The day before the job he shows up and comes over to chat and decline's doing the job. He tells me face to face "I'm just going to pass". I'm like what the heck. Our company went through Angie's list to get bids and this guy is unreliable unless it's convenient for him. Maybe too hot out for him to work. We have other contractors coming into work the next day and now they have to be canceled. So he cost them their jobs as well. We have other bids but now 2 weeks out due to M & M Hauling & Bobcat. He methodically took down section-by-section first by hand and then tougher areas with a bobcat. He removed the old wall's footing with precision being sure not to damage the concrete driveway where the wall and footing were connected. Alex communicated each step of the process to me as he went and ended up going above and beyond by cutting a clean line with a concrete saw at the edge of the driveway to aid in the next planned project of putting up a new fence. At the end of the demo, Alex then power-washed the entire driveway leaving the whole area cleaner than when he arrived which is amazing considering the amount of dust and debris that came from the wall removal. I contacted 4 other services to perform this demo and got prompt responses both on the phone and in-person from Alex at every step of the way. He provided the most professional and competitive quote, and I am glad that I ended up using his team to perform this work. Some things I wish I knew then that I know now might help others when planning their yards. Yes, Smart Landscape does a lovely job. Here's what would have made my upkeep a lot easier. 1. Extra protection ground cover to eliminate weeds. Some yards get no weeds because a super heavy cover has been used. I've spent countless hours pulling weeds since yards were done. 2. Go over what plants are going to be used. If I'd done that, I would've saved money and work to remove those that had needles that made it difficult/dangerous to remove. 3. If the designer had visited front yard, he would have seen the slight slope and the DG pathway would not have been a logical design choice. Rain washes it away and I'll have to eventually figure out a way to close up that space. 4. At that time, I didn't meet with the designer. I should have. Although it's a lovely design, I would have pointed out a change or two I'd have preferred. 5. Gray DG is not readily available and it has been difficult to keep the pathway refreshed. Someone said that he was going to provide it, but never did. Overall, I am glad I hired Smart Landscape. UPDATE: I needed to come back to add another star after carefully considering how wonderful Danny and his team are to work with. I had met with no fewer than nine landscape companies before Smart Landscape and they were nightmares for various reasons. Danny is wonderful to work with and makes sure the customer is happy.

What impressed me is that Dean and Robert took both and made them better, using their real knowledge of how concrete works. The control joints are placed right, they put in real drainage with actual drains and grading built throughout, and it looks clean and classy without being overdone. Flatwork around the entire house, driveway, front yard, backyard, both sides, fencing, gates. Did they get everything perfect on the first pass? Almost. What separates them is that when something was off, they owned it completely. No excuses, no pushback, just fixed. They paid attention to details that other contractors I quoted either missed entirely or only caught after I nudged them. Dean caught everything without me saying a word. Every day at the end of their shift they cleaned up and secured the site, even when it wasn't convenient. Robert ran a tight field operation and cared about every detail like his reputation depended on it. I have a young kid at home and that told me everything about who these guys are. I had my own engineer come out and review the work on-site. He looked around and said, unprompted, "You've got a great crew here." Engineers don't hand out compliments. That meant something. These guys come from commercial construction and brought that level of expertise to a residential job without going overkill. I actually spotted their truck at another client's property. Here's my honest take: if my mom needed this much work done and I couldn't be there to check in, I would still trust Dean to make sure she was taken care of. That's the highest thing I can say.

I was given an excellent variety of bricks/blocks to choose for the wall, and the one I chose was competently installed. I was pleased to note the block I chose would be sourced from RCP in Chula Vista, where I have been a regular customer. The two workers agreed to relocate the existing pavers for my reuse as part of the original job. I really appreciated that. Although I was in no hurry, the job was completed quite expeditiously with the exception of the iron gate, the installation of which was subcontracted (and reviewed separately). The final results please me immensely. A&F solved a major problem, and I recommend the company to all.

Adam Fisher, the owner of the company, came to quote a patio and offered to take off our steps and…read morepour the concrete under them, something that multiple other contractors that came for quotes did not see necessary. In the process, Adam and team broke the stairs immediately, and reassembled them with screws sticking out and chunks broken remains used to "level" the remaining stairs (photos of all work attached.) While on site, Adam asked for "200-300$" outside of the scope of the signed contract for the same work that would have been done with or without the additional request. Through the phone exchanges and emails regarding these issues Adam was arrogant and dismissive, yet also took blame for the stairs and will not resolve the issue. Adam's team poured our concrete before a heavy rain, but failed to redirect a gutter (as it had originally been before construction) from pouring directly onto the concrete causing a water stain from the pooling water on the fresh concrete. Again, when confronted with this issue and asking for a resolution Adam denied blame and said "wait a year". As of 6/11/26 there has been no reply nor efforts made on behalf of this company to repair any personal property damage nor resurface the concrete stain/ finish the job as fully paid for. We contacted Juan at LGHC Services because we liked the before/after pictures we saw on Craigslist advert. Pictures he claimed to be his work. We wanted the same results. How misleading! The cleanup was inadequate. It did not look at all like the nice clean work illustrated in his pictures. -Did not rake up all the debris that was weed whacked leaving my yard covered. -They brought their own tools but helped themselves to mine! -Charged me to haul it away but I find my trash can full of yard waste. All the while my instincts were bothering me that Juan just did not have his heart in this and he was hypersensitive as we discussed price. I should have listened to my instincts. Juan and his crew did a great job grading out my 2,750 sq ft backyard with Bobcat and installing 25 cubic yards of mulch. They also installed a new automated irrigation system in my front yard and a new drip system in the back yard, both are working great. An old 150' picket fence was removed from the front yard and a very nice, new 3', stepped down, wood fence was installed. They did a great job, were professional, responsive, reliable and finished on time and performed all work for the quoted amount which was very reasonable. Prompt, Fast, and Clean ! I had these guys come out to my house to clean off dead vines from the top of a pergola. They came on a Saturday, we discussed the job and agreed on a price. They said they would do the job on Monday. You now sometimes when you deal with someone on Craig'sList for the first time, you don't know who or what you're going to get. But these guys delivered. We had LGHC come clear a path along the back of fence with prickly bushes and a lot of brush that we couldn't deal with. They did everything we asked, they worked quickly, they hauled everything away and even used a blower to make sure every where they worked was left clean. There was a lot of weeds and overgrown trees, which we wanted to replace with concrete. I had various jobs for him over a two week period. Manuel was great from start to finish. He came quickly for our first estimate for landscaping, and the value was great. His pricing was fair. Him and his crew worked quickly to get the landscaping work done in our backyard - clearing weeds, removing a large guava tree and smaller fruit tree, trimming trees, and cutting ice plants. I was so happy with their work I asked if they could clean our palm trees. The price again was great and they did it in a few hours. After that, I worked with him to get concrete laid in our backyard. The price for concrete was very reasonable. Him and his crew worked efficiently but with quality to get the concrete in our backyard. The whole concrete process took 3 days and I couldn't be happier with the final product. I also had some side projects they completed during their time here - removing a metal shed and replacing a patio cover. Manuel was always great communicating with me and his work was excellent. I would highly recommend using Manual for your landscaping projects and will be using him in the future!

Even though I sent detailed…read moreproject info and photos, other contractors wanted to have a call first and then also come out in person for an estimate (so basically two meetings for a simply estimate, which if you are getting multiple quotes can easily turn into 6-9 meetings and tons of wasted time). Mike was able to easily set up an estimate time, come here promptly, and gave us an estimate the next days. The final trees loom great, and we are very happy.
