Barley burger ? Or a Thai Jalapeno burger of some delicious sort (the mephis?)
    Francisca M.

Soooooo my partner and I were tired one evening, a Thursday I think, we didn't feel like cooking and we're like hell lets go to a bar, have a drink and eat bar food! Boyyy did we finally find our spot!! Reminds me of those awesome family-owned neighborhood bars back in Champaign-Urbana (yes, Illinos but we're Angelenos)...the kind you don't really plan for, but end up talking about later. We've been here twice now and honestly? We love it! First time, there was live music, open mic night. Just people showing up, putting their heart out there. No pretentious vibe, just good energy. Second time, there was line dancing. And if you bought one of the drinks you got a raffle ticket for free classes. Completely different night, same welcoming feel. How cool is that?!! The thing about this place is that it shifts, but sort of still feels like home. The first night it was raining, and they let us bring in our 3-month-old poodle, Kopi, without hesitation. Not only that! they offered him a blanket!!! A blanket!!! For our dog!!! Yeah...that told me everything. They kept checking in on us, making sure we were taken care of, recommending drinks like we were regulars. And there were clearly many regulars there. Drinks were solid...good cider, good beer, good mixed drinks. And the food? Omg! The food!!! Honestly fucking underrated (can I curse?). Way better than you'd expect from a bar, though to be fair some of the best food I've had has been from a bar's kitchen.. You know.... the kind of food where you take a bite...and your eyebrow rises just a tad...you pause and are like....okay wait, this is really freaking good! Nothing about this place is trying too hard and that's exactly why it works. It's just people, music, drinks, awesome food....and a space that feels lived in. We'll definitely be back.

Fun place! Ricardo was an excellent bartender and helped me find some delicious beers. Loved the Cerveza Ambar, Burpee and Poachers Draft! We had fun line dancing - great, unassuming, friendly crowd and instructors. Even met Dan the guitarist there who was nice! Highly recommend!

It's a casual place to grab and beer and hang out. They had line dancing the night we went and it was very busy. Not really enough room to order and line dance, but they make it work as best they can. The burger was just okay, not something to order again. Their fries weren't the best either, the fish from the fish and chips was the best thing we tried. Their beer was okay, I'm not really a beer person, but my husband is. He wasn't super impressed with his. I'm there to hang out and order the least hoppy beer possible. I tried the blackberry plum sour and it definitely makes you pucker. Wouldn't get it again.

Love the food and beer here! The green beer for St. Patrick's Day was a fun and festive touch. Always a great spot to grab a drink and enjoy the atmosphere.

Hannah welcomed us warmly and graciously described some of their many beer options. Have to say that their cask pull brown ale was as good as any served in any English pub. Really nice seating area. Didn't try any food because it was early afternoon. We will definitely be back to check out some of their dishes. Cheers!

We were visiting town and looking for a dog friendly brewery to check out. We had been to the Project Barley at Redondo Pier and enjoyed their beers. I knew the pier wasn't dog friendly so we decided to visit this location. There was plenty of dog friendly places to sit. There was plenty of inside seating as well. We had the wings and the chicken salad. The wings were so tasty, crispy, and sauced perfectly. We had a key lime sour and a ddh dipa. Overall a solid spot if you're in the area looking for good wings.

A nice casual local space. Super cozy with the options to sit at the bar, at high bar tables, sit down table seating or outdoors in the narrow patio area. There's a large TV screen, some board games and darts to keep you occupied. I've been here twice now both on the late afternoons to enjoy a beer with friends. It's not a modern space but comfortable. The bartender let me sample some of her recommendations based on what I like. I really enjoyed the Neverland. Very tasty and smooth. I was bummed to find out the pinball machine is no longer there. I'll have to check this place out on an evening one of these days. Bartender is super helpful and friendly. Will definitely be back.

Came here for a bike ride lunch with my bride! Homeboy hoagie was a great sandwich. The hamburger and fries are amazing. The beer is always good. Great service as always. Quaint outdoor seating on this sunny day.

Good vibes here! I was a guest of the band that played on a Saturday evening in December. Although I got a ride here, there were plenty of free parking spots in the back. This Project Barley Square is a small pub located in Old Torrance. There are other locations in the South Bay. I'm not a beer drinker so I can only say that the folks around me seemed to enjoy the beverages and live classic rock music. I did get ginger ale from the bartender and she was super nice. Later in the evening, I did order a side of french fries and they were okay. They have an outdoor patio area which is great for groups. Restroom was clean. They had a Christmas tree with a Guinness hat on top. They also have their "People Love Us on yelp sticker" up. Hope to be back for more classic rock!

Such an amazing place to hang out if you like having great beer in chill, cozy vibes. The beer menu has a good variety, so there's always something for every mood! Food menu is also pretty good and not too pricey. I've had the Fish & Chips, 2 Russel Sprouts, Giant Pub Pretzel and they were all great. It's a spacious place with plenty of seating both inside and outside, so it never feels too crowded. I love the fireplace inside and the fire pit outside, it really adds to the cozy atmosphere. Whether you go in solo or with a group of friends, they are always very welcoming and attentive. Also dog-friendly and have a water bowl at the patio, so I see people bringing their dogs all the time.

Menu - ignore all the other menus and food pictures. This used to be an English pub. The pub was purchased last year. Rebranded as a burger joint 2 Stars for food and drink: - DRINK: IPA was meh. Ironically, English Ale (what they are phasing out) was what save them in my eyes - FOOD: No more - no Indian food, fish and chip. Now, just burgers and sandwiches I was disappointed :( Talk about bait and switch in the Yelp photos Burger wasn't good. Too sweet. Menu touts they are inspired by MCD and In N Out. So not a high bar, still misses the quality of intended copies Chili fries were good and fast +1 star for having a fireplace on a cold FRI night. And a dartboard and pinball machine for entertainment

This place changed owners sometime recently. This used to be the Yorkshire Square Brewing Company. Although the beers remained thankfully for the most part the same, the menu has changed. We used to love their Fish and Chips under the old name and management. So here are two comparative photos of the Fish and Chips. The first photo from what is now known as Project Barley Brewery, and the second photo of Fish and Chips is from what used to be known as the Yorkshire Square Brewing Co. Same location in Torrance, but different owners. The new pub chef in the first photo has smaller portions of fish. The outside is not crispy with the inside being slightly dry due to being overcooked. The second photo is from a past visit when it was still Yorkshire Square Brewing Company, before it became Project Barley Square. The original pub chef served a larger portion of fish. The outside was light and crispy, while the inside was moist and juicy. I wish that the original chef was still there. The ambiance lost some of its uniqueness as there were cutouts of the royal family and pictures of towns in England. I am sad to see that is now gone. I will still come back for the beer. Although I will try the other offerings on the food menu, unfortunately I will need to find another place for authentic Fish and Chips.

    fish and chips! crispy goodness!

tasty food, fantastic drinks, and excellent service at project barley square! They also have live music! check out their website for the line-up

It feels like the staff is more concerned with getting out exactly at closing time than making guests feel welcomed and valued. Our last visit on 06/25/2026 was, by far, the worst experience we've ever had here. We were celebrating my stepdaughter's birthday with a large group. As closing time approached, one of our family members still had a nearly full beer. Without any warning or politely letting us know it was time to finish up, a tall white male employee (who refused to provide his name when asked) simply walked up and took the beer off the table. What made it even more frustrating was that there were other tables around us with guests who also had drinks, yet our party was the only one singled out. To make matters worse, we had brought a birthday cake to celebrate. We politely asked another short female employee for a few plastic plates and utensils so we could cut the cake before leaving. We were told no because they were closing. This has never been an issue during our previous birthday celebrations here. These were disposable plastic plates and utensils that would have gone straight into the trash, so refusing such a simple request came across as pure unwillingness to provide basic customer service. I spent 10 years working in the food and hospitality industry before starting my current career, so I understand exactly what closing a restaurant or brewery entails. I know employees want to leave on time, but I also know that providing good customer service until the last guest leaves is part of the job. If customers need to wrap things up, there is a respectful way to communicate that. You don't take someone's drink without warning, and you don't refuse a simple request that would have taken less than a minute. Everyone in our party left upset and disappointed. It was honestly embarrassing to watch employees treat loyal customers this way. This brewery used to be our go-to place for birthdays, but after this experience, we will not be returning. I rarely write negative reviews because I understand everyone has bad days. However, this experience was unacceptable. I sincerely hope management addresses the lack of hospitality and provides better customer service training, because the employees working that evening did not represent the level of service that keeps loyal customers coming back. Both the female worker with tattoos and piercings and the tall male were extremely rude when confronted. If you choose to visit, just be aware that if you're there close to closing time, your experience may depend more on how quickly the staff wants to leave than on making you feel like a valued guest.

Of course, I kid, beer can be a wonderful thing, I just rather do cocktails and shots. So I went to Sugar Monkey Brewing because of a different pull: a power point slide show where friends pitch their single friends to strangers for a chance at love or romp. So I went in not knowing much of Sugar Monkey Brewing and I left with clear understanding that this place is an industrial beer oasis near the beach. The contrast of sand and blue on the horizon and the present aluminum lining made me feel like I was seeing a new uncommon mixture that proved that clashing environments can gel to delight. I found parking easily. It was a Saturday early evening, and about a 5 minute walk was where I discovered my spot. I honestly hated that I had to walk those 5 minutes but the walk uplifted my spirits for the weather was California crisp and the air and sky and atmosphere felt safe and proper. I wondered if i had the right place? The streets looked like too industrial. Like I had gone to one of those places that had a lot of factories in rows, but not much else. But I turned a corner and there was Sugar Monkey. Then I realized that a brewery would probably look like a beer factory so this place, with all its steel and pumps, had found its home amongst beach skies. As I walked back to my car, later that evening, I was in slight awe at the pale light blue and orange sky. It was serene, and vast and somehow beach appropriate. The water tower iin a picture I took was a nice touch as it reminded me of the Animaniacs, especially Wakko and Dot. I arrived after the first presentation was on its way. The joke was in good taste. The joke, at least to me, carried disability pride. She had revealed that he was different because his sight was different to a crowd of would be judges and suitors. The strength of the duo was refreshing, dare I say, more than the beach breeze. Being witness to this moment made me feel like I had seen a beautiful moment and one I never imagine I would see. And for this reason alone, my trip to Sugar Monkey was more than fun, it was heart-opening. The place itself is cool. Their outside was a huge garden like setting. The place had pool, however, the patio is crowded so I am not sure how people can play if too many people are there. Another thing I saw- that is a credit to this place- is that it had a wheelchair elevator. So if someone was chilling in the patio and wanted to chill in their wooded floor area- where the bar was they could use the wheelchair lift, if they could not use their legs. The place had also had kind of like an off-beat personality. It had a British phone, an astronaut that seemed to have hit a space that painted him with grafitti flare, and beers with names like green means go. I think I would go to this place again, for the beer and the air and to Karaoke. I loved this place and the activity it hosted!
