4 stars for Planet Fitness Des Plaines. If I did this review a few weeks ago they would have…read morereceived 3, but they really stepped up their game as far as cleaning goes. It's a very basic gym, it has the basic, minimum amenities that a fitness center should have, weights, stretching areas, weight machines and cardio machines like bikes elliptical etc. Don't expect a pool or sauna if you're considering signing up for a membership here, The workers are friendly and do a good job of keeping the place clean and paper towels stocked, as well as keeping the locker rooms clean. I have to say for the most part, the guests do their part as well keeping it clean. I only subtract a star because I wish they had more machines - there's only one of certain ones and you'll have to wait a while if someone is taking their time using it. Can't beat the price of $10 a month though!

When we walked in I was assuming day passes were only $5, that would make sense for people trying out the gym. But the chubby Mexican worker at the front desk rudely stated it was $20 which is even more than the monthly membership, and then he clearly made a point that I couldn't step on the gym grounds without the guest pass. I reluctantly paid the $20 so I could help my friend, but man that was an absolute ripoff. Me and my friend used the machines and they were just okay, the grips were too fat where they were uncomfortable. The machines were also not 100% my type, but overall they were solid and can def be good for beginners. When me and my friend were using the chest press, a minimum wage worker that prob makes $15 an hour to spray the machines came up to us and said that we couldn't have our bag on the floor and we had to put the bag in a locker, which I thought was ridiculous. It seemed like the chubby Mexican guy made him go over to us like the message was coming from him. First the $20 guest pass ripoff and now you're going to complain about our bags being on the floor?!?! And now the rude staff is watching us?? Come on bro, sounds like a true "judgement free zone" lol. No critics?!?! More like no critics for the rude staff and ripoff prices. I see why beginners come here and it's not the worst option, but if you have personal honor and a good work ethic there's better gyms to go to!

Great little gym…read more Everyone has different workout routines and styles, so what you look for in a gym will be different from person to person. Here's the highlights to help you choose. It's a chain, but not a big one like XSport or Lifetime. So, if you want a big chain gym where you can travel and go to any gym this may not be for you. I know they have several locations but mostly in the Chicago Northwest suburbs. It's not very big, but they have a really good selection of machines and equipment. They don't have big locker rooms, hot tubs, pools, or exercise rooms for classes. I don't need any of that, so I'm glad they don't have it. The focus here is on working out. Even though the big gyms are probably double or triple the size of Fitness 19, they always seem so packed and you have to wait for the machine you want. Fitness 19 is good because you don't bump into people or have to wait a long time to get on the machine you want. With that said, I'll say this isn't a muscle head gym either. I used to work out at XSport, and there were always muscle heads that obviously took something to enhance their muscle growth. Good atmosphere. Everyone seems to be in a decent mood. Perhaps since it's a small gym there are a lot of people living around the area that go here. A lot of people seem to know each other and have a good time. Lastly, it's pretty reasonable for price. I believe I got started with a deal that was either $11 or $12 per month, but I paid for my year in full / advance, and got a further discount. You really can't beat the price and quality of this gym.

A significant number of machines have been consistently broken for weeks or months, including an entire line of treadmills to the left of the front desk that I don't think I've ever seen working. Patrons rarely rerack their weights, and staff never does anything to help with that. There's also the issue that this gym is VERY popular with high school boys. They travel in packs, tend to be very loud and disruptive, and will hog machines, with 5 or 6 of them alternating sets on the same machine so that it can take up to 30 minutes just for one group to finish on a machine. I know there's nothing management/owners can do about that, but it's still something to take into account when choosing a gym. The only nice thing to say about this place is that the main gym floor is usually pretty clean. The women's bathroom is hit-or-miss on cleanliness, depending on the day. And if you're looking for a cheap chain gym, there's a Planet Fitness less than a mile away on Euclid Ave, where the quality probably won't be much different but at least PF is dirt-cheap, even compared to Crunch.

Over the pandemic, I had noticed random hives. I say, random, because I wasn't sure of the trigger. After a clear bill of health from my primary care physician and a bandaid fix of steroid creams from the dermatologist, I was determined to find the root cause and fix it. This is where Daniel and TBD came into the picture. With blood, stool, and urine tests that were easy to do at home (I'm in LA by the way), it was determined I had leaky gut, possible SIBO, and a body full of mycotoxins. I immediately jumped into the protocol Daniel prescribed which consisted of eliminating foods my body is extremely sensitive to and foods that have a potential for high mold/mycotoxin content. I'm halfway through my 3rd month of elimination and 2 months in to the supplement protocol to heal my gut and eliminate mycotoxins. I'm slowly healing and have experienced my eczema flare ups reduce and have noticed a decrease in the 'random hives'. I also hadn't realized I was pretty much bloated all the time prior to making these changes and just didn't know until I started this protocol. You start to just accept the uncomfortable until you know you can actually FEEL better. I'm looking forward to continuing the elimination diet and the supplement protocol.
