They have a spot for kayaks where you just climb and in and they help push you in the water and bring you back in as well. Also they have free to use lockers, I think you might have to bring your own lock. They also have cubbies to leave stuff where staff is helping you take off with kayaks so I left my shoes there. The only barrier to me going more is that it is so expensive for one lesson (over $300). The instructor explained the super high cost of the foil itself, so I understand the need to increase the lesson price. I would love to do this more regularly, but cannot for this reason. I decided to splurge on the first lesson and was gifted the second lesson. We put in at Crane Cove Park. I have been there many times but never swam in the water. I was outfitted with a wetsuit, helmet, and booties. I never felt cold while in the water. During my first lesson, they connected this radio to the helmet so I could speak to the instructor while out. It was super helpful because he could give me real-time feedback. In my second lesson, they did not have radios, so it was harder to communicate during the lesson. It really is so fun to foil, and I highly recommend it to anyone who might want to give it a try. If you wanted to feel comfortable doing it, unless you regularly surge/skateboard, it would probably take 3-5 lessons before you are zooming around standing completely, so definitely factor that in when it comes to cost.

We've been talking about trying out some kayaks on the Petaluma river for a while and we finally…read moredecided to do it. What a great experience! With six of us (including three kids and a dog), we needed two tandem and two single kayaks. The guys at Petaluma Paddle were great. On the phone, Drew helped me figure out what we needed - at the river, Chad was super helpful and got us going quickly. We were in our way. About 40 minutes later we made it to the turning basin where we docked and then walked into town for lunch. The timing was perfect, left at around noon as the tide took us up the river and on the way back the Petaluma wind was at our back. Glad we finally made it out, was great to see Petaluma from the river. Will definitely be back!!

We decided it was going to be Paddle Boarding. I called Petaluma Stand Up Paddle earlier in the week to get the low down. Jessica filled me in on how things operate. Today, I got the pleasure of meeting Jessica and Drew the owner. They got us all set up and have us a tutorial for us newbs. We rented our boards for $20/hr Or $65/day. They offer downwind paddles and other guided tours in their 2 other locations. Paddle Boarding seemed very novice. Anyone can do it. And you should do it especially if you're looking for a good core and upper body workout. You can paddle into Petaluma and have some lunch and paddle back. We did paddle twards town but never made it all the way. I think they said it was about a mile ? Along our paddle, we saw Blue Herons and Egrets hunting for their lunch. We watched as they caught and ate the fish. While we paddled, a parade of ducks joined us in the paddle. There were so many birds everywhere. We also saw jellyfish in the river. That was unexpected and neat to see. On the way back, the Smart train passed right in front of us. The passengers on the train waved as we waived back. Bill was waiting patiently and was incredibly gracious. He took my wife and I out for a 2 1/2 hour SUP tour of the Russian River, providing tips and guidance along the way. I'm thankful that I came across Rubicon as I now feel that I have both a strong comfort with paddle boarding and better a sense of the Russian River and where we might go paddle boarding in the future. Bill has a great wealth of knowledge and we appreciated his casual style. It's worth noting that Rubicon's rates are incredibly low, particularly given the personalized attention you get on these tours. Looking forward to coming back.
