I decided on Promise Path after interviewing several landscape companies. Promise Path was the most reasonable related to cost and timeline. Also, Angel, the owner was open to my unusual design ideas and offered additional thoughts that were creative and practical. The contract that he presented was detailed and specified the order of the various steps in the process. Salvador, the project manager was on the scene pretty much everyday. He was so easy to work with because he is professional and open. He always informed me of potential problems and the time for completion of each phase. I enjoyed watching as the beauty of the project emerged. This was a pretty large and complicated project which involved tiles imported from Mexico and a custom built chimenea style fireplace. Promise Path clearly only hires people who have demonstrated a high level of expertise in various skills (tiling, concrete, plumbing, electrical, etc). The results speak for themselves and I couldn't be more satisfied. I should add that Salvador made sure that the property was cleaned up and that I was informed about all the small details. The Promised Path team combined there and our vision for the yards which came to fruition within just a couple months! Within days of our initial meeting, Angel had a virtual design plan created, and thoroughly explained the plans for our yards while taking into account our wants and our own visions. I really appreciated his attention to detail and practical plant plan such as using softer plants around the driveway, so if we parked our cars there wouldn't be any obstruction or plants scratching the paint (our old house had palm trees right by the driveway and it would often be a tight fit to get out). After many years of researching and talking to landscapers about our backyard project we were hooked after talking to Angel at Promised Path. Our project was big and very difficult, but Angel was completely confident that his crew could do the job, and they did. Our job involved demolition of all the concrete and hauling it all out by hand. Angel and his team reinvented my back yard!!! Their quality of work was amazing and I get continually told how amazing my yard now looks. We had our project completed may 2016. Although we are happy with our backyard design, what it took to get here was frustrating and stressful. Major problem with this company is communication. There was also a bunch of other workmanship details we had to bring up to them to fix so we ended up having to constantly overlook their work. I'll list the problems that occurred. Multiple cracks throughout the concrete. Major crack was fixed by concrete being removed and redone after we kept pushing for it to be fixed. His initial response was that it wasn't a bad crack. It was over 5 feet long. Other cracks had relief cuts added after the cracks already formed (should have been planned to be done before the cracks formed) Concrete wall was covered with stucco. Initial work was sloppy and uneven. Angel said it would resolve after a couple days but it never did. After multiple complaints it was redone and painted. Wrong style gate was built without consulting us. Redone after we complained. Issues with bench. See pictures. After we complained they redid and fixed it. Screw cracked trex wood. I asked that this be replaced. When I checked afterwards I could tell it was just sanded and filled in with filler. I brought this up and the entire piece was replaced. We had string lights installed. They bought an orange cap which held the plugs together. It was an eyesore mixed in with the black string lights. We complained and they spray painted it black. Lights would also get unplugged from the tension. I ended up fixing the lights myself with zipties. Pond pump was too weak. It would work fine initially but after a few hours it would just drip. After we brought it up. They added a bigger pump. One of the string light bulbs broke. The worker just hosed down the broken glass into the deck. We still found some glass pieces on the deck. We ended up sweeping the left over broken glass. After one year. No weed block was placed so weeds ended up growing out of control throughout our backyard. 1/3 of the plants died. The pole installed for the string lights ended up slanting over 4 inches which made our lights drop significantly. The soil in the succulent planter sunk down 6 inches. The pump stopped working. Cement started to erode in one corner. We emailed these issues to angel. He responded he wanted to come by to see our yard. After over a month he still hasn't come by. He initially had 3 stars but after this attempt to resolve these issues, it dropped to 2 stars. We get a lot of people asking who did our back yard but we tell them we wouldn't recommend them. If you do end up going with promised path, be sure to be diligent in overlooking their workmanship and fighting to get the quality of work you paid for. read more

Angel, Salvador and crew are the absolute best! I can not say enough good things about them. We had an inground pool constructed and Promised Path was referred by our builder. They weren't the least expensive quote but they weren't the most either. However, from the start Angel worked with me to come up with options that best fit into our budget. Ultimately we needed a retaining wall, concrete decking around the pool, and drains, lots of drains as we had issues with flooding. Angel was able to answer any and all questions I had. Promised Path recently completed all the landscaping/hardscaping around our newly constructed house and we are very pleased that we chose them as our contractor. We chose Promised Path as we liked the contemporary look of their projects and they delivered exactly what we wanted. We literally drew pictures of what we wanted, and the owner Angel translated our ideas into reality. They completed the drainage, gas lines, concrete paths, wood and concrete decks, fire pit, built-in BBQ, fences, plants, grass, irrigation system, and lighting. Once they started, they just kept going until it was complete. All the workers were very respectful and professional. If we had some requests, the message was passed to Angel or his Project Manager Salvador very quickly. Angel was very involved and made sure our concerns and questions were addressed. Not only is he extremely knowledgeable about landscape design and construction, he is also genuine, trustworthy, and hardworking. He is passionate about his job and gave us great advice to make the right decisions. He has an eye for detail and wants to make sure design choices will all blend well together. The team at Promised Path Landscape was fantastic, and we'd highly recommend them for any type of landscape and hardscape construction. We all know that living through construction is never "fun", but Promised Path was great to work with, and most importantly they weren't happy until we were. A+ in professionalism, communications and execution. We had a new home without ANY exterior work completed when we bought it. We needed everything - we had nothing but DIRT everywhere! They completely transformed our front, back and side yards. They did concrete work (traditional, Santa Barbara finish, smooth finish and board-form finish) custom tile work, retaining walls, drainage, exterior lighting and all-new landscaping and watering systems. They even built custom fences and fire-pit and put in a turf putting green and dog area!! Promised Path did all of this work on time, on budget, and the results are amazing. No surprises - no shocking last minute change-orders - and no push-back on things we weren't immediately thrilled with. If we weren't happy about something (big or small), they just got to work and fixed it within the day and we were back on track. We interviewed multiple companies (including all of the "Big Names") in San Diego, and from the first meeting we knew that Promised Path was going to be the right fit. They never insisted on changing something we wanted, and offered constructive ideas when were unsure what to do. They were collaborative and transparent - when we wanted to make a change along the way, they obliged us and let us know the impact of the change up-front. Lastly, they worked their tails off on our project. 5 days a week, from 7am to 3 or 4pm, rain or shine. If we needed to talk with the Project Manager, we'd simply find him on the property or text him and he'd get back to us within hours (same day). Instead of dirt and weeds, we now people stop in front of our house and take pictures of the landscaping and hardscape. We're getting tons of compliments on the project, and we've recommended them to several of our neighbors and friends. PROS: Yard looks beautiful, fair pricing CONS: Poor communication, delayed completion, inconsistent attention to detail I decided to go with Promised Path based on the great reviews I saw here on Yelp and Houzz about the quality of their work. I initially contact them in May for an estimate, and was told after meeting with Sal that he would send the bid within a week. Three weeks went by until I received the bid. I saw that others have had initial communication problems with them, and I figured that they must be busy because they're good, so I let it go. I signed the contract and agreed to wait the two months for them to start on my project. I figured that once they were ready to work on my project, that would be their focus and communication would improve. Work started a week late, but the workers were at my house every day for the first 3-4 weeks getting the major part of the project done. The quality of the work was spotty on the project manager's part. Some things received a lot of attention to detail, like putting down rebar prior to pouring cement on the patio, and building out the structure for the hot tub. However, other very basic structural things, such as building a retaining wall high enough to ensure the dirt from the neighbor's yard would not fall into my yard, were overlooked. My husband and I repeatedly had to make this request to build the wall higher. Another huge detail I found AFTER they built the BBQ island was that there were no vents installed, nor was there a separate compartment built out for the propane tank, which was clearly indicated in the instructions for the grill. I was told by the owner that they've been building them this way since 1996, however it's clearly a fire hazard and not to code. They built out vents afterwards, but had I not looked at the instructions myself, this wouldn't have happened. I made the mistake of making a final payment prior to all of the details having been completed. I paid on the day that a worker was supposedly going to complete these details, but he did not finish. Unfortunately, this dragged out them completing MOST of the details for another two weeks. Finally, the last major part of my project included building a pizza oven, in which PP was going to order a mold from a manufacturer to build from. They kept blaming the oven manufacturer for not responding to them, or not shipping out the oven, or not refunding them a payment from another oven they bought (I don't know, the story kept changing), which delayed the oven being ordered for a month. My project manager (PM) and I decided that we would try a different company. He never ordered the oven from them, despite three inquiries from me to him over the course of a week. After a week, I told him that if he hadn't ordered the oven, I could do it, and he told me to go ahead. It took me 5 minutes to place the order, and the oven was shipped the next day. It arrived two days later, and my PM agreed to have workers come out on Saturday to build it, at 8 or 8:30am. Well, Sat morning rolls around, and I get a text from him that he and someone else would come by at 10am to see what materials they would need to build the oven on Monday. I reminded him that the assembly was supposed to start that day at 8am. He doesn't respond. I don't know if he's still coming at 10am at this point. I cancel my plans for the morning, just in case. He never shows up, and I get a text at 10:30 apologizing that he doesn't have control over nature (it's sunny and in the 80's?), but he's going to send people over on Monday to build the oven and ensure all of the details are done. Things like this happened on a few occasions. I then contact the first pizza manufacturer to find out what exactly happened. It turns out that my PM never even ordered the first pizza oven to begin with and was lying to me the whole month about the manufacturer not getting back to him. Really, that was was prompted me to write this review. I don't tolerate being lied to. There were a number of other problems related to poor communication and poor follow-through, but this review is long enough. Overall, I can't say that my experience with PP has been a good one. Although my yard looks fantastic, I feel that I've had to be on top of everything to ensure things were being done correctly. Although Sal is a nice and likeable guy that you can't stay mad at, his lack of communication (I had to initiate everything) and need to be reminded repeatedly about things in order for him to follow-through was pretty stressful. I tried communicating with his boss directly in order to get the rest of my project resolved and closed out, but got a defensive and unhelpful response from him. Like other Yelpers have posted about this company, I also feel that my project was not very important to them (a $40k+ job, at that!). read more

He doesn't fulfill that "Promise" then stops by to "Promise" another day to finish and deliver the quote. He failed at that "Promise" as well. I came on yelp and saw that they had very good reviews, so I figured I'd give them a shot. I initially called them during normal business hours and no one answered. I left a voicemail as the message directed and waited for a return call back. Three weeks later I got a phone call from a lady asking me to come out and give me an estimate. At this particular moment I completely even forgot about these guys since they never called me back. The lady jogged my memory telling me that I left a voicemail. I responded back with " oh you mean the call I make three weeks ago?" Her excuse was we were so busy. Against my better judgement I still hoped they would make it right and come out nd give me a good estimate. My appointment was at 10am on a Saturday, the guy that was coming out called me at 10am and said he couldn't find my place. Now I'm assuming he was in the general area since our appointment was at 10. How ever he shows up over 45 minutes late. I spend over 2 hrs with this guy discussing what I wanted and how I wanted my back yard to look.when he was finished taking measurements he said I would have my estimate with in a week. That was well over three weeks ago and I have not heard from them. I don't care where if I ever get that estimate from them and even how much it comes in. I will never use this company for anything! read more

We needed a complete overhaul of our entire back and side yard, which is probably at LEAST double the size of most homes' yards, and easily the scariest yard they've ever seen. We knew it was going to be a lot of work, a lot of demo, and we were on a pretty tight budget. We hired Promised Path based on some coworkers' recommendations and we loved their designs. They worked with our budget, took our ideas, and pictures that we sent them of things we liked, and worked with us to put together a great design that took into account the functionality, use of space, and water-wise landscaping we had in mind. The end result was something that all of our friends and family say looks like is straight out of a home magazine. After the project was over, they were so busy, but they still tried to be available to help us troubleshoot the irrigation or provide advice on the plants to figure out what the best watering schedules were. Our decomposed granite pathways seemed to be still loose in certain areas, and they didn't hesitate to come back to fix it, and now it's great. Angel, Salvador, and the rest of the guys are professional, understanding, and great to work with. Communication was sometimes difficult because they have various jobs going on at once, so we make sure to follow up, and in the end, they always end up pulling through and delivering an amazing, functional, unique space that works for the type of home we have. What an experience! I hired Promised Path Landscaping to concrete my side yard just they did at a neighbors house. The communication with Angel was pretty easy and he made the entire process stress free! The project turned about even better than I expected and we are so excited about how it looks. I got a few quotes from other companies and although his quote was the highest I can honestly say it was beyond worth the investment. Angel answered all my questions and explained exactly what was going to happen and when and then actually kept to the schedule and finished on budget. Angel, the owner, and I had a very open conversation during our 1st meeting where I shared my design ideas and how we were going to use our backyard. While other landscaping companies would not even bother to quote or respond back, he came to our 2nd meeting with finished plans with complete details including additional design ideas, plant selection and suggestions on how to make my landscape design better along with a very attractive quote. The project started on time and finished 2 weeks earlier than planned. They never pulled the crew (great guys, very considerate, great workmanship, always on time) from my project. Did not come up with any hidden charges and were great to work with through out the entire time even including the slight revisions I made during the construction. Salvador, the project manager, was on-site almost every day but was in constant contact during the entire project regardless and always got back to me very quickly each time.
