Tonight I ordered the pepperoni, sausage and mushroom pizza and a Chicago dog to-go. The pie was square-cut Chicago-style, with browned cheese, pepperoni, crumbled Italian sausage, and mushrooms. The sausage has the fennel note you expect on a Chicago pie, not bland grocery sausage. The dog was built the right way: Vienna beef, poppy seed bun, yellow mustard, neon relish, onion, tomato wedges, pickle spear, sport pepper, and celery salt. The restaurant still imports the dogs, sausage, Italian beef, relish, giardiniera, buns, and rolls from Chicago, and the mushrooms are imported and blanched. The dining room still has the original family photos and Chicago memorabilia. Ordering is easier than it used to be. They now have online ordering at chicagomikes.pizza, you can create an account, and they deliver. I also witnessed DoorDash there while waiting for my order to be ready; so that's an option now too. If you sign in to the new website, they run a points setup that can turn into discounts or a free side once it adds up. Confirm the current reward on the site when you order, because that part is not spelled out yet on the menu. This is still the Chicago-style stop I use in the Carson Valley: thin square pie and a Chicago dog made perfectly; not a generic pizza chain. They also sell deep dish if that is what you want. Hours are limited (typically closed Monday and Tuesday), so check before you go. Menu: https://chicagomikes.pizza/menu

We ordered the special wild mushroom ravioli in brown butter and the four cheese ravioli with chicken, the cream sauce was delicious. They brought out focaccia with an olive oil and balsamic vinegar dip which my mother exclaimed this was the best olive oil dip she's had. Also ordered the baby arugula burrata cheese and strawberry salad, which was very refreshing. The tiramisu was the best I've had in a long time! Wonderful experience and would go back if come around again to South Lake Tahoe!

It was incredibly bland and lacked flavor across the board. We even tried adding salt and pepper, hoping it would help, but it made little to no difference. For a restaurant with such positive ratings, I expected much more in terms of seasoning and overall taste. The service was okay, but communication was difficult at times because several staff members spoke very limited English. It made it challenging to explain our concerns about the food or provide feedback during the meal. The ambiance was fine, but nothing particularly memorable or unique. It wasn't enough to make up for the disappointing dining experience. Based on my visit, I genuinely don't understand how this restaurant maintains a 4-star rating. Everyone's tastes are different, but if you're looking for flavorful food, this unfortunately missed the mark. I left wishing the meal had lived up to the reviews.

They turn the lights off in eight or nine weeks and if you haven't ever eaten here, thought about eating here, or been a regular, it's worthy of one last visit, that's what we did last night. The first thing we ordered was a glass of wine each and then we moved onto a bottle of Oak Farm winery Lodi Zinfandel. We started our meal with the risotto crabcake appetizer special. We got one crabcake each, and Lea and I both thoroughly enjoyed it. We then chose the swordfish special and the cioppino as our main courses, and, again we were happy with our decisions. This was our second visit to Cafe Fiore, and on both occasions, we found the service to be special and the environment to be warm and inviting. Some might even call the environment, cozy. I concluded my meal with the house made white chocolate ice cream, and Lea was able to resist as she was full. So you've got about eight weeks and reservations will, I'm sure, get quite hard to get the closer the end comes. This was the third of three restaurants that I would consider iconic at Lake Tahoe that are closing or have closed since October 2024. Change is constant, and now three great places are gone. The good news is one of the three, Edgewood, will re-emerge after a renovation of the space, but the Lone Eagle Grill and Cafe Fiore will be gone.

We truly felt like guests. The wine list was extensive and had a great selection. We started with garlic bread. I ordered a seafood pasta which was loaded with perfectly cooked scallops and shrimp and the pasta was well seasoned and well cooked. Everyone at the table was very happy with their meals. Dessert was decadent and the white chocolate ice cream is a can't miss! This is such a wonderful date night or place for a special occasion!

Tonight we stopped in late on the way to the campground and shared three things: the calamari fritto, Garlic Bread Scusa, and the classic lasagna. The calamari & fried onions were crisp with both the cocktail sauce and the green jalapeño aioli. The garlic bread came loaded with melted mozzarella and the tomato-basil salsa (on the side; our specific request). The lasagna was the same hearty, layered version we have ordered for years, with a side of zucchini. The kitchen intuitively split the lasagna onto two plates without being asked. That small courtesy made a late shared meal easier and is the kind of detail that keeps us coming back. Food, service, and just knowing this quality waitstaff has your six still hold up after a long time as regulars. Highly recommend if you're in the South shore of Lake Tahoe!

Food - 1/5 Service - 4/5…read moreAmbiance - 4/5 Summary: Not approved by Italians My grandparents were visiting from Italy and were craving pasta; so we visited Scusa for a bite to eat. We all ordered the sausage & peppers linguine bolognese without the peppers. My grandfather (Nonno) was so agitated by the meal it took everything I had to calm him down so he wouldn't berate the very kind server. In his words: It looked like someone took a bowl of onions, sausage & peppers (they left them in) but then remembered halfway through they were supposed to be making a pasta dish; so the cook quickly added a spoonful of pasta & tomato sauce to it. It genuinely made him upset. He left scared people would go into restaurants in America and think Italians ate like that. He asked me to write this review for him so other people could know both not to order that particular dish and that not all Italian food is like that. ----- I will say for my part that the server was very nice, attentive and kind to my grandparents when receiving their passionate feedback. The place was clean and the food came out very quickly despite a full dining room.
