I called bc they advertise $93 drain clearing (which Is what drain magic charged when this happened before, which is who I thought I was calling). I showed the guy exactly what was wrong and where the clog in the line was. He said it's over $500 but he'll do it for $250! It took him all of 5 minutes to insert a pressure washer hose into a hole already made in the pipe and clear it. It could have been done I'm sure with a snake. Dude last time cut the pipe and then fixed it with some kind of fitter and still only charged me $100. I will not call pronto again in the future. Pretty sure they're trained to avoid the $93 fee and push for higher prices. read more

I feel I need to begin a special column for Proto Plumbing & all the great things they have done in my new home. I just purchased a 3 year old home 3 months ago. Within the first 6 days I had a heating problem. The heat died! On December 13th 2025 I had a water heater main line break which flooded much of my house. The shut off valve was sandwiched too close between the water heater & the wall. A ten year old child could not have reached that valve! The water heater had to be moved away from the wall & the shut off value was placed in a more accessible spot. Yesterday, Jan. 8th 2026, my master bath developed another water leak under the sink. Apparently the house was bult with tubing too close to the vanity drawers so that basically every time you shut a drawer you hit the plastic coupling that held 2 pipes together. Just a matter of time before that ruptured, which it did on my watch! Patrick Goodyear came on the scene at 8 am Jan. 8th, for what he must have assumed would be an easy fix of a leak. Then he discovered major repair work was needed as not only did he have to reroute the pipes, but then on inspection of other parts of the house he found water at the base of the power vent water heater & he also noticed that the expansion tank on the water heater had expired & so he replaced that. It should not have happened in an almost 3 year old house. He found several other anomalies & was replacing parts & repairing things for 5 hours! He installed a hard water mitigating filter system that will remove or reduce chlorine & other impurities. Patrick was great, kind, efficient, patient with my questions & explained the problems he found & showed me where he found issues that needed to be corrected. I would recommend this very valuable young man to everyone I know! I will certainly stay a loyal Pronto customer! Don't let the $93 advertised drain cleaning for you it's a lie! My appointment was for first thing in the morning between 8:00 and 9:00 plumber never showed up until 9:40. Once he was there he never even tried the $93 advertised opening he just went right to the hydro opener the high pressure hose and said this is what we'll have to use oh and by the way it'll cost you $599. I asked about the $93 drain opening he said that was for mild clogs I asked again how do you know you didn't even open the pipe yet to look at it no answer just we have to use the high power hose. This business will overcharge you. I had a tech come out to quote me on the replacement of a kitchen faucet and leaking valves leading into the basement. After looking over everything he suggested replacement of all exposed copper piping within the basement and to add a water monitoring system. I figured since they'd be there might as well do it. He quoted me around $8500. It's my first house and I've never had anything like that done before so I figured maybe it's a difficult task that might take a few days justifying the cost. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I agreed to the work and he said they could start in the morning.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I asked what they do with the old copper to which he said they recycle it. I told him I wanted to keep it then. I was told this was not possible as it's a flat rate no matter how much work was done based on one bath group. I had him send what he had to look over. The final bill came to $7469. That paid for two techs to be here a combined total of 9.5 hrs. After the tech left I decided to look over my outdoor camera to check into the copper that seemed to be missing. This confirmed what I'd thought. The tech is seen pulling a basket out of his truck telling the other "I'm going shopping, for copper, hahaha." Exact words. Two hours later he comes out of the house with some to put in the garage, and the basket full of cut lengths of pipe goes into his truck. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I sent an email through their site reporting the incident and the Operations Manager gave me a call. He explained it as miscommunication, that I implied the tech could keep whatever copper he supposedly thought I didn't want.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] He was happy to tell me the basket of copper was returned and then some that the tech also had. Horrible. Had dripping tub faucet...Moen. Patrick from Pronto Plumbing came out. Quoted over $1000.00 to replace it. Said it was difficult job. He had recently did similar job that took 4 hours due to lining up pipes. Called another Plumbing company, 3 generation family business. Technician came out next day, replaced cartridge & handle & it was fixed within 15-20 minutes. And the trip fee was $22.00 less than Pronto, not to mention the hourly rate and parts was very reasonable. Pronto wanted another $1400.00 to replace a simple pedestal sink faucet and simple kitchen faucet. Draw your own conclusion...scammers, incompetent? The quote was over $6000 so I decided to call another company to get another quote. The plumber that came out to check our line (Chris) was great. He knew what to look for and walk me through the process of checking the line. He showed me all the damage on the camera screen and spoke to me about what it would take to remove and replace the entire pipe line. We agreed to have his team come out about a week later to remove the old pipe, replace it with a new pipe and (since they were already going to break the cement in our basement) have them put in a shower drain line so we can turn our 1/2 bath in our basement into a full bath, Chris also spoke to me about and agreed to put it a drain right outside of the bathroom in case we every get a leak or flood. The day comes and the team arrives, they get to work pretty quickly. My wife and I noticed that they didn't put any sort of covering or protections on the floor, walls or any other surface. They used our backyard cellar entrance to come in and out all day. My family stayed out of the basement and backyard, in an effort to stay out of their way. When they finished the job, they asked us to come out side and sign the paperwork. We did and they left. A little while later, my wife and I walked downstairs to see the work they did and were SHOCKED at the unbelievable MESS they left in our property. They workmen tracked mud throughout our entire basement floor, they got cement and mud all over our bathroom and basement walls. They even got some mess on the ceiling! Also, to top things off they never put in the drain outside of our bathroom. They just completely ignored that part of the job! Before they left, they informed us that the toilet was removed as part of the drain work and that Chris would be by in 2 days (to give the cement time to cure) to reinstall the toilet. Well, needless to say, after I saw the disgusting mess that was left in my basement, I called the company (but they were already closed) and left a message with the service. A gentleman stopped by our house the next day and said he received the message and wanted to see the mess. He took a look downstairs and seemed very surprised at what he saw. He said that the amount of mess and mud that was tracked throughout our basement was definitely more than they should have ever left and that it wasn't acceptable for them to leave our home like that. He said that Chris was going to come by the next day to reinstall our toilet and that he would come with someone to clean up our basement. We thanked him and he went on his way. It has now been over A MONTH and no one has come by to clean up the mess. No one has responded to any of my calls or voicemails. No one has done a single thing to help us out. Just look at the photos! What's crazy is if you look at the picture of our toilet, you see they laid out a roll of blue plastic under it! So they had something they could have easily laid out to protect our floor, they were just to lazy to! It would cost us hundreds of dollars to have someone come and clean up that mess and we'll likely have to (at best) repaint or (at worst) replace walls because they got mud AND cement on the walls and cabinet downstairs. I have been in the service industry my entire adult life and I am in SHOCK at the lack of not just customer service but just human decency that Pronto Plumbing and its staff have given us. They sent a technician the next day, he was very nice, polite, and explained things thoroughly.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] But, they do not thaw frozen pipes. Tech said they cut out the frozen pipes and replace them, then put on new heat tape, and insulation. (Tech refused to put new heat tape on the frozen pipes). All for the cost of $6000 to $10,000. REALLY!!!!! Tech said to "crawl under mobile home is $600". They charged me $69.00 to tell they don't thaw pipes. Why didn't they tell me that when I called? Sounds like a racket to me, or did they just take advantage of an old lady. The tech said he had been to over 20 mobile homes this week. Our regular handyman (30 years experience) became available. He replaced backing plate on water meter(this was broken in half from freezing). There were no other leaks . Our regular handyman put on new heat tape and rubber pipe insulation. 3.5 hours labor and charged $160. parts $86. grand total $246. ( yes , $246. this is the correct amount) . Not sure why my locality says San Francisco CA Central PA is correct........AWFUL! My bad for not being more careful. Overcharged for absolutely the worst results for the work done. Kind of like going to a restaurant and being overcharged for an awful meal and or service. It leaves a bad taste in your mouth. I was in a pickle with a leaking basement exterior wall pipe during a serious cold snap. I was able to do a small fix till I could have a "professional come out and look at what might have been unseen. I got a quote and knew it was based on this "professionals" assessment. I agreed to the price more out of a concern for what might happen if I didn't based on the extreme cold. Well, that was a huge mistake. After the quote this professional gave me, he tried to upsell me on more work. I declined as the additional costs was more outrageous. I was not available after the professional left as my wife paid for the work. When I was able to view the work I was a gasp! What slop job! It looked like a kid played lego's with my plumbing. I looked around the basement area trying to see what the other issue that was mentioned and could see not a place that looked like he even looked! I went back to the scene of the crime where the insulation had to be removed because it got wet. It was not replaced. The water pipes froze again that evening. Thankfully no leaks. I am not sure if the Plex pipe that was used to replaced the copper piping was less prone to cracking due to extreme cold or not. Thankfully it did not leak. I got some electric heaters to put near the walls to make sure it would at least get the pipes unfrozen. [[HIGHLIGHT]]This "professional" did not review what he saw by actually showing me what he was referring to.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]Then I thought to myself, I paid $1***.** for this?! I then called the office and asked to talk to a supervisor about the amount and the work. The answer I received was BS. "Oh, we dont charge the the hour (this tech was at my home for 3.5 hours, and that is generous as he showed up 45 min late) materials, we charge by the task! WTF!. I requested a breakdown of the cost. All I received was the total amount. After I received the email and replied for a breakdown of the "tasks" but have yet to receive that information. Yes, I agreed to the work. My bad for not getting other prices. I am now going to go out and get more insulation and foam insulation to cover the pipes. I write this because I feel violated. Overpriced! I called them to fix a water line pinhole leak in the basement. This was not an emergency call. The technician was in the basement with his tools for 20 minutes. The repair required a 4 ft piece of pipe and 2 fasteners. I priced the materials at less than $20.00. My total bill was $580.00. I requested a detailed, itemized bill of which they would not provide. This review pertains only to quotes for new equipment. Note: We did not use this company for service. The onsite estimator was courteous. However, we called Pronto plumbing for an HVAC quote via the Trane referral site and received several cost varied quotes that were vague (no model #, a broad SEER2 range, zero quotes for the referring brand, immediate upsell on a biannual service plan, very few install details regarding what was included vs. excluded). When we asked them to provide this information in writing they preferred to initiate a call. As a buyer, we prefer a contractor that has these specifics in writing so that we can compare and shop. Hopefully in the future they up their estimating game to be on par with other reputable contractors. We could not consider them for our HVAC needs because of this. read more

We called Pronto to assess our water heater in January. The technician, Jesse West, came out to our house on January 11 and told us we would need a new one. He showed me the figures for one with a tank - about $6300, and a tankless one - about $7400. Jesse told me I could receive a rebate for the tankless water heater from the gas company. I asked how much and was told about $1400. I said that the tankless water heater would actually cost us less than one with a tank. My husband came into the room and I repeated what Jesse said and he responded in like fashion that we would actually end up spending less for the tankless one. Flash forward four weeks and I received a check for $400 not $1400. I called in to complain and had to repeatedly call to get a response from Jesse's manager, Bobby. When Bobby called I repeated the events surrounding choosing the water heater and he said it was all heresay and there was nothing he was willing to do. I told him he should teach his workers not to tell customers the amount of the rebate and that they should tell customers to research it for themselves before making a decision. He just kept repeating that there was nothing in writing and that I could always get a tax break next year for installing a high efficiency water heater. I repeated that he should tell his men not to tell people the rebate amount. He insisted that some gas companies gave as much as $1400, which is a lie because according to the pa.gov site rebates range from$250 - $500. He then basically called me a LIAR for stating that Jesse told me $1400 because he, Bobby, wasn't present for the conversation. That was the last straw. They did show up timely, only charged me $93. However, technician used the camera in the main sewer line out of the house and said, look here, your pipe is crushing, this line will need to be replaced. He told me he could "power wash" inside the pipe because the cast iron could use cleaning BUT he couldn't because at the end of the cast iron pipe, into the septic tank, was orangeburg and that's like a paper material and the thing to clean the cast iron would destroy that part of the pipe. He said we may be able to wait a little while to replace that pipe but if it clogs again in the next week, we'd need to consider replacing sooner rather than later. The quote to replace the line from the house to the septic tank is about 10-12 feet from the house, and at most 4 feet down and the quote was $4,600. Low and behold a week later, our sewer backed up again! I was so upset and worried, we don't have that kind of money right now. I called our plumber and he referred us to someone else. THANK HEAVENS!!! Drain & Pump came out, the clog was never completely removed. They used the camera, showed us the clog, unclogged it. We asked them to look for damage to the pipe based on Pronto Plumbing's recommendation. No pipe crushing, no orangeburg at the end into the septic tank, no need for replacement. So, I definitely think Pronto Plumbing was trying to take advantage of us. We had a brake in our sewer system which meant not being able to use our bathroom (not a pleasant experience). We called Pronto Plumbing the same day we found the break in our system. They came out that very afternoon which was on a Monday and by Wednesday our sewer system was fixed. I can say that we are very pleased with the prompt response and great work. Pronto Plumbing must have had their entire crew helping and they did a great job which included fixing the line from the inside of our home to where they tied it into the outside system, putting access ports (inside and outside). Good work, prompt work. However, VERY expensive and deceptive in the way they break down the charges for the work they do. You get charged according to what the issue is, not by the cost of the parts and the time spent. One gasket needed replaced on a toilet and a new supply valve. The parts could not have been more than $20. The man was actually working for well under a half an hour, and the bill was almost $300!!! If I knew what the issue was I might have been able to do it myself (the one was not obvious). Also, "Pronto Plumbing" is a name that sounds like an independent local plumbing company but they are actually a subsidiary of a larger company. They would not give me an estimate over the phone for a simple dishwasher, sink, and disposal hookup, and when they got here quoted an outrageous price well over $1,000. Since we had been without a kitchen sink for several weeks after a remodel, I reluctantly agreed. After the job was completed they insisted I pay on the spot. When I requested a 30-day payment period like most businesses have, it was escalated to a manager who said if I didn't pay on the spot, they would have their guy rip out everything he had just done. He didn't turn on any water to evaluate the issue. He just gives me a $10,000 estimate to remove the cast iron pipe and dig up concrete to replace pipes under the floor.
