My son has been skating since he was around 12-13 (he is 16 now) and this place is by far had been the most helpful and honest place we have been to (and we have seen them ALL). I've only been in twice. I really want to like this shop. The exterior looks so warm and inviting; unfortunately, it is small, expensive and sterile. My most recent visit was with full intention to buy a wetsuit, but the clerks made no effort to help me. All I could get were a few annoyed looks. I realize that many surfers can be laid back, but in this economy, you really need to make an effort. read more

Proof Lab has it all! I was surprised to find DaFin swimfins in stock, with a price that was below the online price. The employees are very helpful - downright friendly, if you like, or they will leave you alone to browse the incredible array of merchandise. They buy, sell and fix and rent surfboards and wetsuits. The selection of clothes and shoes is tasteful and impressive.Inside skate park and skateboards unlimited. I would reccomend this as the best surfshop in the Bay area, hands down. read more

Born and raised in MV, let just say at 52, I've seen the location evolve. Don't just go to the shop that literally sits on the hub. Next door towards the city is what feels like a totally different destination. I think of the one at the stoplight as a "fancy store". The stuff in the surf shop out back? Much more accessible price-point wise. Both doors have great and tasty stuff, though, so experience both and decide for yourself. Expanded store is great. Wife loves the high quality hip clothes in the old store Patagonia etc while next door in the back is a more stocked but typical surf shop with extras like skate store with ramp a rental lesson program and most major surf lines. These folks have a huge, no, enormous selection of boards, suits and most every piece of gear. I have been outfitting my family for the beach here for the past five years. The staff helps us with every little question. When my kids get bored of me perusing around, they walk into the back and watch the skaters on the halfpipe. And now my wife gets coffee at the new cafe in front. Conveniently located because at the end of a day when I return anything I've rented, I pick up beer or wine at the store next door. read more

This shop is great. It is the best surf shop I've been to in Nor Cal and beats most small So Cal shops. What I love about this shop most is the lack of ego from the staff when it comes to helping out customers (in this case me). I'm not the most talented of surfers, but Nate (the owner) and his staff were not pushy at all when it came to selling me gear or a board. In fact they sent me away to work on some fundamentals when I was very willing TO buy. This is a shop you can trust to take care of you and that has your best interest in mind. Bad surf shop. why? overpriced: I was a total begginer so i whent to my local shop, they showed me the quicksilver syncro wetsuit. the price was 230$. I whent to other shops and bought the exact same wetsuit for 80$ look at the boards, 500 bucks for a new one at least! the used ones are 250 for one in good shape! rip off, i whent to santa cruz and saw a bunch for less than 150 in better shape. bad custumer service: I just got my board repaired there. Well i call and they say, your board will be ready friday. Great! I go back friday and then. - umm we didnt actually start to work on it *guy asks shaper if he can finish it by 7* *answeres yes* so i come back saturday morning, ready to go surfing with friends - no its not finished - what???? i payed 40$ for a minor ding repair on my nose and they tell me it will be finished and it is not! 40$ is much too expensive. One good thing: the rentals are cheap, thats it. read more

I'm so glad I finally ventured into Proof Lab. Took me long enough -- as I work next door and I'm pretty sure we share a wall with them! I had always assumed the store ONLY had surf gear, but they have a fabulous collection of seasonal clothing, which, in December, means jackets, jackets, and more jackets. Their selection was perfectly concise, so instead of sifting through crap coats, all I had to do was pick out which one was perfect. The sales dude was also really nice and helpful. ;) read more

I dropped into Proof Lab at the end of a weekend excursion to check out surf breaks and shops. I'd been looking to buy a board, but had no intention of buying a board that day. Indeed, I'd left my carrier at home. Anthony was super helpful and spent a lot of time talking with me what I might want in a good all-around board. He picked out one that I might not have considered at first, but after I looked at the specs I thought it was a great board for me. The price was good, too, I thought. I walked out of the store less $600 for a new board (Big Bully by Strive), fins, leash, wax, and board bag. The used boards I was looking at on Craigslist were $400-$500, and I'm sure the service from random Craigslist guy wouldn't be as good. Yesterday I took my new board down to Lindamar for some early spring surf. It rocked, and I had a great time. Thanks guys! read more

By far the best surf shop in the North Bay. If you need new gear or just some sound advice look no further. The guys here know their craft and have a deep appreciation for costumer service. The best way I can describe it is true honesty. Nate asked that I be honest with myself and my skill level so he could give me the best advise possible. In the end I ended up buying an wetsuit that fits perfect and renting a board to try out. Nate spent a lot of time and patients with me trying on different wet suits. And he gave me the best advise by having me rent before I buy. He just gets it. I will end up buying allot more from Proof Lab in the future. Because I trust them. My wife and I needed lightweight wetsuits for our winter trip to Florida. Could not have picked a better place to shop for one. There were many to pick from and the salesman was very helpful at guiding us. Every staff person we encountered was courteous and welcoming. Turns out our suits were perfect for the water temperature in Fort Lauderdale in late fall. They also have a nice selection of clothing for men and women. I highly recommend this business. read more

Tried to get a refund with my receipt and was in the 14 day purchase window, but PoS clerk and a manager refused to process a refund on my credit card because it was a gift receipt. They demanded I call the person who gave me the gift and ask for her credit card number over the phone in order to refund the money on her card. WTF?!? I then said a cash refund would be fine if they wouldn't credit my credit card number. They again said no to this request, even though the receipt clearly states, "returns for CASH can be made within 14 days...." Apparently, NOT! This should not be so hard people. What an awful experience. Treated me with contempt for asking for a refund per the rules on the gift receipt. Avoid, especially if you are giving gifts and or want to return anything at their stores. read more

Came in to get: - a surfboard cover - car rack - some sets of fins - some solarez - wall mount - a leash - lots of waxes - maybe a wetsuit. Came out with: - some waxes. The good: - one of the employees was super nice and showed me where each item was. - the shop is pretty damn big; - really easy to find and park. The bad: - most of the employees couldn't care less; - diversity wasn't as good as I'd expect for a store that size. There was a lot of clothing, but their fins selection, for instance, was somewhat limited. It really depends on the product, but most of the ones I was looking for were not there. - stuff is at least 20-30% more expensive than what I ended up paying for elsewhere. I'd go back if I were in the area (without the possibility of driving any further) and in a hurry to get something. Otherwise, I'd just go online. read more
