My kids and I have been trying all the local eats in E.C. while my husband has been deployed. And now that he's back we've been taking him all over. This past weekend we went to Proof and it was delicious. The wait staff was super attentive, the entire restaurant was clean, tidy, cozy. My only complaint was that the complimentary bread we always get was super hard and burned. It is usually the highlight of the meal but this go round it was sort of a let down.

Excellent service. Gabe great recommendations on drinks, food and a realistic expectation for food that is made to order so we wouldn't get frustrated with a wait. The pizza was delicious and the setting is beautiful. A little disconcerting watching your glass slide across the table as the whole restaurant feels as if it is falling into the river.

This is the best restaurant in northeastern NC, and the only one that could be stuck amongst 5-star diners in a major city. The chef makes all the pasta, breads, and sauces in house and each seasonal menu has a theme. My favorite so far was the poetry-themed menu of last winter. Also, I've never passed up dessert here since the cannolis are to die for. Despite the elite quality, the prices are still very reasonable and the service feels like a local family-run diner. On top of all that, it's in a lovely blue building right alongside the water.

Shrimp and grits. My wife loved it, but said she would order it next time. With the grits, separate from everything else.

I had the a skillet lasagna, and my wife had the shrimp and grits. Amazing food, a great atmosphere with a nice view. Staff was nice, and we're definitely going to be repeat customers.

First time here with another couple who's been many times. Loved it! It is VERY loud because if the bare floor and open and airy concept, but you just have to expect that going in. Reservations highly recommended! I made ours 4 weeks ahead and could only get the 5PM time slot on this particular Saturday. Which was actually a great thing! Everything is made fresh (including breads, pasta, and pizza crust), so the meal took about 2.5 hours. Timing between courses was excellent, and we neither waited too long nor had a table full of dishes. Come with an appetite! We shared two apps, then a LARGE salad came with each entree, and full basket of breadsticks. The menu is unique and creative, and our wonderful server Donna did a fantastic job of explaining everything. Highly recommend for a date night!

Great waterfront view, service was good and the food was good. It is a hidden gem in Elizabeth City.

Best upscale bang for your buck, HANDS DOWN! The staff is super friendly and they work cohesively. Great drinks and the food is Breadsticks were so dank, and those meatballs.... How you Dooooin'! The lettuce they used for the salads, so fresh. We both got renditions of the chicken park and both were really good, but we though the chicken could've been a bit more tender. The cannolis are a MUST, I mean look at them. A restaurant on the river with gorgeous sunset views. Couldn't ask for more.

THREE TIMES IN... AND BARLEY'S IS ON POINT AGAIN. SOLD!…read more Let me tell you about the pizza nightmare we've experienced over the last four years of living in a small town. I would have taken a picture but we ate it all! We consider ourselves pizza aficionados (yes, we have standards). We like a good sauce, not an obscene amount of cheese, and a crust that can actually fold when you need it to--but also one that, when you hold it by the crust, doesn't droop like an old man's eyelid. Over the past four years, we've tried our fair share of pizza places in Elizabeth City where we live and every one seems to have had something that just didn't work for us. Too much cheese. Wrong sauce. Soggy crust. You name it. Just YUCK! Now, we aren't the people who bash restaurants or leave negative reviews just because something wasn't our cup of tea. If we're going to take the time to say something, it's because it's GOOD--and, more importantly, CONSISTENT. And Barley's? Three visits in, and they've delivered every single time. The wings deserve a shout-out too! These aren't those weakling, baby-chick wings that leave you wondering where the actual chicken went. They've got some meat on them, and the hot flavor has just the right kick. Now, you're not going to Barley's for fancy ambiance--and honestly, that's perfectly fine with us. We like our house. We pick up our food, put on the game, and eat exactly where we want. So, without a doubt, we are officially happy to report: WE LOVE BARLEY'S. And to all the other pizza guys out there... You might want to keep an eye on this one. Barley's is a silent gem, and word is definitely getting out.

If I was just grading the flavor of the Stromboli - it would have been a 4.5. Right amount cheese,…read moremeat and sauce for the $16 price. The lower rating is for multiple other factors. Starting with the long wait for the delivery - Ordered at 5:35 and received the order at 7:09p. I would understand if it was a busy Fri or Sat night but it's 5:30 on a Wednesday. Then the cheese bread would have been ok but Wow was there a lot of grease in that box (check pics). Then when I went to dip into the marinara - it was ice cold. I ordered a side of ranch but since they sent it in the box w/ the bread & was Luke warm. Just not a good mix. I would give them a try again because of the flavor of the sauce and taste of the Stromboli but next time might dine in.
