I love all the amazing plant options in Sacramento, Propagate is such a gem. They offer a great variety of plants and plant services, and they host local events where they partner up with other businesses. On my latest visit I was there for a candle making class with Black Lily Naturals in Propagate's large event space. The whole building is beautiful, with stained glass windows, brick walls, and beautiful plants everywhere. They offer services like repotting and soil refreshing, and their staff is very friendly. The event space is large and lit well and the candle making class has about twenty five people where we were all comfortably able to sit at tables and enjoy the activity. They offer the space as a venue for private events, parties and weddings as well. Parking in the area is street parking, and you'll want to keep an eye on signage for parkmobile info or other parking info so you don't get a ticket. I'm excited to head back soon! read more

My husband was looking for a venue for a celebration of life for his mother and came across Propagate! I cannot say enough good things about this venue and Brian for the wonderful Celebration of Life we had there. The venue is darling filled with beautiful plants (it is a plant shop too!) and Brian was amazing helping us to plan everything. He made sure everything was set up in the best way and worked with our caterers seamlessly. The venue is comfortable and cozy and worked wonderfully for our purpose. We don't live in Sacramento, but if I did I would use this venue for so many other types of celebrations. Thank you Brian and staff at Propagate for everything. This is the cutest little nursery I've been to and wish I had taken some photos of the shop! I was Impressed with the selection of plants and the humongous moss pole they made out of the stores pillar with their shop's beautiful Thai Constellation(not for sale) attached. I am new to taking care of plants, so I was happy extremely happy to meet Coal, who was super knowledgeable and passionate about plants. Choosing Propagate as our wedding venue was the easiest decision we made (my fiance proposed here earlier in the year so it already held such a special place in our hearts). We knew we were in good hands with the team, and somehow, Propagate still exceeded every single expectation. Through the entire planning process, Bryan and the team made us feel supported, seen, and celebrated. We are so impressed by the attention to detail, the clear and thorough communication, and the genuine care. Propagate pulls off SO many events with such grace and organization, and somehow go above and beyond for each and every one. Not once did we feel like "just another couple" or "just another Saturday event". Every interaction felt personal, intentional, and full of heart and our wedding day was truly the most beautiful day (both emotionally AND aesthetically) of our lives. With a venue so beautiful, so little is needed as far as decorations which is a huge win. The team was so also open and accommodating to everything we did end up bringing in and making it work. To walk away from our wedding with a deepened sense of community feels like the biggest win ever. We will forever sing praises to Propagate and the team here. And we look forward to being able to attend and participate in more of the awesome events hosted here now that the wedding planning has concluded. Plant lover's heaven! This is such a beautiful plant shop. The aesthetic is so fun and interesting, and of course there are so many plants! Their plants are beautiful. They have everything from 2inch pots up to full grown monsteras. The staff is super knowledgeable and helpful. Got some really great tips from Amanda while we were there. They also have a great little potting station where you can pick out a plant, soil and pot. The staff will guide you through it if you need help. There are all sorts of accessories for your houseplants available as well such as watering cans, aprons, hand shovels and more to help you keep your plants happy! Propagate also offers their space for event rentals which is really unique. I've never attended an event there but it would be very cool venue for a cocktail party, bridal shower or more. read more

Propagate is my go-to plant shop! Every time we stop by, we always feel welcomed. The staff are incredibly approachable and knowledgeable. I always feel comfortable asking any and all questions about my little plant babies. Propagate has a nice selection of plants to choose from, including nice pots, covers, and planting accessories. They have helped me replant two plants so far and it was a reasonable price (you pay for the soil and the green planter pots are free if they're used). I paid about $2 for a smaller plant to be replanted and $9 for a medium sized one. I highly recommend stopping by for a great experience! read more

I am in the process of redoing my home office and have a macrame plant hanging wall. Looking on my Yelp app, I thought I would check this place out while I was exploring midtown. Propagate is a very cool plant shop that sells indoor plants and outdoor plants. Nice selection but prepared to pay for it! I was going to buy a tiny 2" plant and it was $14, I just couldn't bring myself to do it. They normally go for about $8 each. I did buy a small fern and another one (forgot the name). They are very happily living with me now. Masks are required (as they should be of this writing - hello delta variant) and the service is helpful. I could see how people could get addicted to plant life - plants are peaceful, keep you company and give you oxygen! I would recommend stopping by, but be prepared to spend some $$$ for the experience. read more

I've been visiting this store for almost two years now and every plant that I have bought from this store is thriving in my home. Today, I took my Hawaiian pothos in to be repotted and staked up. I knew going into this that it was not ideally done. I received this plant as a gift and the gifter had placed a styrofoam pole to prop it up. Kaden and Cypress (sorry if I misspelled your names) took their time and communicated with me the entire time. My friend bought me a plant a few months ago and I managed to keep it alive, so I'm looking for another plant to add to my collection. I saw that Propagate opened and I wanted to support small business. Plus, I wanted to take a few picture for Instagram. I know, I'm awful. I read a review earlier that the staff person totally ignored them while they were in the store so when I went in I went in with that thought in the back of my head. But I was never acknowledged when I went in either. There was one staff person working there when I went in and there were two other people in there while I was in there. I didn't get any sort of acknowledgement when I walked in, not even "welcome", "hi", or "I'll be with you in a minute". I was there for a good five minutes and it's not like they didn't see me - it's not a huge store. I genuinely had questions and went in with the intention of purchasing a plant. I left empty handed and disappointed with the lack of customer service. They have a good selection I guess. I'm new to the plant game so I don't know much. They can drill a hole in a pot if you need it for $2 and they also have dirt/moss you can purchase by the scoop if you need a little bit and don't want to buy a full bag which is cool. They have a planting bar where they will pot your plants for you. I was overwhelmed trying to decide what to buy because it was that good. I also discovered you can rent out the space for events - all the information is on their website. Plant paradise! The shop was aesthetically pleasing. Propagate has a great selection from the fiddle leaf trees to different types of pathos. I purchased the Calathea Makoyana. I noticed some reviews state the plants are overpriced. I wouldn't say that is the case. The 4inch Calathea Makoyana was $18; this is similar to other plant shops. I also purchased a planter for $22 and paid an extra $2 to have a drainage hole added to the plant. The representative at the store was very knowledgeable about the plants I purchased. He provided me more than the typical tips (high-indirect light with mist) when it came to my purchase. I also didn't know about the drainage hole option, which was an absolute need. The planter is high-quality, and it was cheaper than most comparable planters online. I also signed up for the reward system. I believe once you spend a certain amount, you will get 20% off an item. When you purchase plants regularly, this can be a pretty awesome deal! The only criticism I can provide is the store's section where the large plants are (in the main room). I wish the area were more organized to get close to check the plant's health and see the price tag. I had no intention of purchasing a large plant, but it was impossible to see the large plants' price when I would have to move 4-5 plants in the process. It would also be great if the plant's name were added to the price tag--just a suggestion. read more

The workers at propagate are so helpful! I have now brought in 3 of my plants that needed some love and they helped diagnose them and repot them. And it was all free besides the supplies they used in store, like soil and a plastic nursery pot which was never more than $10. They also helped make a drainage hole for a little pot I brought in and only charged me $2. Would 100% recommend bringing your plants here. Came here wanting a hanging plant for my bathroom. The gentleman who helped was so nice and willing to help, climbing up and down the ladder multiple times for me so I could get up close looks on the pothos before I decided which one to take home. I ended up with the perfect pothos and it's still doing well 2 months later! The store is super cute and has cards and other supplies too. From what I was able to see it seems like if you're really into plants and nurseries, this is an ideal place to buy them. Even though it's located in downtown Sacramento the vibe doesn't make you feel like you're in a traditional store. The nursery is relatively small with a large variety of plants that are inexpensive. There's also a dedicated parking lot on the side of the store in case you're unable to find parking on the street. I wanted to be a plant parent so bad, and while I knew that Propagate was on the pricey side, I knew I got what I paid for when I bought my first plant here. I didn't even know about this place -- my husband and I discovered it while taking our dog out for a walk. When the staff saw our dog, she immediately invited us in, saying that they were dog-friendly and gave my dog a treat. That's always appreciated! She offered to help us out, but we said we were just browsing. The place itself is such a vibe. They have a huge space, and all the walls, shelves, racks, stands, are filled with rows and rows of plants. They had cute pots and a soil bar too. I had such a hard time deciding which to get, but when my husband and I laid eyes on a healthy-looking monstera, it was love at first sight. I've never seen a more perfect-looking monstera! We bought a small aglaonema as well. The person who checked us out gave us some care tips before sending us our merry way. It's been three weeks, and both plants are thriving. I like that they have a plant doctor there too! I feel like I'll take advantage of what when it's repotting time. All in all, I spent a little more, but I feel great supporting a local business! read more

Such a cute & "instagram worthy" shop! They had an amazing selection of houseplants (a few rare ones too!) but plants prices were a bit on the higher end ($8 for a 2" baby plant, yikes!) but from the looks of their plants they seem to be in great (if not amazing) shape! They pretty much had all the "in" plants that you see on social media. I like that they offer pot drain hole drilling for $2/pot and sell moss and dirt by the scoop - but I found out through social media days later and wasn't offered or mentioned of this when I visited. They also hold workshops & dinners there that they advertise on their Instagram site that you can sign up for! Could definitely be a cute date night with your S.O. or even your houseplant bestie! Hoping to attend one of their events soon. I'd give this place 5 stars but because of the prices were a bit on the expensive side (only because I know other local nurseries provide the same plants for HALF the costs) and was a bit turned off that I wasn't greeted or even acknowledged whatsoever when walking in or browsing through the store. A the start of the pandemic I had a virtual call with the owner of this shop. My goal was to get some plant friends. We did a tour of my home and she suggested plants that would work. I selected a few and went to pick them up curbside. Those plants have brought me energy and calmness throughout the pandemic and I have added so. many. more. The staff are always available to answer questions I have and now that we can shop in person their store is exquisite. The historic shop has been transformed beautifully, from the stain glass windows to the hand lettering of their golden logo on the front window, to the tall ceilings lined with plants. Propagate is a gorgeous little plant shop and is ideal for a shopping trip you plan on heavily Instagramming. The plants are showcased beautifully and they do occasionally get rare items in that are exciting for us plant enthusiasts. Three stars because most of the items are incredibly overpriced. They carry houseplants found at other local places (Ex. Green Acres) and yet the tags are almost always $20-80 higher. To me, that's a pretty insane markup...especially on items like super common varieties of philodendrons and pothos. I love to support small businesses and try to shop local whenever possible, but this spot is my go-to only when I know they've got something extremely rare coming in. read more

I have been here several times since their grand opening, and honestly their staff attitude is the one thing that prevents me from wanting to come back. The only reason that I do is because I live in the Handle District and this is the closest plant shop. As other reviewers have pointed out, the staff are not very attentive, and require lots of prompting, even when you are the sole shopper in the store. The associates here are definitely very knowledgeable, there is no doubt about that. But I find that they are also very snooty and condescending to the common plant-naive shopper (which, let's be honest, most of us are!). A couple times I have just left empty handed because the store associate was so condescending about my questions. I also saw in other reviews that customers have had success communicating w/ the store via social media, but that has not been the case for me. My messages on Instagram w/ genuine questions have been left unanswered. Overall, my interactions here have been on the negative side, and I would not recommend to others... especially at these prices. read more

A few stars off because the staff people don't seem to pay attention too much when customers roll in. Mind you, we were the only people in the store at that point as well, when we entered, we were not greeted either. I am so happy that I was referred to this place. I am brand new to being a plant mom, and have purchased two of my plants at two other very popular nursery's... and let me just say that Propagate was BY FAR the best experience I had. I'm sad to say, I don't remember her name... but this woman educated me on care, soil texture, growth, why they grow a certain way, light, etc. DID SO FLAWLESSLY. She had kept it so real with me, as to why I shouldn't purchase certain plants due to my apartment, and gave me the sad news that the plants I had were in fact NOT lowlight plants... which the other nurseries told me they were.... rather than make me feel like I and the Swiss cheese and monstera were doomed, she gave me the best advice on how I can keep it alive and happy. This woman spent so much time with me to educate me... if it weren't for closing time, I can almost guarantee she would sit there and continue to comfort and answer all of my questions and concerns. I ended up purchasing a ZZ plant as recommended for my little home with lowlight. And she's beautiful. I love you guys and will be back on Saturday for the event that this woman encouraged me to come to! read more
