I ordered the chicken sandwich and a cup of bone broth while I was waiting. The broth was delicious and so was the freshly made chicken sandwich. The menu also offers "fake" chicken (tofu) and a rare gluten-free fried chicken option, both which are greatly appreciated and all-too-rare. Kudos! I love fried chicken and it's pretty hard to go wrong for me as I even like the kind you get at the grocery store, but this tempura like coating on the chicken did not hit the spot. Flavor was too bland and texture was weird. Not that seasoned crunch I am looking for when I want fried chicken. Can understand why fries get a thumbs down: potato quality is low so as soon as they start cooling, they get mealy and tasteless. Their secret sauce comes in a small ramekin with all orders unless specified. Tastes like a simple blend of mayo, the red hot sauce (a bottle on every table), and some herbs like chives and parsley. There's a nice little kick to it, but is mild enough for 90% of all diners. Comparison: Proposition Chicken versus Minnie Bell's/Emeryville Public Market. I'd give the edge to Minnie Bell's even though we don't think their chicken is as good as when they first opened. Which usually applies a discount. I was told she had to ask her supervisor (Ariel). Cashier came back and told me that I couldn't get the neighborhood discount. I was so excited to hear that they had open a location in Oakland. I think that the quality of the chicken is mediocre as are the sides; but my biggest challenge was the level of customer service. I remember the most frustrating interaction with the cashier. I think that customer service or what is considered to be customer service here is no longer in existence. After we got our food we sat by the window in the front of the restaurant. The noke is oddly shaped, but it works for 2 people. Don't know if it would work for 5, as there were 5 seats there. The server that brought us our food was so kind. Making sure we had everything we needed. Also, he showed a lot of pride on how pretty the dishes were prepared by quickly showing the cashier our food, and that made me really happy. The WINGS: Eat the wings right away, their best when their hot! Just my preference, but I would LOVE for them to take a torch to it after the sauce is put on, to caramelize the sauce a bit. I LOVE how they keep the the wing nub on wings. More crispy skin for me to eat. The SALAD: The salad was the highlight of this dish. I believe it was a Kale Ceaser.
