I have to start this review by stating that after patroning this establishment, it has confirmed my distaste for English style ales. Because I was not a fan of the beers, doesn't mean that others won't like them. It is most likely an acquired taste, since there are some significant differences. For example, the beers are served warmer than typical beers. Also, they don't taste as carbonated. These are two things I've become quite accustomed to and unfortunately, couldn't get past. We tried a flight of four beers: Extra Special bitters Golden ale Pale ale Brown ale Some of the flavors were quite nice, but again, the temperature and the lack of carbonation really threw me off. However, since I realize I'm not a fan of this style, I didn't want to give it a poor review. It's just not for me. Additionally, everything else about this place is fantastic. Excellent, friendly service, great atmosphere and space, and affordable ($8/flight). Worth checking out if you like this unique style of beer. Oh, and there's LOTS of board games! read more

This is a cask brewery, and I'm generally not a fan of these warmer beers, but even I had to love Yorkshire. They have a wide range and some interesting flavors. Plus the people there were really helpful and are clearly very passionate about what they do. The space is very comfortable too, we sat right by the fire and it was very cozy. Yorkshire Square Brewing is a fantastic place to go for the afternoon. The two year old brewery is set apart from the rest with a menu that contains not a single IPA and focuses on dark, sessionable beers that are common in Britain. The tap master knows his stuff and will lead your tastebuds on a journey based upon your stated preferences. They have the biggest beer cocktail menu that I have seen anywhere! And, they generally have a food vendor in the afternoon/evening. When we came, the Cultured Slice was doing cheese plates targeted for light or dark beers as well as snacks. For $9 for a cheese plate and $8 for a flight, we had a fun afternoon tasting beers and comparing with cheese while we played Candy Land with the LOs. The facility is clean, the fireplace gives it a homey feeling, and the crowd is friendly. Easy parking is the cherry on top. We will be back! read more

Love this place! As someone who loves beer but would not consider myself a beer snob, this place is great! I had the Hurly Burly, Perfectly Adequate Ale, and the lemon shandy beer cocktail. All were delicious! Just $6 a pint too. Keep in mind though that the beer is just a little below room temp, so don't expect an ice cold beer. The inside is really chill and welcoming. It's not trying too hard. It has a decent sized patio area too. This is a great place for groups. They also have some board games and cards. My friends and I got a little too into the Uno after a few rounds. Are there more "hip" breweries? Yes. Short version: Yorkshire Square is not to be missed on any tour of Torrance Breweries. The beer is authentic and the food is amazing!! Ate here for the first time tonight. After spending about 5 months in London a few years back, I've been looking for a place that pours authentic British ale and serves good British food. This place is 10s across the board. The beer is amazing, and legit pulled from authentic taps. The food from Snap Tin, which is attached to the tap room, does not disappoint. I got the Scotch Egg, Pretzel, Wedge Salad, and Chicken Sandwich. Definitely go for the "Proper Fries" with your sandwich. I don't know how they get a steak fry so crispy all the way through but it's magical. I will be back again and again. read more

Came here with my BFF after work. Was immediately treated to samples of the beer. All were very distinct, smooth and flavorful which was a surprisingly pleasant experience. No heavy or over the top beers which I really appreciate and usually find in many of the local breweries. I had the bitter which was not bitter but amazingly flavorful to go with my fish and chips. I've been a fan of Yorkshire Square's beers for quite some time, and after a monumentally disappointing visit at MacLeod Ale a week prior, I needed to good experience with some British-style beers to wash the taste (or, in MacLeod's case, extreme lack thereof) out. Thankfully, Yorkshire Square delivered: Their beers are delicious, true to style, and very drinkable. All of their beers are cask-conditioned ― "real ale" in the British parlance ― and like many British brewers, Yorkshire Square makes many beers under 4% ABV, so it's easy to enjoy a drinking session without getting plonked after one or two. Going through the three flights we had at our table, there was absolutely nothing I didn't at least like. In the efforts of full disclosure, my two friends ― both hardcore lager fans ― were not particularly enthusiastic about the beers here. They didn't hate them as they do IPAs, but they would've preferred some chilly pilsners. Yellow School Bus was the closest any beer came to their tastes, though one friend admitted she was surprised that At Last the 1948 Mild was much different (read: easily drinkable) than she expected because she had certain expectations due to its dark brown color. The taproom is comfortable, with a fireplace for the cool winter evening. There's no bar for sitting, which is a bit of a disappointment personally as that's my favorite location. But Yorkshire Square is a one of the better breweries I've visited, and despite having what would seem like a narrow focus on cask ales, they offer a good variety of choice. I wish I had gotten to stay longer, especially since I get down to this area once every twenty years or so. read more

If you are looking for English authenticity to the beer and food experience, Yorkshire Square is probably the best place you'll find west of the Prime Meridian. The beers are classic English style: less carbonation, a bit less cold, but robust with flavor. It was difficult to choose a favorite, but rest assured you will find one. They do have a limited menu and I was a bit concerned because I have went from Being a vegan to vegetarian for the last 25 years. Most of their food had meat on it according to their menu. This is a nice, easy to find place. The local "English Pub" around here. They even use beer engines for serving. We were greeted when we walked in - always a plus! They have t-shirts for sale. You can also play cornhole, chess, darts, and backgammon too. Very laid back place. This place is amazing!! We were there for the first time on Friday, and we'll definitely be back. My boyfriend has been wanting to go back everyday since our first visit because of their cask ales. When we were there we initially did a flight of 4 beers, and the curry chicken pie. We ended up getting 10 tasters because the beers were so good and a second pie which was the steak, Guinness and mushroom. Those cask ales are so smooooth and those pies were so delicious. There are not many breweries in the LA area making cask conditioned ales. Yorkshire Square offers a good selection of traditional British-style ales, with an LA twist. Great venue in downtown Torrance - I am not a beer drinker so I didn't do any tasting but what I did appreciate were the nonalcoholic options which are usually lacking. My husband ordered a flight which he very much enjoyed. English style is correct, well hello it is the Yorkshire Square Brewery afterall - what does that mean? Not as carbonated as Americans might be used to and served slightly warm. His favorite was the Jonathan, however since all the glasses were empty I would say he enjoyed them all! Do you know how long I've been waiting for a brewery to only brew English style beers?! Here's the trip part, I've never even been to the UK before but, I've had many a fish n chip to know that I love English style beers. What's the difference? Well, they don't believe in hopping the crap out of beers. They believe in smooth, easy going, approachable beers that are served at a temperature that's lower than the average beer (no, it won't be ice cold) and they're cask conditioned. Everything I had here was perfect. I think The Drift was my favorite. It's a Dark Mild ale that was definitely malty but the nice toffee notes are there too. I tasted a hint of smoke on the tail. The Early Doors Pub Bitter was great too. It's a perfect beer to hang out with . The ambiance was chill. It felt like I was in a cool British bar. I've been here a couple times now, most recently yesterday for their CASK'S NOT DEAD Cask Ale Festival. It was awesome and actually went above and beyond what I expected. A ton of cask ales on tap (25 SoCal to Central Coast breweries entered the competition) and they had a great live band playing (shout out to Whiskey Sunday for all the energy and fun!). Talked to head brewer Andy Black briefly and right away you feel his passion for what he's doing there, which is creating true traditional cask ales for Southern Californians to enjoy. Not an easy feat (I was a slow convert but love cask ales now) and he's clearly a real asset to the diverse SoCal craft brewing scene. Thanks for a great event, hope you do it again! Every time a new brewery pops up in Torrance I squeal like a fat kid seeing ice cream for the first time. I love the brewery scene in Torrance, and Yorkshire Square adds even more variety to the area. With a fun and warm atmosphere with comfy indoor and outdoor seating, I recommend this place to anyone looking for something new and different. I came here during the soft opening and ordered a flight of everything they had on tap (7 beers total). All of their beers are English style cask ales served slightly warmer than traditional beers. I'm actually not a huge fan of English ales so I'm an unfair critic. Despite my preference, I really enjoyed the Oatmeal Stout, and my boyfriend (who loves English cask ales) really liked both the Stout and the Dark Mild (exact names are escaping me at the moment). Pricing is fair and on par with the other Torrance breweries. I really enjoyed the cozy seating (small tables and some lounge chairs by the fireplace). They can hold about 40 people on their outdoor patio too. They also have darts (a dangerous prospect for the super inebriated) and some fun English tabloids.
