Food was delicious, if deceptively labelled: - shrimp scampi was more lemon than garlic - chicken Marsala was more Alfredo than Marsala Both were tasty, tho not what we were expecting. And their handmade pasta is terrific! We were there mid-pandemic, and our biggest disappointment was the service. When we arrived, the waitress seated us with her mask falling below her upper lip. And what started as somewhat leisurely service became painfully slow by the end. After 2 solid hours, we decided we couldn't wait longer for a dessert. The other staff appeared to be much faster, as several parties who were seated after us finished and left before us. We would have been much less concerned if we'd been outdoors. We have found a new Italian restaurant that is local and uses local food in their menu!! You can have your pasta made in front of your table in a cheese roll complete with a torch to heat it up and toss your pasta in... The salad is from local produce vendors and the dressing is also hand made. Everyone around us was raving about how good it is so we were not the only happy customers. read more

I don't even know where to start. I had planned a middle school field trip with gifted students starting in December. Andrew was so accommodating and worked out a super plated meal that was within our budget. At 4:30 the day before our event, we were notified that school would be closing 2 hours early. The staff at Paradiso Roma quickly shifted gears and made the meal available for pick up an hour earlier than we planned! They were amazingly cooperative and supportive of out last-minute changes! I had the Scallop Scampi and my husband had the Shrimp and grits, we both cleaned our plates! The scallops were huge and the best I've ever had, they seriously melted like butter in my mouth! I drove up from New Bern to meet my sister, brother in-law and Dad. We went here based on some research my 'ELITE' Yelper sister Lynne P had found, and since all the other places were closed. The menu looked great online and I looked forward to trying a few things we seen. So, off we go and arrive about 3 hours later. We were quickly seated since we were like the only other ones there, off peak hours. The atmosphere was cozy, very open and on the water. That to me was a plus since that is my favorite way to eat, water front. We glanced over the menu and was ready to dive right in. I started with an app of Mozzarella Cheese Sticks...NOPE, we are out..Hmm..Ok, How About some Crab Apps, I think like Crab Puffs or something, NOPE, we are out. Hmmmmm. So, Fried Ravioli it is which was ok. Nothing to shout and scream about but was not bad either. Moving on now to the lunch which I was hoping for redemption. Now, I know this is a hit on me and wont give bad marks for it but I am particular about certain things I DO NOT LIKE. Most of which is Onions, Peppers and Mushrooms. Those are the big three that I avoid at all costs. Being this is an Italian place, I knew I was in for a challenge. Hoping things are cooked to order, I can typically avoid them and still get a good meal. However, this was not the case. I started off with trying the Shrimp and Grits, NOPE..Filled with the top three that I am not a fan of. OK, how about the Lasagna, NOPE, has some of the top 3 as well. With my spirit broken, I went ahead and just ordered a Pizza. I will say that it too was just ok. Not bad but not has good as my local place. Good thing they had a really good desert that came in some sort of Chocolate Ball. That desert and the company are what made it worth the drive, more the company. I will say that my wife liked her Eggplant Parm and son liked his Shrimp Alfredo so not a miss all the way around. I would not discourage anyone from going but I would more than likely not revisit. This is a hidden gem!! Beautiful lake views and some of the most delicious, homemade Italian food I've ever had. The prawns were succulent and the white wine butter sauce was the perfect accoutrement. Next, I had the Caesar salad with homemade dressing and croutons. Very fresh and light. I was getting pretty full, so ended up with the eggplant tower. Layers of delicately fried eggplant with fresh mozzarella and a balsamic glaze. Each bite was delightful! Getting in and out of the parking lot is hard enough, but to go through all of that for some high-priced food? No. If you like vegetables, you'll love this place. Tiramisu is my favorite in all the world, so I ordered that. Now, when the Villa Restaurant was open, they made the best tiramisu there is. This place doesn't get it at all. There was no taste of coffee. No taste of coffee liqueur. Just a cloying, sweet glob covered in a half inch of cocoa. Right then and there I wanted to grab the chef by his ear, drag him into the kitchen, and teach him how to make a REAL tiramisu. Suffice it to say that we won't be going back there again. I made reservations for my husbands birthday. We had just moved to the area and heard this was the place to go. Once we were seated we waited almost 20 min before someone came and spoke to us. Another table was seated after us and already had their drinks. I had my hand on purse about to get up and that's when we were asked if someone had been to our table. That waitress/hostess took our drink order and then a few moments later another waitress came and said sorry she was busy and asked if we had questions about the menu. We ordered and our food came fairly quick. My husband got the shrimp and grits he said it was good but disappointed the shrimps had the tails on them. He had to go through and take all the tails off before he could dig in. I got the chicken Parmagiana and it was really good! Everything tasted fresh. The sauce was very flavorful! Once we had our check and we were waiting on the change to come back I heard a waitress at another table came out and tell her table "hey I have bread" and the table cheered. I looked at every table and each one had a silver basket of bread except us. It was our first time there and I didn't know you were even supposed to get bread. This was not a great experience to celebrate my husbands birthday and we will likely not go back. My food was great which is why I gave the one star, but the service was blah and I expected so much more from the high reviews. read more

My mother and I were in Elizabeth City and the place we normally go was closed so we gave this new restaurant a shot. We found it on yelp and what a great surprise!!! The food was fresh, delicious, and affordable. The fresh pasta and fresh mozzarella were incredible. I lived in New York for two decades and I can tell you the food is authentic. Oh and to top it off the view is outstanding. Can't wait to come back in warm weather to sit on the deck. The chef came out to check on us, which was a great touch. Yesterday my favorite son-in-law and my daughter took me to this restaurant they have been raving about. They have told me about how the managers use locally grown ingredients as much as possible, which I know takes ingenuity and extra planning. Also, everything is made fresh at the restaurant, even the cheese and pasta. So, i finally got to try it for myself. My first impression, once inside was the beautiful waterfront view, as well as the clean, serene, tastefully decorated inner restaurant. Being a rather chilly February day, we didn't elect to dine outside on the sun deck over the water, but I look forward to that another time. Our waitress couldn't have been more pleasant or helpful. She kept our glasses full and answered all our questions. And the food! I ordered Mamas meatballs which comes with red sauce and homemade pasta, even pink beet heart shaped pasta as a little decorative touch. It also comes with a salad, and I chose the white vinaigrette dressing. We ordered breadsticks, and with my salad, I could have stopped right there and been pleasantly satisfied. But the entre was so delicious, i didn't want to stop. Those meatballs were out of this world, not to mention the sauce and pasta. I can't wait to go back and try other menu choices, if I can abstain from Mamas meatballs! Also, next time I am definitely going to try the cannoli. I can't wait!! read more

My wife and I went here for the first time on a Thursday night. Service was good and the waitress was kind and accommodating. They delivered fresh bread sticks which had cheese, garlic, and olive oil on them; within a few minutes to our table. The bread sticks were pretty good but could use a side of red sauce. I ordered a calimari appetizer which was a large portion (which is good), but it was overly breaded with breading that did not stick to the calimari... It was a little heavy in the tummy. I got a meatball sub for an entree, and my wife had penne pasta with meatballs... The meatballs were excellent, tasty, and moist. The red sauce is good and does not taste burnt as some others have said. I'll be back as there are other things that I would like to try. The view is excellent. read more
