First, let me say I've been buying custom clothing for over 20 years. I have worked with many small bespoke tailors, and I've had really mixed experiences over the years. I finally found my go to provider for my clothing. it's a cross between your bespoke tailor say in New York City with a Nordstrom online website. My size is usually a challenge to find off the rack. longer arms broader shoulders, longer inseam and Proper Cloth nails it. a bit of tweaking but got my size dialed in and I buy with confidence. I have had only one item that didn't fit right and they remade it for me with no hassle what so ever. Service is top-notch, friendly, professional, wanting to please and make sure you're satisfied is their primary concern! You will not go wrong! if you haven't tried them just do it! If you're looking to buy for your husband, boyfriend, family member you will not regret it. You get such great value and the quality of the items that you purchase are terrific. After buying PC shirts online a few years ago I decided to try their custom suit service and I'm really enjoying the experience so far. The option to combine a technically advanced tailoring service with the hands-on experience of an in-person fitting and consultation at their 5th Ave showroom offers outstanding value. The range of fabrics on offer could have been wider but I'm very happy with the light Italian wool number that I selected and I expect it to be a classic go-to in my wardrobe for years to come. The first cut shipped in 2 weeks and I'm due for a second fitting which I expect to sort out several minor issues. Impressed that PC offer a completely remote solution but IMO the fitting is an enjoyable experience that's worth making the time for. First truly custom-tailored clothing option available online for my fiancé, who's 245 Lbs at 6'6" tall with an athletic build, and who literally doesn't fit into the "big" category that B&T shops cater to. It was impossible to find him quality, non-boxy shirts off the rack before Proper Cloth. I get him all his button-ups, polos and trousers here now, and he feels so much more comfortable being able to fully outstretch his arms and bend over without half his belly or entire back exposing. Tip: break out that tailor's tape from your sewing kit and do a little bit of research on what points to start and how to properly take measurements. They'll remake each piece once so you can get the fit right, though, and once you've nailed it, you can save custom-built sizing. One thing I wish Proper Cloth had more of is plain tshirts with pocket options as we're still always on the hunt for LTs with tight necks (he hates the sloppy, "blown out" neckline). read more

I write this with a heavy heart because all of the sales reps I've dealt with at the Proper Cloth NYC locations are incredibly professional and pleasant. The locations themselves are clean and spacious as well. Unfortunately it's the product that's the problem. Having gotten bespoke clothing around the world I was eager to try PC because the price point is decent (for an American company) and I had a friend who got his suits made by them. The clothes are made in South Asia and take a lot of time to get to you after ordering; as much as a month. Some of this is supply chain but it basically just takes that long for even a couple of shirts and a suit. Then the fabrics themselves--some nice, some just decent, but all causing different fits. This is to be at least somewhat expected, but I have one shirt that's too big and one that is way to tight, both presumably made with the same measurements. (Their solution to bad fits on the website is to recommend that you go to a tailor...) A couple of my suit orders were actually submitted with the wrong measurements in the jackets as well. Human error, but when your job is to take measurements and enter them into the computer (or read them off of one) that's not a great thing. Then one waits another month for the item to be replaced. Tl;dr: great people, good website, very inconsistent fabrics, measurements, and attention to detail. If the idea is to be able to order bespoke clothing with no fuss, this isn't happening, and the product isn't affordable enough to justify the oversight. read more

I've now ordered two dress shirts from PC. Both arrived exactly one week to the day of ordering! When I received the first shirt, I needed to tweak the neck size and midsection width. Did that online, sent the shirt back, and the second one was perfect. On the second shirt, which I received just yesterday, I need to tweak the cuff width. Will do that online, send the shirt back, and I'm sure the re-made shirt will be perfect! A great website: you can adjust your own saved sizes to get the perfect fit. I visited the Proper Cloth studio in midtown after reading about it being the sweet spot on Reddit for finding a tailored shirt at a great value for the quality. The experience and customer service I received were both exceptional! I worked with Andrew and I cannot recommend Proper Cloth and him personally enough!! After making an appointment online, I visited their location in midtown which does not have an actual storefront on the street of 5th avenue. You'll go into a generic lobby with the address indicated outside and a front desk person directed me to an elevator and scanned his badge to send me up to Proper Cloth. Once we arrived on the 9th floor (I think) the Proper Cloth experience really kicked off. I was greeted at the front desk and my appointment was found. After sitting for a couple minutes Andrew intro'd himself and we immediately got started! He asked me what sort of event I needed a shirt for and what my thoughts were. After taking my measurements and asking about my style preferences, he gave me a shirt to try on to get a better feel for the sizing/tailoring. Since he had a similar body frame and style, I took a lot of his recommendations on what makes a shirt best fit him. Measuring and shirt fitting took a total of 12 minutes, and I learned a good amount about what makes shirts fit the way they do. Overall the experience was very informative! Lastly he walked me through the material booklets to pick a fabric. He did not try to upsell anything, he let me know what he would choose based on the event and the suit I was wearing. We decided on a fabric at a middle price point and then he let me know what timing would be on the delivery and how to make sure the shirt is set for the big day! I will be sure to go to Andrew and Proper Cloth again for any shirting needs that crop up in the future! The whole experience and ordering took 30-40 minutes and that included a full measuring which I likely won't ever have to do again cause they store the measurements to my account. If you are on the fence with where you should go to get a quality shirt and an efficient and informative experience at a fair cost, definitely give Proper Cloth a try! read more
