    Tempura shrimp
    Chuck M.

The sushi was mediocre at best. Let's start with the 6 piece tempura shrimp. The tempura had a great taste to it however, the shrimp to tempura ratioratio is way off as they cut the shrimp in half. We asked to have wasabi with our tempura shrimp however they told us that wasabi does not come with the tempura shrimp. The sushi did not taste fresh by any means. The service here seemed a little bit forced as we were only one of three customers in the whole entire restaurant. You would expect outstanding guest service. It was extremely cold in the restaurant as well. I do not believe we will be coming back here.

A cheap cut of red snapper that made me want to spit it put as soon as i ate it.

Good service. Bad raw fish. It is low quality. The fish tasted old, fishy and of low quality. And when we complained about it , the cook grabbed it off the plate with his bare hand. There are signs every where inside saying they are short staffed and to be nice to the staff. Seems like people complain often but its not the service. The waitstaff was friendly and helpful. Its the rude chef. There was also a microwave running in the kitchen. They were defrosting the frozen fish in it. "Chef Mike" was busy.

Baked Mussels and The Lily Sushi

My mom and I eat sushi at Amerikan Ni about once a month, our favorites are baked mussels and the Lily Sushi, so good, (yum). Try it, you wont be sorry!

The roll on the far right is supposedly the baked Sakura,, not even close

A few nights ago we decided to go to our used to be favorite sushi restaurant. We have had sushi twice in the last two weeks and it was really good so we decided to do it again. We are a family of five so every time we order from this restaurant we spend between 150 and $200. We are happy to do so because it is a local restaurant and we believe in supporting our locals. We ordered our dinner which came to approximately $170, my daughter went and picked it up, I was not really worried because we had ordered so frequently and they have done such a good job packaging it up and getting the order right we just knew it was going to be awesome this time as well. When she got home we noticed that a few of the rolls was packaged very sloppy we also order Ceviche every time and since covid-19 it has been takeout and they have always package the crispy shell separately so they don't get soggy being it is a to-go order. This time I noticed that they put the crispy shell under the ceviche so it was mushy and Soggy I was a little upset because I figured you would never put a crispy shell under wet fish on a to-go order for the simple fact that it's going to be a Mess by the time we get it home. I did not check the rest of the order before I called and said you know we always order Ceviche and it's always packaged separately but this time it was packaged all together and it's pretty inedible because the tortillas on the bottom are soggy and mushy she immediately went to defense and said that I would have had to ask to have it packaged separately. But they would credit me a Ceviche next time I came I was okay with that. After we got everything unboxed I noticed that my favorite roll the baked Sakura was not made properly. I order this roll every time I go to this sushi restaurant. The lady who answered the phone sent me to her manager Derek he asked me to text a picture over to him which I did and then he replied by saying that he checked with the chef and the sushi roll was made properly I told him this does not even look like the baked Sakura and anyone who has had this roll there before can look at it and see it is definitely not the baked Sakura. He was so disrespectful and told me that it was made correctly so they would not correct it. I told him I would not debate with him whether or not the roll was made correctly because I knew it was not the same roll I always order the problem I had mostly was his unprofessionalism and his disrespectful tone. I never said the sushi was not good it was just not what I ordered. After this episode I will have to say that I will not be returning to this restaurant anytime soon. I told them they could keep the credit for the ceviche because we would be finding a different sushi place to go to if that's the way they're going to treat their customers. They lost a good customer who supported them through this pandemic.

Our 2 Fugi Roll, the Lilly and the Godzilla. Yummy!

This young man was the best. We were brought chips and salsa, and we also requested the extra spicy for the Hubby. The mild was perfect for me. The chips were nice and crunchy with a great corn flavor. We did order a sangria for me and a margarita for the hubby. They have a really nice lunch menu with great prices and a very extensive regular menu. I ordered the #6 off the lunch menu. A chili relleno with the sauce on the side and a crispy ground beef taco. The rice was so good, great flavor as well as the refried beans. 5 stars for each of these. The taco was so full of meat (ground beef) and fresh veggies. The chilli relleno was huge and perfectly cooked. I get my sauce on the side so leftovers will not get soggy. Now this sauce was like a ranchero sauce, looked like onions, celery and maybe tomatoes in it. It was really tasty. Hubby got a #13 off the regular menu. 1 enchilada, he got ground beef, 1 crunchy taco with ground beef and a tamale which was shredded beef. I tried the tamale and it was very delicious. We did ask to speak to the Manager who looked a bit nervous coming over. We explained to him it was our very 1st visit and won't be our last. We told him everyone wants to call you over to complain, we were like we wanted to give you major compliments on everything from the awesome waiter Ivan to the food and atmosphere. Music was at a perfect tone etc. We were seated by the bar area in a booth. Very nice in that area. We will definitely be going back

I'll need to come back for a sit down with music, but for this visit it was a To-Go order at the counter. The order came out relatively quick and hot, so much so that I had to be careful taking it back to the car. It was a huge amount of food and so much so that it was good for 2 very satisfying dinners. Even a little microwaving on Night 2 didn't really dent the experience. My only quibble is that I prefer black beans to refried, but either forgot to ask or wasn't sure.

So there we were. We…read morewanted to take a bike ride, have breakfast, and enjoy a beautiful spring day. We did all of that and we decided to have breakfast at the Overland. We knew it wasn't going to be crowded and the food will be fresh, but it was so much more than that. Overland is lucky to employ Tennessee, who might just be the best server in the Carson Valley. I grant you that we haven't been to every restaurant and we haven't had every server and so it could be hyperbole to try to tell you that he's the best, but we need to be sure to let you know that he is clearly in the top percentile of quality, local servers. Why you ask. He anticipated our every need, and so we always had water, always had coffee, and he cleared every single time he got near the table. His positive energy is infectious. Yes, I can hear you now, what about the food? My wife can, on occasion, high maintenance, and this was one of those mornings. She ordered the Eggs Benedict without the bottom bread plus one more whole extra Eggs Benedict, and Tennessee didn't flinch. I ordered the vegetarian omelette and I had side breakfast potatoes. All of it tasted great. I even tried the hollandaise sauce on my wife's eggs Benedict and it tasted fresh and tasty. So, I say give Tennessee a raise, and when you go to the Overland, hope that you get seated in his section because it will be an experience that you won't forget soon, and the food is very good. Somehow, this breakfast restaurant is flying under the radar on Saturdays and Sundays. They truly deserve to be packed as they have the formula for success, great service, good food, and a clean environment..

Before you get there, decide how many tacos you want to eat. There will be temptation, stick to your guns. The quick and efficient service may tempt you into an extra taco, resist. Develop the plan, work the plan, stay on the plan. The same goes for weenie Wednesday. The waitress explained it to us once. The owner secures Casper brand hot dogs, bring them over the hill weekly, and the hot dog is designed to snap when you bite into it. I'm convinced this is a covert plan to get you to change your plan. I wish you the best of luck here. The weenie Wednesday menu reflects a variety of flavors that will tempt you into deviating from the plan. I've never heard of a Reuben dog, or a Caesar dog. When I grew up, I had mustard dogs. These dogs are way beyond that and the venue tempts you to try new versions of different hot dogs. One of my excuses the last time I had weenie Wednesday was that " sauerkraut is good for my gut biome." So on taco Tuesday and weenie Wednesday, you could be tempted into a second round. That's not a good thing. The service has been fun, the environment, friendly, and welcoming, people laughing throughout the room, enjoying their food. Makes it a great experience. Oh heck, you're in the building you're hungry, change the plan, enjoy.

I ended up giving him half of my pulled pork sandwich, which was really good. But I have to admit my fries weren't that good because the oil needs to be changed!

The Cajun salmon surprised me with the flavor. I wish I could have ate more but I was so full at the end. Donald duck was the normal you'd expect at any sushi place. The Jalapeños on the Geisha were tempura style and so good. The Okie dokie was a little off. Some bites were over powered with cream while other bites did not have any cream cheese. Unfortunately it ended up being one of the more disappointing all-you-can-eat sushi experiences I've ever had. We were seated around 6:15 p.m. and got our drinks fairly quickly. I asked for water with lemon but received plain water in a stainless steel tumbler. The cup looked nice enough, although it left a metallic taste. We placed our appetizer and sushi order around 6:20 p.m. Miso soup arrived about five minutes later. It was light and tasty with tofu, green onions, and seaweed, though it could have used a little more seasoning. The first appetizers came out around 6:40 p.m. The yakiton was filled mostly with krab salad and had a slightly cold center. It wasn't bad, but it lacked the crispy exterior I was expecting. The popcorn shrimp was completely coated in sweet chili sauce, which softened any crunch it might have had, and it had a slightly fishy aftertaste. The pot stickers were fully cooked and generously filled with a decent flavor, but they were pale and not crisp at all. Things went downhill from there. My wife ordered a Guapo Roll wrapped in soy paper but never received it. We were eventually told the kitchen was backed up and that it would be put on the "next ticket." By that point, the experience had already become frustrating. Several appetizers simply never arrived with the rest of the food. When we asked about them, the staff couldn't explain why. They finally showed up around 7:00 p.m., but they weren't worth the wait. The egg roll wrappers were visiblly undercooked, with raw funny wrapper, and tasted like something you'd cook from a frozen food isle. The fried oysters were gummy and had the texture of biting into uncooked dough with a fishy center. The fried scallops were bland, fishy, and lacked any crispness. Overall, nearly every fried item seemed undercooked or improperly fried. One thing I also noticed was how many rolls rely on the same ingredients. It felt like almost every specialty roll contained either krab mix or salmon, making the menu seem less varied than it first appears. Hope you like krab salad and salmon thirty different ways! The bright spot was the nigiri. The fish tasted fresh, the rice was well prepared, and both the eel and Cajun tuna were enjoyable. I wish I had just gotten a bunch of that. I also thought the Big Man Roll and Macho Roll were solid choices and would probably order those again. Unfortunately, they weren't enough to save the overall experience. For $117 for three people and two sodas, I expected much better food quality, consistency, and service. Final rating: 2 out of 5 stars. The two stars are earned almost entirely by the nigiri. Between the missing orders, inconsistent service, and underwhelming fried food, I don't see myself returning.
