Alpine Kids had its second patio lunch for families on May 30th. There were 49 of us from ages 1 month to 92 years old. They have outdoor games that kept the children engaged with their parents and with other children. Adults got to just relax and visit. Food was fabulous. Everyone enjoyed the tri-tip and chicken. The sides included, mixed veggies, Ceasar Salad, baked beans, mac and cheese, and dinner rolls. The families have requested that next time we order desserts. read more

Visited the Grill Next Door this past weekend, the staff were extremely welcoming and the space is wonderful as well. The restaurant offers a very large area for families and friends to gather as well as an equally large bar area to enjoy drinks or a meal with anyone. We found the plethora of games available for use to be an awesome additive as well. The food was great! Very interesting take on American classics and came hot from the kitchen quickly. This place rocks! We came after a softball game and they had enough room for the whole team, parents and siblings. We sat and played games while we drank some local brews and waited for our food. The staff was very kind and patient, I can only imagine the stress that comes from all of us being there, hungry, thirsty and loud. The food was great and plenty, I couldnt finish my dinner and I'm not a small man. I love that I have left overs. If you're in the neighborhood, this is the place to be. I came here midday just before they were moving from breakfast to lunch. I quickly scanned the breakfast menu but actually had a hankering for a Cheesesteak sandwich. I paired that with a cup of their delicious tomato basil soup. I'd come back just for more of that...! Maybe pair it with a grilled cheese next time. The Cheesesteak was okay. Lots of gristle and tough fat that I had to pull from my mouth, but the overall flavor was decent. We pass through or by Gardnerville frequently and found ourselves ready for dinner on this trip. At first we passed by The Grill Next Door and started looking for somewhere else. So glad I stuck to my guns and got hubby to 'back track'! The restaurant is tucked into a small strip mall, almost overlooked. One might go so far as to say this is a hidden gem of a place. Inside we found a sports bar atmosphere with family friendly seating on the other side of the bar. They even had games and pet friendly seating on a back patio. I ordered the Pesto Chicken sandwich with TATER TOTS on the side. It was delicious. Tots were cooked perfectly. Hubby had the chicken Caesar wrap. He said it was great. We went there tonight and there was barely anyone there which was nice. We ordered, onion rings and fried pickles for appetizers. Its 30 minutes for those to come out. 3 other families were sat after us. My husband ordered fish and chips and I ordered the BBQ bacon wrap. An hour after sitting down all the families were given their food before us. We asked how much longer and they told us that they just got a big online order and they were doing that first then they would start on ours. I told them to cancel it. Everyone was served before us that were sat after us and we didn't want our food any longer. I thought this place was great before. The service is horrible now. The waitress had a major attitude from the get go. I just checked my bank account and turns out the waitress gave herself a $20 tip. Our bill was 31.60 and we were charged 51.60. She stole from us. Amazing burger! Stopped here on a whim on our way back from June Lake. Had the "Danimal" burger and it was quite possibly the best burger I've ever had and I live near a place where people stand in long lines for our local burger joint. This burger was cooked to a juicy, perfect medium, with a soft bun and well balanced sauce to topping ratio. The fries and ranch were also very good. The bartender was so kind and made me a refreshing"Bee's Knee's cocktail. The place is really unassuming at first glance, but do yourself a favor and stop here for a very well made burger and a taste of local atmosphere. read more

It definitely was tricky to find once the sun went down but the parking lot was full of cars which helped give clues to the location. It was pretty full which was a good sign upon arriving. Turns out they were having DJ Trivia that same night on the other side of the restaurant so little by little people appeared to trickle over. The staff were attentive and friendly. I went the "healthier" route and ordered a chicken cesar wrap and a while after learned that they ran out of tortillas so I had to go with a salad. Which was fine, I just found it interesting that it took 15 minutes to learn this. The waitress comped my soda so that was nice. The menu is abundant with lots of options. I now know that if there is not a sign and it look like the place is out of business that's usually a winner. I did enjoy the large flavorful salad and my friend enjoyed her burger. Well, let me start by saying how much I wanted to love this place based on other people's experiences. I can say that we were greeted by an extremely friendly woman who told us to go ahead and sit wherever we wanted. She quickly brought us menus and water. We ordered an appetizer, and unfortunately they were out of the cauliflower that we wanted, so we passed on an appetizer. We both ordered a burger. I ordered a side of the creamy tomato soup instead of fries. I normally love tomato soup, but this one was not good. It was a "creamy" tomato and the tomato flavor was lost in the cream. My burger had good flavor, but was definitely on the dry side. Perhaps a bit over cooked. I didn't try the other burger, but he said it was awful. He said it too was dry, and lacked flavor. The Grill Next Door is a Gardnerville staple. The staff are always nice and attentive and the owners are also awesome. I love that it has an arcade/game area and a full bar. It's a great place for family and a great place to hangout and enjoy some delicious food. Most recently I tried the cheese steak and it was delicious! They took over a sports bar which has some arcade games, TVs and poker machines (which weren't ready for play yet). We sat in the open room with the arcade games, I would not suggest sitting in there again as it gets a little noisy when folks use the machines. We ordered the Danimal grilled cheese once again and I went with the award winning Danimal burger with onion rings. Both were outstanding. The only hiccup was the tomato soup my wife selected as a side with her grilled cheese. Unfortunately, we felt it leaned more towards marinara sauce than a traditional soup, prompting her to set it aside. Upon settling the bill, our attentive waitress inquired about the uneaten soup, and upon learning of our dissatisfaction, she promptly offered to replace it with a clam chowder to go. Somewhat hard to locate, didn't have a sign on the front/top of the building. Ended up passing it. After finding the restaurant we walked and we were in for a surprise. The restaurant is divided into 2 parts. One side (adult side) is tables and a bar with slot machines built into it. The other side (kids side) is arcade games, claw machines and air hockey. So it's safe to say it's a family friendly experience. The waitress was super nice. The menu is pretty simple American style food: Burgers, salads, wraps, grill cheese sandwiches and more. The food was ok nothing special. We ordered the wings with garlic parmesan dry rub and something didn't taste right. 2 of my family members and myself ate the wings and we felt sick. Let me say that Dan's food is excellent. And I have been a patron of his since he was on Langley in the Ranchos. But I have to say certain things have kind of made it not worth it to me to continue being a customer. The prices have gotten excessively high, the add ons for Togo orders get added to every item, the food quality goes down when Dan's not there, the service and food wait times have gotten drastically worse, the noise can be unbearable at times and they even put a charge on my single item Togo order for "Gratuity 6+". Ironically I tip well on Togo orders. So upon seeing this I got to the point where I was content no longer being a customer and said something inappropriate, which normally I would not do but I sort of hit a breaking point. We are from out of state and my husband picked this place to try. It was Sunday and they serve breakfast on the weekend. I chose the chicken fried steak with 2 eggs, home fries, and toast. I did ask for the gravy on the side. This was the best sausage gravy I have had at a restaurant. The chicken fried steak was a large portion and delicious. Potatoes were crispy and cooked through. My husband had the french toast, eggs, and chicken sausage. He was very happy with all of it. The about said that the food is cooked to order so it may be a short wait. It's been over 6 years since I've reviewed this place. We have gone twice recently since they moved to their new location. The place has had a bit of a makeover compared to the place that once occupied it. I'll start with the positives and then the negatives. The food is still fantastic and so are the prices. I just reviewed a place in Lake Tahoe that had their burgers ranging between $23-$25! Insane especially for locals! The Grill Next Door has hands down the best burgers around! We paid $10 less than in Tahoe! Their Danimal Burger is their best burger but you can't go wrong with the others. If you like one with a kick, the Burning Man was great. The Cobb Salad was reasonably price however I wished it had a bit more lettuce. I should have seen if they could have given me a little more but I didn't ask. The Cuban Quesadilla was like a quesadilla on steroids! It was a huge portion! We did have confusion of what burger was what as they looked the same so we had been given the wrong burger for the 2 people in our party. My husband was given my friend's and my friend was given my husband's. It wasn't until a couple of bites in did they realize it. Too awkward for them to switch it now. As for mine, was given correct burger but had asked for tots and was given fries instead. The server was swamped so I just ate the fries. Also be aware that if you pay by credit card they add 4% to your tab. I wished they would have just increased their prices by $.50 each instead. They give you the bill with it automatically included. Not sure if you put cash in there if they would take it off without you bringing it to their attention or not. What is their policy for their workers to do? If they don't take it off then that's just profit for the business or the server. Still this place had great food. Mistakes do happen from time to time. If not, you might want to start there, and the first thing you'll notice is that I did not order food with health in mind, and you'll be tempted to do the same. I even asked my wife, when I go to get my haircut today should I tell them to give me some distance as I had the garlic parmesan fries last night as part of my dinner. She thought I was okay.... Now you need to know that nobody twisted my arm, as there are salads on the menu, and they look darn good, but for dinner the other night, nothing was going to get between me a cheeseburger (mine customized to include jalapenos), french fries, and onion rings. Nuts and bolts? New location, now in the former home of Philadelphia, more indoor seating, several outdoor tables (in the era of Covid this is a must and appreciated), friendly help (I was greeted warmly), and they handled my take out order professionally (it was wrapped up nicely, ready to go when they told me it would be, and the paying process went quickly). My original review was when Grill Next Door was in the Ranchos, and it was as covid was starting to permit us going out a little more. I wasn't impressed. But now, in this new location, fantastic. They took over a space formerly inhabited by a horrible place that was dark, dusty, with musty carpeting and horrible decor. It looks like the owners ripped it down to the studs and started over. It's beautiful! It's light, airy, the people are friendly, and the food is great. We will definitely be back! read more
