a box and ready to go. I was super lucky to have Dave as my instructor. The class session was very informative and focused on topics that actually mattered. The range session was really where Dave really separated himself from the pack. Training sessions that I have previously done with other instructors were very basic and focused on standing still and aiming at a paper target. Dave takes a much more tactical approach. By the end of my training, I felt very comfortable drawing from a holster and shooting while moving, even with distractions. This training was worth every penny. I can't wait to do more training sessions!

Christian was the gentleman that helped me out along side a trainee. I understand when training someone, things may take a while. And it did. Very knowledgeable in his line of work which is greatly needed especially dealing with legal transactions as these. Answered all my questions with understandable explanation with no hesitation. What I was most impressed about is how he was guiding his trainee. Never once belittled them when they would make a mistake or didn't understand a certain line on the paperwork. Instead would guide them on how to fix or correct it in a friendly and professional manner. Because I've seen managers do that before and it gets so awkward. He's knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and genuinely helpful. He represents what a specialty retailer should be. I've spent 1000's on firearms and ammunition over the years. Unfortunately, this visit was the opposite. I came in looking for M&P Shield 9mm magazines. Only one in stock -- not a problem. I figured I'd grab some ammo while I was there. As I stood in front of the ammo section trying to read the boxes, two employees directly in front of me made zero effort to acknowledge me. Not a "Can I help you?" Not even eye contact. Instead, they were occupied repeatedly racking the slide on a pistol and discussing how it was "blemished." The way it was being handled made it feel less like product inspection and more like someone building a case for why it should be discounted. I can't say for certain that the larger employee was intentionally trying to create or exaggerate wear to justify purchasing it himself -- but if that wasn't the case, the optics were spectacularly poor. What really stood out was the conversation. They were openly speaking negatively about other customers -- people who sounded like regulars -- directly in front of me. It takes a certain level of tone-deaf confidence to mock customers while another one is standing three feet away. I finally asked if they might have additional magazines in the back. The larger employee ignored me initially. When he did respond, it was with, "Are you talking to me? I'm doing paperwork," as though customer interaction was an unreasonable interruption. This was moments after he demonstrated that he was fully capable of multitasking slide manipulation and social commentary. I briefly considered asking for a manager, but decided it wasn't worth engaging further. If basic awareness and professionalism are optional on the floor, that's a leadership issue, not just an employee one. I left disappointed -- not because inventory was limited, but because the standard of service was. Specialty stores survive on expertise and professionalism. When that slips, you're just a warehouse with attitude. I hope management takes this seriously. There are strong employees at this location. Unfortunately, consistency appears to be selective.
