We were seated and given menus but no utensils. We ordered water and coffee for both of us the water came promptly. Coffee a bit later. Still no napkins or utensils We ordered two salad bars, a sampler appetizer and a Hickory Salmon. We went to the salad bar and it was sparsely stocked and not very clean. Returning to the table, we still had no utensils. I waited about 5 minutes and went to the front and asked for them. 10 minutes later we got them. The food arrived a little bit later. The sampler was poorly prepared. The cheese sticks looked like breaded string cheese, the chocked was overcooked. My Hicory Salmon was way overcooked and hard. The rice pilaf was cold and full of clumps of rice. The zucchini was not young tender squash but older fruit that had started to get tough. It was burnt on one side and barely browned on the other. We had to ask for refills on coffee We were not asked about dessert. I asked for a check. It took 5 minutes to arrive. I paid for it with a credit card and asked for a receipt and was told she couldn't give me one. We left without being thanked for visiting. We waited to see if anyone was going to restock but after 15 minutes decided to order off the menu (the salad bar was never replenished the entire hour we were there-we were in the bar so had a view). Our biggest complaint was being seated in the bar area that evidently doubles as the staff lounge. There were 4 or 5 employees milling about the entire time, watching tv, laughing & joking, eating and shouting to other staff in the kitchen. An employee even parked their child at the end of the bar after school. directly across from us (where she repeatedly shouted questions to her mother, even while serving on the dining room floor). Isn't that more than inappropriate?? 2 staffers leaned against the back of our booth & discussed weekend plans and seemed to have no concept that this might not be an appropriate place to congregate (but if all your other co-workers are doing it...). Aside from that the back of the bar is full of cardboard boxes & to-go containers so that's your view if you sit there... The manager was in the bar when we arrived and he was no better, talking really loudly about some sporting event to other staffers for quite a while so there obviously isn't good leadership in place. We waited over 30 minutes for 2 burgers with only 10 other patrons in the entire restaurant & then the food was lackluster. Due to the noise of the kitchen we were privy to updates on other orders that had 'fallen apart' and had to be re-fired. It's a meaty menu, but you can have all the salad bar you'd like and a gooey dessert (or a side of mashed taters). It's a chain restaurant, which we don't go to often, but it is one of the few places I know of where you can go for just soup and a salad bar. Our waitress was courteous, prompt and accurate. We had the spinach artichoke dip to share and we both got the salad bar. The salad bar was well stocked and everything was fresh.
