    Breakfast burrito and hot tea

This place has great ambiance and delicious food. I came here with some friends for breakfast after a night out, and the breakfast burrito hit the spot. Service was awesome, we got our food very quickly after ordering. They even have their own homemade hot sauce. Highly recommend!

Really good food. Prices are good. The lady who takes your order is super sweet. The parking can be hard since it is downtown but definitely worth it! Posting updated menus

We discovered this place in the middle of the pandemic and have tried to come here like twice a month. The shop is run by a cute couple who are welcoming and grateful for our patronage. We always get the veggie burger and cheeseburger with fries. The food is always made to order and very fresh when we walk it the 10 minutes or so back to our home. The veggie patty is organic and has things like kale, beans, nuts in it. The lady will tell you a memorized list of you ask about the ingredients. The cheeseburger at this place is good because it's a good size, cheap, and is cooked well done. We hope this place is able to survive the pandemic as they also cook breakfast foods here (their egg and cheese croissants are pretty good!).

Get the double cheeseburger w/ everything w/ xtra mayo - you will not regret it! Better than "speciality burgers" that cost 2x as much.

I love this place. Small gem of an old style cafe, cheap as heck and quality is on point!! I usually come here for breakfast or the double cheeseburger. I've eaten my fair share of burgers/smash burgers, and hands down this is the closest I've had to an Official Smash Burger that cost 2x as much. It's a basic cheeseburger but just so tasty!!

    Lunch menu, lots of options.

Prospect Park is definitely something of an outlier, as John S. describes. It's clearly an old diner, a remnant of a former downtown, located in that first wedge between Telegraph and Broadway, next to a bar and Soul Provisions, and the Both Sides Convenience. One of the few spots offering a dedicated breakfast, and solid lunch options, you know this place is hurting in a Covid world as offices are closed and regulars working from home. But for those of us who did live in the area, this isn't a place to avoid. For one thing, the prices are hard to beat. Not a lot of options offering a sandwich, fries, and a can soda for $10. Sure, most lunches in the area are only $15, but there is something nice about still getting a full lunch for $10. A second thing is the options, and I don't mean all day breakfast either (which is nice as breakfast is awesome). I mean they have some cold sandwiches, grilled sandwiches, and a ton from the grill like burgers, cheese steaks, and even teriyaki plates. The first time I went, I tried the salmon burger. It wasn't bad! Sure, there are a ton of burger and chicken sandwich options in the area, so I felt a salmon burger was different, and I could lie to myself it was healthier. On my most recent trip I was craving a non-fried chicken sandwich and remembered they do a chicken teriyaki sandwich combo. It was really good, I like teriyaki and mayo together, and the chicken was moist and cooked perfectly. I inhaled the thing and then went to town on my fries. Not quite steak fries, but a thicker cut and very tasty. On another recent trip (trying to support local!) I got to try their cheese steak. Wow! Not as big as some of the other cheese steaks in the area, but the flavor! Having been disappointed by Wonder Philly, getting a flavorful cheese steak was such a delight. I honestly am trying not to order it every time I arrive. So if looking for a no thrills, cheap, quick, and tasty option, can highly recommend Prospect Park. Also the couple who own/run it are such nice people and they could use the business right now. I'm definitely trying to frequent them more often during this, and will hit them up for breakfast and update the review.

Come for the food, not the decor.

Prospect Park is a bit of an enigma. Its sits in the high-rent district of Downtown Oakland, yet has the cheapest prices in Oakland. I'm not sure how they are able to offer their prices at the low price point that they do. The restaurant is family run, and has had the same owners for quite some time. This is not a date spot, and definitely not fancy. This restaurant is to be used for descent food at low prices. The portions are slightly smaller than what you would receive at one of the trendier places down the street, but still the value is there. The best deal in the house is the breakfast menu. You can get a breakfast of pancakes, eggs, bacon and coffee - out the door - for $12. One thing to note about this place if you are hunting for a brunch spot.... they are closed on Sundays.

    The inside.

Good Morning, afternoon, and eve for this spot!!!!! I have been coming here for a little over 10 years. Its family owned and operated. They are such friendly and gracious people. They remember you if you frequent the place, but give a big smile and a happy welcome to their establishment. The food is excellent and everything on the menu is "Deelish". I have introduced several people to this wonderful place over the years. The inside is nothing special, but comfortable, clean, and diner style. My favorite things to eat here is their hash brown special for breakfast, teriyaki beef, or the chicken burger and fries for lunch. If ever you get a chance give them a try people!!!!!

Great spot for a quick dinner at an affordable price!…read more My partner and I stopped by Arizmendi to check it out and get a daily special on a Sunday. In total, we paid $7.50, which was not bad at all! The space is spacious inside with an ample parking lot, but I would say this is more of a grab-and-go place; there is some outdoor seating. We got a pizza with tomato, olive oil, feta, and olives. The service was quick, straightforward, and we were able to get our slices within 5 minutes and it came out hot which was great! The pizza itself is on the thinner side and has a good ratio of dough to cheese. The crust/base was chewy and light and did in fact, taste healthy (in a good way)! Do I think this place is somewhere you must go to try out? Honestly, no, it is a good value pizza that tastes delicious, but I would say to only stop in if you are around the area.

After eyeing some sweet treats, I decided on grabbing a pecan roll and ordering a mocha to complement it. Staff were nice and moved swiftly in making my drink, which came out just 2 minutes after ordering. When I tried the roll, it was delicious! One of my biggest pet peeves is when restaurants reduce the guality or quantity of their meal to cut costs while charging premium prices. I will say I didn't mind paying a few dollars more for their subs in the past. I went there today for the first time in a couple of years, ordered a regular size basic ruben sandwich (no add-ons) and was ok paying nearly $18 dollars for just the sandwich until they handed it to me. what I got was a small 6" sub. When did their subs shrink?? in this economy we are all struggling. I get it, things cost more but Craves' owner is not doing his patrons a service by charging them premiums while cutting back on the meals. If you're ok paying that much for a shrunken sub, more power to you. I l, however, will not be going back there.

It's a cute delicatessen/restaurant. You order at the counter and they bring your food to you. Immediately the staff was so friendly and welcoming. The woman at the register was very nice and asked if we had any questions. My mom and I shared a pastrami sandwich, Brussels sprouts, fries, and slaw. It was reasonably priced for the Bay Area. When they brought the food to the table I was shocked. Everything looked amazing and very appetizing, and the portions were much bigger than expected. Before she brought the sandwich over, she asked if we were sharing it and was so nice to split it into 2 plates for us. That was very kind for her to do. Let's start with the French fries. Omg they were perfectly crisp but still fluffy on the inside. They had so much flavor probably because of the beef tallow and had just the right amount of salt on them. There was a side of mayonnaise with the fries, and it tasted homemade. I meant to ask them if it was. It was very good lol I couldn't get enough. The poppyseed slaw was very refreshing and it was tangy and sweet. We loved that the cabbage remained crispy and it was great for a warm day. The fried Brussels sprouts were full of flavor. They were a nice balance of sweet and salty. I loved the bacon on them. The hot pastrami sandwich definitely satisfied my pastrami craving! There was just the right ratio of meat-cheese-sauerkraut-mustard-dressing. The bread tasted freshly baked as well. It was full of flavor. And the side salad that came with the sandwich was excellent. We loved the tanginess of the dressing. We were shocked that there wasn't more people inside, but also for 2pm on a Monday, it probably was just an off hour. We had so many leftovers as we both don't eat very much, but lol as soon as I got home I started eating some more of the slaw and salad. Can't wait to eat the rest for lunch tomorrow. We are already planning on coming back to try the meatballs next time and definitely trying their Indian cuisine! I'll have to bring my husband here next. Thank you guys for an amazing lunch!

It's a warm, crunchy roll, the chopped steak and cheese are perfect, and there's a salad next to it so you can take a bite of that while you're waiting for the next bit of your sandwich to cool down. Do yourself a favor and order this in instead of carrying it out. The roll is warm and crunchy and I think too much time in a bag would make everything less delicious. (I'm sure it's still good, it's just *better* if you can eat it when it's fresh.) I swear one of these days I'll try something else on the menu.

Awhile back, I tried to bring as much business to Star Meat as I could because 1. it's a small business and 2. it's inside Star Grocery (which I LOVE, so it's convenient). When I would go there, there would often be 2 or 3 people behind the counter and oftentimes I would be the only customer. I felt like I had to stand there forever before anyone even acknowledged I existed. Each person would be busy doing something, but there was no "I'll be with you in 2 minutes." Finally, I went one day and there were 3 workers behind the counter chatting with each other. I was the only customer and was standing around 6 feet away from them, looking right at them. They went on with there conversation (not doing any other work) for a full 5 minutes. Finally I thought, "OK, they really don't seem to want my business, so I can go to any one of 4 other places and get what I want." That was a year or two ago. So, today I thought, why not give it another try, it's certainly convenient. Again, I'm the only customer at the counter. One guy is washing equipment and two guys are making sandwiches. I know that they know that I'm there, there are mirrors all along the back wall exactly for the purpose of seeing the customers. After around 4 minutes I think, who knows how long I'm going to be standing here. Maybe they have to make 20 sandwiches and I'll be here for a half hour. So, I left. I don't have anything like this experience at the 4 other meat counters I go to in the area. I'm totally fine waiting if I have some sense that I'm waiting for a purpose and that the worker will get to me as soon as they can. But at Star Meat, it feels like I'm more of an inconvenience than a customer. "Hi, I'll be with you as soon as I can," goes a long way.

This is the first place in the world that had me eating rye. I hate rye bread, and was worried because there are no substitutions, but the sandwiches here were so good and the bread didn't taste like the traditional prison food hard rye bread. You changed me Krispy Joe's, and had me eating stuff I never would have. Also, drinking stuff I never would have. I bought their chai and lemonade, both were 5 stars, and they offered me their pickle juice electrolyte drink to try. I was skeptical at first, but again they made me a believer. I hate pickle juice and pickle flavored anything in general. Yet, they converted me once again when they offered me a sample of their pickle-aid. It tasted like a mild tasting plain Gatorade. If I were still training for a marathon, I would totally buy this! Back to their amazing sandwiches. They are made with such care, dusting every sandwich that's made to order with their secret spices while toasting the meat and bread. The slaw was fresh and herbaceous. Again, made with care and craftsmanship. I am rooting for this business to expand and take over Ike's Sandwiches. I believe in you Krispy Joe's, you have my vote!
