Eh? My colleagues weren't fans and I think most of the feedback came from the lack of care and ingredients. I ordered the eggplant with cheese and marinara. The bread was mid, the eggplant was fine, but it lacked cheese and marinara. It was basically oil roasted eggplant on bread. A colleague shared the chicken caesar wrap was dry, lacked any dressing and no croutons, and so on. Overall, I feel like you could give it another try and roll the dice, but I'd expect pretty mid results. While not super expensive, I think there is room for opportunity. read more

It was my first time here; I went to grab a sandwich during the lunch rush. I didn't have to wait too long. I got the roasted eggplant on Dutch crunch with provolone cheese because it seemed like the most hearty vegetarian option. It's a solid sandwich; definitely get it with the marinara sauce. I wish it had a sprinkle of salt (I'll try it with a saltier cheese next time). I also tried a sample of their vegan garlicky white bean and spinach soup - hella good, very flavorful. Had jury duty downtown today. Looked for a walkable sandwich spot and The Lunch Box popped up. Got the Turkey Breast sandwich on sliced sourdough, toasted. And a bag of Voodoo chips. Omg I can not believe I have not reviewed this place yet. Ever since my orthodontic office moved just a cross the street. I find myself stopping in here to grab myself a sandwich for lunch before I head in to work. I have gotten so many different sandwiches combinations here I can't even remember all of them. My most resent favorite was the brisket sandwich. I was having a hard time one day deciding what I wanted. One of the regular guys that work the counter offered me a taste of the brisket meat as I was trying to make my decision. Well needless to say my decision was make and got that brisket sandwich one I think sliced sourdough bread. Even with all the topping and the sauce from the meat my sandwich didn't get overly soggy. They are very very nice. But what an insane rip off. I got the large spinach salad for $13.99. It has exactly 11 kidney beans, 4 cherry tomatoes and 3 half moon cucumber slices. I thought more might be buried, but what is in the picture is all there is!And it wasn't even densely packed with spinach. You walk in and you just see a counter to order at, fridges with hella drinks, and racks with chips to choose from. Behind the counter is the flattop in which the cooks are cheffing up everything to order. This place is always busy during lunch time, but the wait is never too bad for your food. Your order gets taken quickly and you'll have your name called pretty fast. My go-to has always gotta be the hot pastrami. I love pastrami more than anything on a sandwich, and they do it just right here. The meat is thick cut and is so tender. You gotta try it. All sandwiches come with cheese, Cheese, Mayo, Mustard, Lettuce Tomatoes, Red Onions, and a choice of tapenade. I always go for havarti and the garlic olive tapenade. BOMBBBBB. You can also add a variety of other toppings and condiments. If I feel it, I add horseradish or hot sauce to my sandwich! The menu overall is pretty big. This place is exactly the spot you want to come to for lunch. The owner is super nice and you can tell it's got regulars with how he greets everyone in the door. The menu itself is quite vast but he does a good job walking folks through it and running a tight ship. Sandwich itself was quite tasty. I went for the brisket which was juicy and tender. Certainly will fill you up as well. I would love to come back to this place to try it again next time I'm in town. It's a small spot so wouldn't plan on eating there but definitely good for takeout. read more

Employees took care of me and I appreciate it. My dinner planes got cancelled and I wanted to try something new. I ordered off Uber eats and they did not have a Rueben sandwich on the app. So after making a custom sandwich order, I said "if a Rueben is available I'd rather have that" they actually read the note and then delivered. Thank you very much. The food for my taste is just ok, probably 3 ish stars. But I gave an extra for the service. I ordered spaghetti and meatballs from a sandwich shop. We all know that was a mistake. So I'll just say don't do that The Rueben had really good tasting meat. Could have used more sauce and a harder toast on the bread. The rye wasn't real strong. Passable Mac salad was not my speed. Potato salad also not my speed. I wouldn't avoid the place, but I also wouldn't seek it out. I'm grateful for the great service. No jndoor seat Vast menu, so many options, order how you like it. but the brisket jumped out to me. The person who took my order seemed like she knew what was up. No nonsense, and I loved it. Wow! This place is so underrated -- we had lunch here and it was beyond fireeeeee! Both of us ordered the Pastrami Sandwich on their Soft French Rolls which came with Cheese, Mayo, Mustard, Lettuce, Tomatoes, Red Onions. OMG -- the sandwiches were out of this world. The bread was so fluffy and fresh, and the pastrami was perfected in a way that you just can't find around town anymore. Add some chips and a drink, and call it a day! I'm literally salivating just thinking about that lunch. I can't wait to visit DTO again because when I do -- this will be the stop I will be very intentional of visiting again. Support local y'all! Lunchbox is my go to place for lunch and can't say enough good things about it! I usually get the pastrami or roast turkey. Not only are the sandwiches good, but it's also affordable and fast. They have a wide variety of sandwiches on the menu. The owners and staff are always friendly and full of energy. This place is definitely a cornerstone of Oakland. The tuna melt here is pretty damn good. Every time I come the service is always quick and in order. I ordered a tuna melt on soft French bread, everything except onions. A side of chips always does the trick, so Lay's it was. Other times I've come I've had the bbq brisket, and honestly I don't remember the other. The bbq brisket was just okay to me. We got the bbq brisket on Dutch and a pastrami on Hard sourdough bread. I wasn't able to take a picture of the pastrami because my wife devoured ok the drive back, didn't even save me a bite! I have never written a review before, but I feel like I have to for this place. This was my first time coming and I was immediately greeted with a lot of hospitality. Theres a lot on the menu, but I ended up choosing the bbq brisket hot plate with caesar salad and the soup of the day, which was a tomato bisque. The food came out very fast and warm. I ordered two chicken Caesar salad wraps from The Lunch Box. These wraps were devastatingly dry. It was almost as if they'd run out of Caesar dressing and so could only apply a thimble full to each wrap.
